ore than 500 students received scholarships and education grants to attend high schools, universities, colleges and training institutions, as part of the MPs Education Scholarship Fund, which aims to provide financial assistance to the most capable and deserving students. Over 5,000 primary school students received book vouchers, to acquire educational material Literacy and numeracy among 50 adults has greatly improved with the introduction of the innovative Cuban programme Yo Si Puedo/ Yes I Can at parent site in Gayle. s part of an ongoing programme to provide more opportunities for high school graduates and young adults, MP Montague has invited HEART Trust /NTA- the National Training Agency to increase the number of training facilities in St Mary. Resulting from his thrust, five training centres, Wood Park, Boscobel, Charles Town, Eden Park and Retreat have been opened, while he gives support to two other independent ones. Grace and Middlesex. MP Montague has been the driving force in establishing tertiary institutions in the constituency; IUC, in Tower Isle, Gayle and soon the UWI will start classes in Oracabessa.

t has been an honour and privilege for me to serve the people of Western St. Mary constituency as Member of Parliament for the past four years. During the period, our focus has been on education and training, as well as infrastructures including roads, buildings for schools, health centres and community recreations. With the cooperation from several agencies of government, as well as financial support from the Constituency Development Fund, the CHASE Fund and sponsorship contributions from the private sector, we have started to address some of the challenges facing the communities.

We are pleased with the road repairs as residents, including farmers, are finding it much easier to commute as they conduct their personal activities. Water is indeed life, as for the first time several hundred people are enjoying portable water in their own bathrooms and kitchen. Most people in urban communities could not survive a day without light and power, however up to a few months ago, some 120 householders never experienced electricity in their homes. I therefore wish to commend the staff of the Rural Electrification Programme, for their support and commitment to provide services to communities, in the shortest possible time.

More than 50 km of roads in the constituency were already repaired under the programme. MP and Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Robert Montague, presents a sample of Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee to Pamela E. AGRICULTURE AND FOOD PRODUCTION

ith more than 40% of the residents in Western St. Mary engaged of farming activities, MP Montague has allocated a significant portion of his CDF to provide production incentives and direct grant support to several hundred farmers in the constituency. Pesticides, fertilizers, planting materials, day-old chicks and farming tools and equipment, are among the input supplies being allocated to farmers. Contracts will be signed for Mason Hall/Days Mountain water supply under he JSIF programme. Montreal Hall will soon get water under phase 2 of the Carron Hall Water Supply Scheme. A model solar water pump system, funded by Environmental Foundation of Jamaica (EFJ) and St. Mary Charaties and designed by Utech. The MPs CDF, has facilitated water supply to Carron Hall Primary and Infant schools, Dry Gully and neighbouring community.

n keeping with government policy of providing free medical health care to all Jamaicans, Mr. Montague has been focusing on upgrading the physical plants. Under his watch, a health centre has been built in Jeffery Town, painting and furnishing of the Carron Hall facility and painting of the centre at Woodpark. The Port Maria Hospital operating theatre is being refurbished and new equipment installed, while the health centres at Gayle and Retreat were repaired. Plans are afoot to repair the Mason Hall and Free Hill Clinics, and to establish a clinic in Labyrinth. Minister Montague has donated medical equipment, valued at over $15 million, from his own effort.

he Rural Electrification Programme (REP) was incorporated in 1975 with the specific mandate to expand the reach of electricity supply to rural areas, where the provision of such services would not be economically viable for commercial providers of electricity. Several communities including Cobb Street and Pam Hill, (Hunts Town), Ecuador (Mango Valley), Flint Street (Oxford), Cobb Street (Hunts Town) have benefited. Work is ongoing or being designed on the Dressikie to Wellington, (Ramble Road) Saltrum, Kingsland, Bennett Hill, Girlie Street and White Hill schemes.

Rural Electrification

Gayle, Retreat, Oracabessa and other health centres have received millions dollars worth of medical supplies including wheel chairs through Minister Montague and his overseas contacts.

The Retreat and Gayle clinics are repaired, resulting in better healthcare facilities for the people of Cascade, Lodge, Labyrinth, Charles Town, Petersfield, Retreat and Bamboo Walk.

roviding affordable shelters for the residents of the community is a major priority of the MP Montague who announced the constructions of more housing solutions in Eden Park and Boscobel communities. Over $5 M has been used to assist hundreds of constituents in repairing homes and recovering from damages caused by fire or floods. A new housing scheme is being constructed in the hills of Bascobel.

Affordable Shelters

Other schemes are planned for Three Hills, Hamililton Mountain, Salisbury and Galina. Land ownership at Huddersfield will be regularised as was those in Eden Park and Bascobell Operation Pride schemes.

Mountain, and Oracabessa have also received lawn mowers from the MP. The first BMX track in the Caribbean is being constructed at the Eden Park Sports Complex, Jacks River. A proud project partnered by the Oracabessa Foundation, Sports Development Foundation (SDF) and MP Montague/CDF. A mini-stadium is under construction in Oracabessa, and will house a recording studio, track, football fields and a kiddies sports corner.

Jacks River and its environs can smile proudly since the playfield has been upgraded and is now the best playing surface in the parish.
