Instructions
This document contains basic product and configuration information that will enable you to configure your system via PC-/SystemArchitect.

Only these tools will ensure a fast and proper configuration of your PRIMERGY server or your complete PRIMERGY Rack system.

You can configure your individual PRIMERGY server in order to adjust your specific requirements.

The System configurator is divided into several chapters that are identical to the current price list and PC-/SystemArchitect.

Please follow the lines. If there is a junction, you can choose which way or component you would like to take. Go through the configurator by following the lines from the top to the bottom.

Memory

- The memory area consists of two memory boards, "Memory Board 1" and "Memory Board 2" . - "Memory Board 1" is alway configured as standard, "Memory Board 2" is an performance option. - There are 8 memory slots per memory board for max. 32GB Fully Buffered DIMM RAM available ( Fully Buffered DIMM FBD667 / PC5300F ) ( For explanation of following terms refer to section "Memory Configurations" ) - The memory area of one memory board is divided into 2 branches with 2 channels each and 4 slots per channel - The first slot of each channel belongs to memory bank 1, the second slot belongs to memory bank 2, the third slot belongs to memory bank 3 and the fourth slot belongs to memory bank 4. - Each slot can optionally be equipped with 512MB, 1GB, 2GB or 4GB FBDIMM modules No mix of modules within one memory branch allowed. - Memory upgrade is only possible per branch with modul pairs ( max. two pairs / branch) ( max. two pairs / branch)

- For the function Mem ory Mirroring " Mem ory B oard 2" is necessary . - On each m em ory board two identical m em ory m odule pairs regarding capacity are necessary in each branch of one m em ory bank.

The function Memory Mirroring can be configured per BIOS setup. For mirrored memory configurations the following items have to be considered: Capacity: Availability: 50% of the configured memory Maximum memory availability. Correction of double bit memory errors possible. After non-correctable errors or too many correctable errors the Mirror takes over immediately and the system remains online. Performance: Only 2-way interleave in mirror configurations possible therefore potentially not max. performance
- Function Hot Spare Mem ory . - If three or four banks of one branch are equipped with m em ory pairs, the third or fourth bank can be defined as hot spare m em ory bank. The capacity of the hot spare m em ory has to be equal or bigger than the capacity of the biggest capacity installed in the lower bank num bers.

The function Hot Spare Memory can be configured per BIOS setup. For Hot Spare Memory configurations the following items have to be considered: Capacity: Availability: 2/3 or 3/4 of the configured memory if the third or fourth bank is the hot spare bank and each bank is equipped with the same modul capacity. Less memory availability. Correction of single bit memory errors posssible. After non-correctable errors / too many correctable errors the system shuts down and during next reboot faulty memory becomes disabled. Performance: 4-way interleave possible in max. spare mode configuration with two memory boards. 4-way interleave increases system performance to maximum In general it is recommended to use identical capacities over the branches of bank 1 to bank 4 to ensure max. performance bandwidth.
