Inergen Containers
Each container is provided with a specific charge of Inergen to a nominal pressure of 200 bar at 15oC. Containers are designed, manufactured and marked in accordance with EEC/84/525 and are pressure tested to 300 bar. Labels providing handling, maintenance and recharge instructions are fitted to all containers. Containers are coloured red to BS4800:04 E53 with a grey top dome to RAL 7031. . Release Head II
The release head II is the connecting component between the Inergen valve and the actuating devices (solenoid actuator, pneumatic actuator or local manual actuator). The release head contains a release pin which is pushed down by the actuating device. The release pin bursts the actuating disc inside the valve to cause operation. The pneumatic actuator is used as a releasing component in the twin release assembly and in systems using pilot container actuation. It is installed between the release head II and the solenoid actuator. The actuator requires a minimum pressure of 10 bar to cause operation. Solenoid Actuator - Standard

The solenoid actuator is used to electrically operate the container valve. The solenoid is operated at 24Vd.c. (power consumption - 15 Watts) and rated to IP65. It is fitted onto the Release Head II by means of a knurled swivel coupling which enables the unit to be positioned as preferred for electrical connection. The solenoid actuator is normally fitted to the container designated as the Master or in a twin release assembly configuration, the first two containers. The actuator is an electro-mechanical device which when energised causes the central pin to move downwards, to push the central pin of the Release Head II downwards which in turn punctures the burst disc in the valve. The power lead fitted with a DIN plug for connecting to the solenoid is not supplied with the solenoid actuator and is to be ordered separately (Product Code 304.001.001). Solenoid Actuator - Explosion Proof

This version of the solenoid actuator is used to electrically operate the container in the same way that the standard actuator does, but it is provided with protection to EEx me II T4, IP65. The solenoid is operated at 24Vd.c. (Power Consumption - 9 Watts) and is available in other voltages and/or types of current rating. It is fitted onto the release head II by means of a knurled swivel coupling which enables the unit to be positioned as preferred for electrical connection. The solenoid actuator is normally fitted to the container designated as the Master or in a twin release assembly configuration, the first two containers. Manual Release Actuator (Local)

The manual release actuator (local) is used to mechanically operate the system at the container location. Accidental operation is prevented by means of a steel safety pin. The steel safety pin must be removed to allow the use of the local manual actuator. After removing the steel safety pin, manual operation is caused by pushing the lever downwards. The unit is designed so that it may be fitted directly onto the release head II and be used in conjunction with a solenoid actuator, if required. Pushing the operating lever downwards causes the central pin to move downwards onto the central operating pin of the release head II. Twin Release Arrangement

The twin release arrangement is based on the combination of an electrical and pneumatic release for dual master container operation. Under normal operating conditions both valves will be actuated electrically. However, in the event of a condition arising where only one valve is electrically operated, then it will cause pneumatic operation of its twin. The pressure switch is mounted in the distribution pipework and may be used to provide an electrical indication of the release of Inergen or to perform ventilation shut-downs or other interlock functions. It is designed to be mounted downstream of the pressure reducing unit and must not be mounted before it. The pressure switch requires to be manually reset following operation. A minimum pressure of 3 bar is required to ensure satisfactory operation. Connections to the pressure switch are either 1/2 NPT (male) or 1/8 NPT (female). As an alternative to this switch and/or in applications where the pressure switch requires to be mounted in the high pressure part of the installation, pressure switch (Product Code - SL 93851) may be used. Pressure Switch (Automatic Reset)

The pressure switch is mounted in the distribution pipework and may be used to provide an electrical indication of the release of Inergen or to perform ventilation shut-downs or other interlock functions. The pressure switch may be mounted in the high pressure part of the installation. This switch does not have a manual reset button and will reset upon loss of pipework/manifold pressure. Container Pressure Indicator - Standard (DKE-4)

The standard container pressure indicator (DKE4) indicates the Inergen pressure inside the container. It is fitted to the pressure gauge adaptor of the container valve. The connection nut of the pressure indicator contains a pin which opens a seal on the pressure gauge adaptor when the pressure indicator is firmly attached to the valve. Fitting and removal of the pressure indicator can be carried out without loss of Inergen. When fitting it is only necessary for the connection nut to be hand tightened. Container Pressure Indicator - Supervised (KM-2)

