The school administrators wanted a web presence for their institution because of the following reasons: 1. For the students, parents and teachers to view school announcements even if at home. The parents can be provided with just-in-time information if the administrator decided to postpone the classes due, for example, to severe weather conditions. NEWS / NOTICES 2. For the parents to view their own childs/childrens progress or assignments.LOG-IN / CHILDS STATUS 3. For the parents to electronically inform the teacher/administrator if their own child is sick or will be absent. LOG-IN MESSAGE 4. For the teachers to view information about their pupils. For example, in case of childs absence arising in 3. LOG-IN TEACHER 5. For prospective pupils and their parents. Answers to questions that are usually asked by parents of prospective pupils such as tuition fees, direction to school, and probably an online tour of the school. FAQ (FREQUENLY ASK QUESTIONS) 6. For prospective teachers and administrators. Answers to questions asked by prospective employees. JOBS 7. For the community where the school belongs for announcing school activities that are open to the public such as theater plays, and games. EVENTS This project is limited only to designing the homepage. The homepage is the first page that a web visitor will see whenever the website is visited via the website address. Thus, our task is to design the homepage such that the goals of the school administrators can somewhat be captured by the page alone. Here, we will need our knowledge in designing usable and accessible homepages. We will need also our knowledge in scripting standard XHTML, CSS and JavaScript. In summary, our final product has the following attributes/characteristics: 1. Design a homepage for the nursery school 2. The homepage must reflect the wants of the school administrator 3. The coding must be in standard XHTML 4. The content and structure of the homepage must be separated. Content goes to the HTML page while the visual structure goes to the CSS file 5. All codes must be validated Aside from the homepage, prepare a write-up (in HTML format, with sections similar to the report that you prepared in Project 0) explaining why certain homepage items are located/designed as such. You will have to argue and convince your professor the validity of your design by mentioning some

IT 221 Project 1 Page 1/2 principles outlined in the second e-book (Designing with Web Standards). Visually convince your professor by including and discussing in your write-up various screen shots of your homepage using various browsers. Files to Upload: The homepage must be saved in a filename with the following format: 1. The HTML file : [GroupNo]_project1.html 2. The CSS file: [GroupNo]_project1.css 3. The JavaScript file: [GroupNo]_project1.js 4. Graphics file: [GroupNo]_project1_[short-description] 5. The write-up file in HTML format: [GroupNo]_writeup.html Save the files in a zip file using [GroupNo]_project1.zip as filename. Useful Help 1. www.google.com and search for homepage design 2.
