Specialist of Academic Services Upward Bound Project The Center for Diversity & Enrichment at the University of Iowa

is seeking a Specialist of Academic Services for its TRiO Upward Bound Project. The Specialist of Academic Services is responsible for creating social and academic skill-building curriculum and college-going curriculum for students who are first generation and/or low income. The Specialist of Academic Services uses this curriculum, along with other specialists, to instruct Upward Bound participants during the academic year in target communities, including Columbus Community, Davenport Community, Muscatine, and West Liberty. The position also involves being responsible for working with target schools to get academic data on participants, and tracking students academic performance, including standardized test results. During the summer component, the Specialist of Academic Services recruits, hires, trains, and supervises an instructional staff consisting of approximately 15teachers, and oversees the academic component, which entails assisting in curriculum development, to securing supplies, and making classroom arrangements on The University of Iowa campus. Other duties may be assigned. In-state travel two to three days per week as well as occasional weekend activities during both the academic year and summer component are required. Education:

A Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is required; a Masters degree is preferred.
Required Qualifications: Reasonable (one to three years) experience interacting with high school age students from various U.S. ethnic and racial backgrounds Demonstrated commitment to promoting a diverse environment Excellent interpersonal and oral, and written and communication skills Strong planning skills Possess a valid motor vehicle drivers license and meet the University Fleet Safety Program requirements (University of Iowa Operations Manual Part V, Chapter 19).
