November 2011

Dear Friend, Greetings to you on this beautiful November day! With the Lord Jesus in our lives we have many things to be thankful for, especially eternal life! So every day is a day of thanksgiving. I have found that thankfulness is a choice we make daily. Its not what I receive but what I give to God and others. We live in a world where taking seems more important than giving. But everyone can give thanks. When Jesus walked this earth He didnt look for many things. But one thing He did look for was a thankful heart. There is an account in the Bible where Jesus met ten lepers. They all cried out to Him for mercy, and when He saw them, He said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed (Luke 17:13 & 14). What a marvelous thing took place! These lepers had an impossible situation remedied by the Lord in a moments time. They all were cleansed when they responded to His Word by faith. And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, And fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks: and he was a Samaritan (Verses 15 & 16). One man out of ten returned to thank the Lord for healing him. What were the others thinking? Why just one returned to thank the Lord? We actually have many things in our lives we can be thankful for. When I look around and recognize the many wonderful people God put in my life, each family member, each friend, every person who comes to church and supports the work of God, I find myself thanking God for all His marvelous gifts of love, mercy and grace. This one man came back to thank the Lord before he went on his way to the priests. The priests could wait: the thanks couldnt. His heart overflowed with gratitude as he turned to the One who rescued him. Too often we put religion ahead of the praise God deserves. In their religion, they were required to show themselves to the priests, who would make a determination on their condition. But this man thought being thankful came first: then he would go show himself to the priests. And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. And He said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole (Luke 17: 17-19). Jesus looked at thankfulness in terms of

faith. A thankful heart is a heart full of faith. Faith in Christ enables us to overcome the world! What is your situation? Have you made a choice to be thankful? Its really not what others do: its what you do. You have the choice of your own outlook and actions. That leper was cleansed and made whole simply because he chose to return to give glory to God for what the Lord did for him. Im sure if you look closely enough you will see the good things the Lord has done for you. Please dont get caught up in the thinking of the world. The world is convinced everyone from the government to parents to teachers to friends, owe them a living, a blessing, respect, etc. If they dont receive what they want or expect they get angry and feel hindered and betrayed. But the fact is, we choose to be bound by others actions. I for one dont want to be bound by what others do. I have found there is freedom in my choice to be thankful. Even the Lord likes it when you are thankful. He forms a special relationship with those who have learned to be thankful. A thankful heart is a free heart. A thankful person is one who will come forth of them all! I pray you have a wonderful Thanksgiving this year. May God bless you and yours abundantly this year and always.
