Chinese shoppers are very enthusiastic about online shopping. As a result, the number of online shoppers is expected to increase to more than 300 million by 2015. Convenience and good deals are most frequently cited as the advantages of online shopping in China. Mobile shopping continues to gain ground in China. This trend can be attributed to the growing number of smartphone sales and the increased use of 3G networks. Tmall.com, 360buy.com and Amazon.cn are the leading players in Chinese B2C E-Commerce. In June 2011, the leading group shopping sites in China were Ju.taobao.com, Lashou.com and Meituan.com.

As Smartphones become more popular in China, reading habits of Chinese people switch from traditional media to online accessible media. At the end of 2010, a total of 303 million Chinese made use of mobile Internet access, representing a growth of 30% compared to 2009. Total revenue of the digital publishing industry has grown from CNY 21.3 billion (USD 3.3 billion) in 2006 to CNY 105 billion in 2011. 92% of Chinese Internet users prefer free online content if they want to consume novels, magazines or cartoons, but one fifth of Internet users are willing to pay for quality content such as Newspapers and education information. Meanwhile, the length of unique exposure to online matter decreases as smartphones allow easy access in short periods of time: while waiting for transportation, a friend, in class, at work etc. Because of these habits, social networking sites, offering quick interactions, are a preferred pastime, challenging literature content. Mobile reading has to match this consumption pattern by shrinking the length of texts online. One of the key players in the Chinese online publishing market is wap.cmread.com, by China Mobile, which has been visited by nearly 30% of those surveyed by the Chinese Academy of Press and Publication.