The supervisory container pressure indicator (KM2) indicates the Inergen pressure inside the container and allows for a signal to be provided when the pressure falls below a set point. The set point is adjustable between 100 and 240 bar, and it is recommended that it is set at a pressure of 185 bar. It is fitted to the pressure gauge adaptor of the container valve. The connection nut contains a pin which opens a seal on the pressure gauge adaptor when the pressure indicator is firmly attached to the valve. Fitting and removal of the pressure indicator can be carried out without loss of Inergen. The set point can be adjusted by removing the front cover and moving the pointer to an alternative pressure. When fitting it is only necessary for the connection nut to be hand tightened. CAUTION: Over tightening may damage the O ring seal which will cause the joint to leak. 302.403.336 Manifolds are used on all multi-container arrangements and are designed to allow the installation of single, double or triple rows of containers into a single manifold. The manifolds are available in two lengths to suit a maximum of either six containers - 560mm, or nine containers 840mm. The manifolds have opposite handed threads at each end (right hand/left hand), so that they can be connected easily and safely in situ, using the standard high pressure fittings. NOTE: When the manifolds are used on a single row of containers a six port manifold will only suffice for two containers and the nine port for each set of three containers. On double rows, a six port manifold will be capable of handling up to four containers and a nine port manifold up to six containers. High Pressure Fittings

A number of high pressure fittings are available that have been specially designed to allow for their installation in the high pressure pipework between the manifold, the pressure reducing unit and distribution valves. The fittings are provided with left and/or right handed threads to allow their use in a number of positions in the pipework/manifold arrangement. The available fittings are based on multiples of a standard dimension of 280mm, which is the distance between container centres. All fittings are pressure tested to 320 bar. The 10mm discharge hose connects the container valve outlet to the check valve on the manifold and is sufficiently flexible to accommodate the small variations found in container height. Swivel female connections allow ease of installation in any orientation. The discharge hose is pressure tested to 480 bar. Actuation Line Check Valve

The check valve is used on the actuation lines on distribution valve systems. As a precaution it should be installed in duplicate in critical locations. An arrow on the body of the device identifies the required direction of the flow. The cracking pressure is approximately 0.03 bar and the device can accommodate a maximum working pressure of 406 bar. Actuation Line Vent Valve

The vent valve is used in the actuation line of systems where an unintentional build-up of pressure, perhaps through a leak, could be problematic. The device will automatically relieve pressure up to approximately 3 bar, but will seal to completely prevent loss of actuation pressure above 3 bar. The contained pressure may be released by pressing the knurled button on the top. The vent valve is fitted into a tee (P/C 300.291.937) in the actuation line using the 10mm x 1/4 stud coupling (P/C SL 93486) and a short length of 10mm tube (P/C 304.030.506). Total Flooding Nozzles

The total flooding nozzles are designed to uniformly distribute Inergen throughout the hazard area. All nozzles are specifically drilled to suit the individual design requirements. Each nozzle is permitted to cover an area up to 30 sq. metres at an enclosure height of equal to or greater than 0.5 metres and up to 20 sq. metres in an enclosure of height less than 0.5 metres. There is a maximum height restriction of 5 metres. Where the size of any hazard enclosure determines that one nozzle does not provide The Inergen bowl type nozzles allow the Inergen to be discharged more gently into the hazard area. All nozzles are specifically designed to suit the individual design requirements. Distribution Valves
The distribution valve is used in applications where multiple areas require to be protected from a single bank of containers. The valves are operated pneumatically by a pilot container (P/C SL 93462) or manually by use of the manual operating lever. The distribution valve requires a minimum pressure of 50 bar to satisfactorily operate it and the precise configuration of the actuation system is critical in ensuring that the system operates as intended. The actuation port is 1/4 NPT (fit adaptor P/C SL 93486 to allow connection to the actuation tubing). Breathers, required to be fitted to ensure complete operation of the valve and to prevent ingress of dirt are supplied with the valve. The valve is supplied with 50mm NPT connections as standard, but is available in other sizes to order. Pressure Relief Valve

The Inergen pressure relief valve is designed to automatically relieve excess pressure in the pipework system. A valve is normally fitted in all closed sections of pipework, ie. between the containers and stop valves, etc. It is set to open at approximately 250 bar. It is a requirement that the outlet from the valve is piped to atmosphere away from personnel. A manual by-pass valve must be incorporated into the pressure relief arrangements to allow for trapped Inergen to be safely vented to atmosphere. The manual by-pass valve is used to allow Inergen to be safely vented to atmosphere if it becomes trapped within a closed pipework section. The valve is available as standard in 15mm NPT. Pilot Container Release Solenoid

