How can the believers support Allaah The Almighty?

How can the believers support Allaah The Almighty so that He would also aid them? This is the least that we must be concerned about, alongside analyzing the reason behind our downfall, as was the practice of the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, and his Companions, may Allaah be pleased with them. As we mentioned before, the defeat in the battle of Uhud was precipitated by a single sin that was committed by the believers. In contrast, our misdeeds are innumerable; thus, we warrant subjugation and humiliation until the Day of Judgment. Hence, we must discover how this degradation and defeat can be removed. When the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, and his Companions, may Allaah be pleased with him, would enter into battles and sense that victory is being delayed, they would seek out the cause for that in calling themselves to account for their actions. What is happening these days also has a reason, which most probably is our abandonment of the Words of Allaah The Almighty, disavowal, neglect and avoidance of propagating the Sunnah of the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, to increase the number of those who adhere to it, and fear of applying them both, inwardly and outwardly. When the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, was engaged in war for which he had prepared himself and his army well, his attachment to Allaah The Almighty was, nonetheless, the fundamental means of seeking victory. During the night of the battle of Badr, he constantly prayed to, and implored, Allaah The Almighty to support the believers until Abu Bakr, may Allaah be pleased with him, consoled him, saying: Some supplications to your Lord [are sufficient]. Allaah The Almighty will surely fulfill what He promised you.

The Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, stayed up all night supplicating to Allaah The Almighty to make the Muslims victorious. Why, then, do the believers not spend a night doing the same, beseeching Him to raise their standard and ward off the harm of the polytheists?

These days, why do the believers not return to their Quran, recite it and devote themselves to that, in order to help stem the alienation amongst themselves and restore its light, blessing and mercy to the heart, whereby, they would then be granted the victory of Allaah The Almighty? Why does no one think that the offense of the criminals against the Quran merits [our] extra adherence to it, additional recitation of it and eschewal of abandoning it? The latter can only be achieved by learning, teaching, memorizing and reading it, as well as taking it as a manual by which to judge, a means of healing and a resource for inviting others to Islam. Why does anyone not observe these rights and bother to recite the entire Quran every three days seeking to make Tawassul (intercession) to Allaah The Almighty through this recitation to support it and His religion?

Moreover, why do Muslims not gather to study and teach the Quran and commit it to memory? What prevents them from spreading the knowledge within it, and its radiance and blessing among people, and becoming preoccupied with putting an end to their neglect [of it]? Who among us makes the Quran his or her main concern, such that he or she spends his or her days and nights trying to further its beliefs, bounties and meanings? Why do we not go back to Allaah The Almighty, repenting from our sins and misdeeds, which are the initial factors of our defeat? Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {And turn to Allaah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.} [Quran 24:31]

This is the first step the believers should take, in defending Allaah The Almighty; it creates the grounds for the removal of this tribulation [of

nonbelievers maligning Islam]. We should take note of our shortcomings, and establish, learn and bind ourselves to abidance by the Sunnah of the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, in front of Allaah The Almighty, and be among those about whom Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {Those to whom We have given the Book recite it with its true recital. They [are the ones who] believe in it} [Quran 2:121].

Thus, our covenant today should be to dedicate ourselves wholeheartedly to these words and take a stand demonstrating our repentance and coming back to Allaah The Almighty. It must also entail an oath before our Lord to support this Quran and the Messenger, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, through fulfilling His orders, avoiding His prohibitions, calling others to Him, and learning the Quran and teaching it.

How different would it then be for a congregation of Muslims like ours here in Europe? Each year, we search for people to come to us from Muslim countries to lead us in prayer in Ramadhaan because of the scarcity here, of those who have memorized the Words of Allaah The Almighty. What do the Muslims expect when there is a shortage of those who have memorized the Quran, and who follow it and spread its guidance, blessing, light and mercy, as Allaah The Almighty describes them.

Similarly, we have been completely neglectful of the Sunnah of the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, either out of fear, shame, laziness, or procrastination. It is time for us to wake up before the inevitable calamity comes and before we find this attitude rampant in our countries and disasters befalling us, as is already the case.

Why, then, do we not enter into covenants before Allaah The Almighty to be true believers? Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {[Such niches are] in mosques which Allaah has ordered to be raised and that His name be mentioned therein; exalting Him within them in the morning and the evenings* [Are] men whom neither commerce nor sale distracts from the remembrance of Allaah and performance of prayer and giving of Zakaah (obligatory charity). They fear a Day in which the hearts and eyes will [fearfully] turn about} [Quran 24:36-37] Such people frequent the mosques, as the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, said: The mosque is the house of each pious Muslim.
