This condition can develop in 20 years or more from the onset of diabetes. How is Diabetic Nephropathy prevented? Maintain a normal level of glucose in the blood. Maintain a normal blood pressure along with an antihypertensive therapy at increased pressure above 40/90 mmHg. Maintain a low-protein diet. Maintain a low-carbohydrate diet. This is important to keep the cholesterol level (less than 5.2 mmol/1) and triglycerides level (1.7 mmol/1) within normal levels.