The pilot container release solenoid is used to electrically operate the pilot container. The solenoid is operated at 12Vd.c. (Current Consumption - 0.57A). It is fitted directly onto the top of the pilot container valve by means of a hexagonal swivel coupling which enables the unit to be positioned as preferred for electrical connection. NOTE: The central pin must be in the retracted position before the solenoid is fitted otherwise the pilot container valve will be operated and will discharge immediately. When utilising only one pilot container, an in-line resistor (P/C SL 73606) is required in the supervised release circuit. Pilot Container Manual/Pneumatic Actuator

The pilot container manual/pneumatic adaptor is used to operate the pilot container either manually or pneumatically. It is designed so that it may also be used in conjunction with the pilot container release solenoid in which case it is screwed onto the top of the solenoid actuator. Accidental manual release is prevented by means of a steel safety pin. The steel safety pin must be removed to allow the use of the actuator. When pneumatic operation is required a minimum pressure of 2.1 bar is provided to the pneumatic actuation port. (Connection to this port is 1/4 NPT). Odouriser 2000
The Odouriser 2000 is an optional device, designed to give a distinctive smell to the Inergen and is particularly useful in basements or low lying areas in the vicinity of the system or any place where Inergen could drift to following a discharge. Liquid citrus odour is contained in the body of the odouriser and is sealed in by a lead disc. Pressure of the discharging Inergen causes the disc to rupture and allows the liquid to escape and mix with the Inergen. The odouriser must be replaced after each operation of the system. FM200 contains no bromine or chlorine and therefore has zero Ozone Depleting Potential (ODP). The atmospheric lifetime of FM200 is between 31 and 42 years which along with its ODP presents a long term solution to fire protection requirements. FM200 has been found to be less toxic than Halon 1301, which makes it safe for use in the fully automatic mode in occupied areas. Typically FM200 requires a design concentration of 7.5%, which is well below the 9% No Observable Adverse Effect Level (NOAEL). The NOAEL for Halon 1301 is only 5% (the same as the design concentration).

FM200 Equipment & Components - Standard

FM200 (HFC 227ea) is known chemically as Heptafluoropropane. FM200 is a colourless gas which is liquified under pressure for storage. Like Halon 1301 it has a low toxicity level and is superpressurised with Nitrogen to 24.8bar (360psi). It rapidly extinguishes most commonly found fires through a combination of chemical and physical mechanisms.

The solenoid actuator is used to electrically operate the container valve and is operated at 24Vd.c. (Power Consumption - 4.8 Watts). It is fitted directly onto the top of the container valve by means of a knurled swivel coupling which enables the unit to be positioned as preferred for electrical connection. When fitting it is only necessary for the unit to be hand tight. The solenoid actuator is normally fitted to the container designated as the Master. The actuator is an electro-mechanical device which when energised causes the central pin to move downwards opening the schrader valve in the container valve. The central pin must be in the retracted position before the solenoid actuator is fitted, otherwise the container valve will be operated and the contents discharged. Solenoid Actuator - Flameproof

The Flameproof solenoid actuator is BASEEFA approved to Ex d IIB requirements and is operated at 24Vd.c. (Power Consumption - 11.2 Watts). The CENELEC/BASEEFA Approved Explosion proof version is available to order to meet EEx d IIC requirements. The solenoid actuator is fitted to a schrader assembly on the side of the valve body by means of a brass swivel nut. It is designed to be removable from the schrader assembly. As there will be pressure in the brass swivel nut, upon removal of the solenoid the pressure will be released. A pop will be heard at the time of removal. It is essential that the schrader assembly is not dislodged or removed as this will cause an immediate and potentially hazardous discharge of FM200. It is recommended that at the time of removal all slave containers are disconnected from the Master. NOTE: Earlier versions of this actuator were not designed to be removable from the container valve and no attempt must be made to do so whilst the container is pressurised, otherwise this will result in immediate and potentially hazardous discharge of FM200. Local Manual Actuator

