October 2011

Dear Friend, Greetings on this beautiful Fall day from everyone at the Full Gospel Lighthouse Church in Torrington, CT. The Lord is moving by His Spirit and those who hear His call and come to Him receive eternal life. Its as simple as that! I have found by studying the Word of God that the Lord has a tender place in His heart for the widows and fatherless children of this world. Countless verses of Scriptures tell us He cares for them and watches over them continually. One verse stands out to me this month where Jesus said, I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you (John 14:18). Some translations of the Bible use the word orphans in place of comfortless. The presence in the home of a good father brings comfort and peace to children. If for some reason the father is no longer there, our heavenly Father has made promises to us. He is compassionate and merciful, kind and gentle towards those in need. He told us He would come to us in those hours of need. If you can listen closely with your heart, you will hear His call. That call comes in a still, small voice, but He speaks to us. The Bible says, Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you! (James 4:8). There was a time I could not figure out what the purpose the Gospels held for me. I thought this because they were written hundreds of years ago about a man who lived in a completely different society than mine in a different century. But the Gospels tell us what the Lord is like, His personality, how He reacted in certain circumstances, what He thought, said and did while He was here on earth. These instances in His life give me an idea of how He thinks towards humanity, even today. The prophet Jeremiah said, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart (Jeremiah 29:11-13). This doesnt sound like a God who is watching to destroy me at a moments notice if I do evil or make a mistake! It sounds like a God who is completely opposite of that! He has thoughts of peace towards us despite our sinful ways. He desires to be in our lives as a friend that will stick closer than a brother. He wants to give us grace and mercy. It is no glory for Him to condemn us all the time and turn away from us (even though we

deserve it!). But He looks to make peace with us and bring us into the blessings of eternal life. He went to the cross so He would suffer the punishment of our sins in our place, carrying our transgressions and iniquities, our burdens and cares. That doesnt sound like a God who wants to destroy lost humanity, but rather, to save us! When we understand that He has tender thoughts toward us, thoughts of peace and not of evil, then we will call upon Him and He will answer us and we will find Him, for He is only a prayer away! It is my sincere prayer that everyone who reads these words will come to know the Lord Jesus Christ. He has thoughts of peace towards us and will give us that peace that passes all understanding if we will turn to Him with all our hearts. To know Him is life and peace. Give Him your heart today. You will never be the same! I invite you to our church. We are the Full Gospel Lighthouse Church, located at 624 Torringford West Street in Torrington, CT.
