subject-verb agreement
As you are building your sentences you should keep in mind that the verb must always agree with the subject of a sentence. This is true for all present tense verbs and auxiliary verbs. The basic rule states that singular subjects need singular verbs and plural subjects need plural verbs. In this lesson we will focus on how to identify singular and plural verbs and their subjects. For example, in the sentence I am a teacher, both the subject I and the verb am are in the singular form. If the sentence had a plural subject and a plural verb, it would read, We are teachers. Here are some more examples: Singular Subjects and Verbs I love chocolate. You are a good student. He has a blue pen. Plural Subjects and Verbs We love chocolate. You guys are good students. They have blue pens.