The local manual actuator is used to mechanically operate the system at the container position. When fitting it is only necessary for the unit to be hand-tight. Accidental manual release is prevented by means of a steel safety pin. The steel safety pin must be removed to allow the use of the local manual actuator. After removing the safety pin, manual operation is caused by depressing the strike knob. Pneumatic Actuator
The pneumatic actuator is used where container operation is required by means of gas pressure from the system master container, remote manual release unit or from a pilot container. When fitting it is only necessary for the unit to be hand tight. The unit is designed so that it may be fitted directly onto the top of the container valve or be used in conjunction with a solenoid actuator, in which case it fits directly on top of the solenoid actuator. Union Adaptor
The union adaptor is used to enable pipework to be easily connected to and disconnected from the FM200 container valve outlet adaptor. It is available in two sizes, 25mm and 50mm. One end is provided with a parallel female thread to provide a compatible joint to the container outlet adaptor. The other end is provided with a female NPT thread to enable pipework to be connected. A swivel joint makes disconnecting containers from the pipework straightforward. It is recommended that the joint to the container valve adaptor is made using PTFE tape. The Remote Manual Actuator may be used to operate the FM200 container from a remote position using the T528 mechanical manual release unit which is connected to the remote manual actuator by wire rope run in conduit. A shear strap is fitted to help guard against accidental release. Operation is caused by moving the lever through 90o, which will break the shear strap. The steel safety pin will prevent operation and is to be removed upon commissioning of the system. A pneumatic actuation port is provided to allow the unit to double as a manual and pneumatic actuator. The unit is designed so that it may be fitted directly onto the top of the container valve or be used in conjunction with a solenoid actuator, in which case it fits directly on top of the solenoid actuator. When fitting it is only necessary for the swivel nut to be hand tightened. T528 Manual Release Unit

The T528 Manual Release Unit is used where remote mechanical manual release of the FM200 system is required. The unit comprises of a box with a hinged yellow lid which is held in the closed position by two frangible washers. Inside the unit is a red bar which is to be connected to a wire rope run through a system of conduit and corner pulleys to the Remote Manual Actuator. Operation of the FM200 system using the T528 is a two stage action. Firstly the hinged lid is pulled downwards towards the operator. This action will break the frangible washers and expose the red operating bar. System operation is caused by pulling hard on the red bar. System discharge will occur immediately.

Pressure Switch - Standard

The Pressure Switch is normally mounted on a connection in the pneumatic actuation tubing and may be used to provide an electrical indication of release of FM200 or to perform ventilation shutdowns or other interlock functions. The pressure switch requires to be manually reset following operation. A minimum pressure of 3 bar is required to ensure satisfactory operation. Pressure Switch - Flameproof

A BASEEFA Approved Supervisory Pressure Switch (P/C 305.205.004) is available to meet the Ex d IIB requirements. A CENELEC/BASEEFA Approved explosion proof version is available to order to meet EEx d IIC requirements. Both the Flameproof and Explosion proof versions are variations on the Flameproof and Explosion proof gas discharged pressure switches. It is recommended that the Flameproof and Explosion proof switches are wall mounted adjacent to the container. Connection to the switch is 1/4 NPT (female). To fit the Flameproof or Explosion proof switch requires connecting pneumatic actuation tubing between the supervisory pressure switch port on the valve and the supervisory pressure switch. This process involves removing the plug from the supervisory pressure switch port in the valve and quickly connecting the actuation tubing. Upon removal of the plug it is normal for a small quantity of gas to leak. It is critical that all connections are gas tight otherwise the container will gradually lose its charge. FM200 Nozzles - Engineered: Aluminium

The Discharge Nozzles are available in a 180o and 360o pattern and are designed to uniformly distribute FM200 throughout the hazard area. The 180o type has seven ports and the 360o type has eight ports. For Pre-Engineered systems the nozzles are available pre-drilled in three sizes. Engineered nozzles are available in seven sizes and are drilled with the specific design requirement. The Container Brackets are designed to securely fix a single container to a wall or supporting structure. The brackets are of a design that allows them to be wall mounted. Solenoid Actuator - Stackable (UL)

The solenoid actuator is used to electrically operate the container valve. The solenoid is operated at 24Vd.c. (Power Consumption - 4.8 Watts). It is fitted directly onto the top of the container valve by means of a knurled swivel coupling which enables the unit to be positioned as preferred for electrical connection. When fitting it is only necessary for the unit to be hand tight. The solenoid actuator is normally fitted to the container designated as the Master. The actuator is an electro-mechanical device which when energised causes the central pin to move downwards opening the schrader valve in the container valve. The central pin must be in the retracted position before the solenoid actuator is fitted, otherwise the container valve will be operated and the contents discharged. The power lead fitted with a DIN plug for connecting to the solenoid is to be ordered separately (P/C 304.001.001). Product Code 304.205.008 24V Solenoid actuator

Solenoid Actuator - Side Mounted (UL)

