ANDROMEDA
Defined by Ross Lovegrove as ' -- an artificial structure for capturing artificial light'. The concept is a sculptural form created by taking a solid shape and reducing its mass by perforation, leaving a minimal structure similar to that of bone or plant cellular structures. The form has also been likened to a diatomic sea creature and it floats in space being illuminated from within by LED clusters. The addition of two adjustable mirrors doubles the lighting performance and re-directs it through the open structure to create soft shadows onto the surroundings. This effect is an extension of the floating installation at its centre and subtly expresses further associations with organic root-like forms.
