Cage leveled is achieved by use of either mechanical systems, hydraulic systems or combination of both.
These machines have the ability to provi and ovef' solution to access problems which gives them some major advantages over the straight boom type of machine.
Cage rotation may be provided as an option. These machines can be powered by diesel, gas battery or combination of types.

The safe working load is normally much than the straight or articulating/combination machines, however some scissor lift platforms have the capability of a ROLL OUT DECKwhich extends the working area. All types of Mobile Elevating Work Platforms have an OPERATING AREA or ENVELOPE.
SCISSOR LIFT MACHINES - generally this consist of "straight up" for the width of the platform. This may change to extend only if an extending deck is available.

ARTICULATING TELESCOPIC and TELESCOPIC BOOMS WITH FOLDING TIP SECTIONS have a much more complex working range.
TRUCK MOUNTED MACHINES - a the range diagram provided to ensure positioning. REMEMBER - it is not possible to have the maximum reach at the same time, the greater the height the greater the reach the less the height. Care must be exercised when considering the task and where to position the machine to ensure that it is within the working envelope.

This can have an effect on the operator causing great discomfort and hindering the work 'ii, carried out. At a comfortable 1OoC there would be no with little or no wind, however should tfre winO speed increase to 20 mph the actual temperature felt on the exposed skin would be 0oC. With a wind speed of 2O mph and the same temperature, the actual temperature felt on the exposed skin would be -1soC.
Therefore the operator should protect himself from these conditions. With increased working heights the perceived effects will be much exaggerated.

When using internal combustion eng are fuelled with LIQUIFIED PETROLE (LPG) do not refuel/change bottles as any leakage of gas will collect at the lowest point and any spark or flame could cause an explosion, when carried out in an enclosed area.

When parking up at the end of work or if machine unattended for a period,of time. points should be considered:-

The cage/platform controls must also be checked before elevating the machine with persons/loads. Some machines do not have lower controls, if this is so, extreme care MUST be given to functional checks.

Always use solid timber in good and sound condition close packed. Do not attempt to operate with insufficient packing materials or pad size. Steel plates may also be used together with track way for entry and exit from site. REMEMBER:- lf the base is bad the outlook is even worse.
With "A" frame outriggers it is not only the correct weight distribution which is important BUT it is MANDATORY that the MINIMUM OPERATING BASE OF THE OUTRIGGERS IS OBTAINED. Many MEWP's have markers on the outriggers legs to indicate when this is reached,

Particular attention when cornering and reversing in tight areas and in congested traffic areas.

On some telescopic boom machines the maximum reach that can be achieved may vary the actual load in the cage. This is achieved by the use of a LOAD MAMANGEMENT SYSTEM which will prohibit functions when rated SWL has been achieved given boom length/radius. The functions which are prohibited are BOOM DOWN & TELESCOPIC OUT: thus only safe movements are permitted eg: BOOM UP & TELESCOPIC lN. Swing is not restricted.

CAUTION: - With these systems, it is possible if the task requires removal of goods from the structure into the cage that, if the position and weight in the cage is close to the maximum, an overload condition will occur without warning.
