and the Livery

Companies

One of the cardinal duties of all Livery Companies is to support charitable activities. In the last year for which figures were available the 108 Companies of the City of London gave a total in excess of £41 million to a wide selection of charities. This was generally split be- tween welfare, education, church, the environment, support of craft or trade or general good causes. This generosity makes the Livery movement as a whole one of the Country’s most significant charity donors.

The Worshipful Company of Chartered Architects takes this commitment very seriously, and seeks donations in the first place from its members. However today's needs are greater, and so we are seeking to raise additional funds from friends and supporters for the causes recognised through the architectural profession.

Management of Donations

The Company’s Charity sub committee organises specific fund raising activities, and the subsequent donations are made payable to the Worshipful Company of Chartered Architects Charitable Trust. The Trustees are members of the Company, and are responsible for the safe keeping and management of Trust funds. In turn the Charity and Education Committee determines how and when such funds should be allocated and dispersed. The Court is kept informed by the charity sub committee and Charity Steward and by the Clerk to the Trustees as appropriate.

Charitable Giving

The contributions from members of the Worshipful Com- pany, including gifts and legacies, is insufficient to meet the increasing requests for assistance which the Company faces. It is for this reason that the Charity sub committee existsto seek ways and means of adding to the charitable funds. It is the intention to build on the reputation the Worshipful Company has established in the short time it has been in existence.

The contributions by members and those outside the Company are greatly valued. There are several ways in which contributions can be made to support the work of the Charitable Trust:

can be made to support the work of the Charitable Trust: Regular contributions by Direct Debit
