You are a member of a team that manages the IT department for a small company.

Recently, your company has been acquired by a much larger company and it is up to you and your IT department to assimilate your company into the larger company. Your company, with only 15 employees, have until this point used a Workgroup environment to share resources and files but the new company uses a centralized management system with Windows Server 2008 in a domain infrastructure.

Scenario:

Objective
Using the knowledge you have gained through this course (and using at least one item from each chapter), you must upgrade your infrastructure to a new child domain under the existing parent company. You will have limited access to the resources and accounts of the parent company and will only be given sufficient enough access to complete the integration process. Further, it is you and your teams responsibility to ensure a smooth transition as well as provide documentation that will be given to the IT department of the new large company.

Students will work in teams (up to 3 per team no exceptions) o Company ABC has been acquired by LargeCompanyXYZ. Company ABC used to work completely independently at an office located in Smalltown, Ontario. LargeCompanyXYZ has been around for quite some time and has branch offices located all over the world with a head office in Toronto, Ontario. o LargeCompanyXYZ has an existing infrastructure which uses Active Directory to keep track of all its domains, computers and user accounts. o Company ABC on the other hand had only 15 users and worked completely as a workgroup, with each employee having access to their own workstation. o Now that Company ABC has merged with LargeCompanyXYZ, they have to be assimilated into the existing domain structure in such a way as to ensure they have full connectivity where necessary and so that the Server Administrators can manage the new remote site from the head office. o The team has been hired to ensure a smooth integration and must: Develop a strategy Implement the strategy Ensure compliance with the existing infrastructure policies Demonstrate full connectivity and accessibility Deliver documentation to the head office administrators at LargeCompanyXYZ explaining the steps that were taken and the layout of the new remote site. All students will work together to complete these tasks and will be graded as follows:

Good Afternoon, After the recent merger of our two companies, it has been brought to our attention that you require documentation outlining the policies of our company to ensure compliance with our existing infrastructure. We at LargeCompanyXYZ require you to follow this documentation and use it to ensure the transition goes smoothly. You have been given a domain administrator account to use when you are ready to begin the migration to Active Directory. You may use the account Domadmin with the password MSPress#2 to join the domain. You may create any necessary accounts to gather pertinent information but these must be first permitted by us. Note; also, that there is an Enterprise administrator account but you are forbidden to use it unless explicitly allowed by our department. We are aware that you will be able to modify the password and if you are found to have done so, you will be penalized. You must have completed this transition process prior to December 1, 2011 so that we can move forward as a harmonized company and if you fail to complete in this time frame, you again will be penalized. Part B: Final lab Evaluation

Lab evaluation can be either in a video format, website or a power point presentation. The choice of presentation is up to the team. Other than the items explicitly listed in this project and lab outline, you are encouraged to be creative as well as thorough in your research, planning and implementation.