The solenoid actuator is fitted to a schrader assembly on the side of the valve body by means of a brass swivel nut. It is designed to be removable from the schrader assembly. As there will be pressure in the brass swivel nut, upon removal of the solenoid the pressure will be released. A pop will be heard at the time of removal. It is essential that the schrader assembly is not dislodged or removed as this will cause an immediate and potentially hazardous discharge of FM200. Local Manual Actuator

The local manual actuator is used to mechanically operate the system at the container position. When fitting it is only necessary for the unit to be hand-tight. Accidental manual release is prevented by means of a steel safety pin. The steel safety pin must be removed to allow the use of the local manual actuator. After removing the safety pin, manual operation is caused by depressing the strike knob. The pneumatic actuator is used where container operation is required by means of gas pressure from the system master container, remote manual release unit or from a pilot container. Supervisory Pressure Switch (UL)

The Supervisory Pressure Switch is an optional item that is Factory fitted at the time of order and is used to continuously monitor the container pressure. In the event of the container pressure falling below 18 bar the switch will operate to provide an electrical signal. Gas Released Pressure Switch (UL)

Local Manual/Pneumatic Actuator (Type D)

Accidental manual release is prevented by means of a steel safety pin. The steel safety pin must be removed to allow the use of the operating lever. After removing the safety pin manual operation is caused by moving the operating lever through 105o. A maximum force of approximately 3kgf is required to operate the actuator. Pneumatic operation is possible by means of actuation ports in the main body of the actuator. At normal storage conditions ie 20oC approximately 8.5 bar is required. Two ports are provided at 180o to each other. One port is used as an inlet port and the other as an outlet port. Interconnection between adjacent actuators is by means of 3/16 pilot hoses. (Either port can be used as the inlet/outlet ports). No port must be left open ie. depending on the layout required, manual bleed valves, pilot hoses or pneumatic actuation plugs may be fitted. To connect the 3/16 pilot hose to the inlet/outlet ports of the actuator requires the use of 3/16 x 1/8 adaptor (P/C 309.017.005). These adaptors must not be omitted as this could cause the system operation to fail. For remote manual actuation the actuator is fitted with a shear strap in place of the steel safety pin. This must be specified at time of order. When operated the actuator latches to keep the container valve open. The knurled reset plunger must be pulled to reset the actuator after operation. The Manual Vent Valve serves two functions. Firstly, it acts to relieve a gradual pressure build up occurring, perhaps as a result of a leaking pilot container, master container or solenoid. Secondly, it provides a means by which pressure trapped in the actuation circuits may be manually relieved. The manual vent valve relieves automatically up to a pressure of approximately 2 bar and seals at pressures above this. Pressure is relieved manually by pulling the knurled reset plunger. The CO2 manifold is designed to enable all the containers in a row to be connected to the supply pipe. The standard manifolds are for 2, 3, 4 or 5 containers and are available in two sizes, 25mm (1) and 32mm (1 1/4). The manifolds may be joined using sockets or tees to produce any

configuration to suit any number of containers on a system. Non-standard sizes may be produced to order. All manifolds are galvanised inside and out and pressure tested to 190 bar.

Odouriser 2000
The Odouriser 2000 is designed to give a distinctive small to the CO2 and is particularly useful in basements or low lying areas in the vicinity of the system or any place where CO2 could drift to following a discharge. Liquid citrus odour is contained in the body of the odouriser and is sealed in by a lead disc. Pressure of the discharging CO2 causes the disc to rupture and allows the liquid to escape and mix with the CO2. One type odouriser is used for each 2000Kg of CO2. Pressure Operated Distribution Valve

The fog nozzle is a discharge horn designed to project CO2 in the direction of the fire hazard. CO2 is discharged in the form of a mist or fog and the discharge velocity is relatively low, thus making it suitable for use in local application systems particularly where flammable liquids are involved and there could be a danger of splashing from the impingement of CO2. Nitrogen Pilot Container Solenoid

The solenoid actuator is fitted directly on to the top of the container valve or pilot cylinder by means of a swivel coupling, which enables the unit to be positioned as preferred for electrical connection. The solenoid actuator is a spring loaded device which when armed holds a plunger away from the container valve operating shaft. An integral part of the solenoid actuator is a manual release button. Accidental release is prevented by means of a steel safety pin. The T528 Manual Release Unit is used where remote mechanical manual release of the CO2 system is required. The unit comprises of a box with a hinged yellow lid which is held in the closed position by two frangible washers.
