MALS-11, EMARINE COMMUNICATION TOOL EMARINE is here at MALS-11. EMarine is our official organizational communication tool. It was developed to deliver readiness information to Marines and those who support them. This includes other service-members, civilian Marines, Family Members, and friends. Per MarAdmin 499/11, EMarine is being implemented throughout the entire Marine Corps, providing a consistent and familiar tool for you to use as you move from one unit to another. eMarine can be customized for your information needs and preferences. The National Military Family Association is now accepting applications for its annual Joanne Holbrook Patton Military Spouse Scholarship Program. The Association recognizes the unique challenges todays military spouses face pursuing additional training or education. Scholarships of up to $1,000 are awarded to help ease the financial obstacles that accompany pursuing a higher education. Scholarships are awarded in six categories: * General (High School GED, English as a Second Language, Post-Secondary, Graduate), * Licensing Fee, * Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math Degree (to include certain healthcare fields), * Spouses of Fallen Service Members, * Spouses of Wounded Service Members, * Vocational or Technical Certification. Applications will only be accepted online http://www.militaryfamily.org/our-programs/military-spouse-scholarships and must be submitted by midnight EST, Jan 31, 2012. Spouses of uniformed service members (active duty, National Guard and Reserve, retirees, and survivors) from any branch or rank are eligible to apply. Op Homefront announced the opening of the 2012 Military Child of the Year Award nomination period. The award will be given to an outstanding military child from each Service Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. The winners, who each will receive $5,000, will be flown with a parent or guardian to Washington, D.C., for special recognition ceremony on Apr 5, 2012. Nominations are being accepted online until Jan 15, 2012 at www.OperationHomefront.net/MCOY. Ideal candidates for the Military Child of the Year Award demonstrate resilience and strength of character, and thrive in the face of the challenges of military life. They demonstrate leadership within their families and within their communities. The sons and daughters of Americas service members learn what patriotism is at a very young age, said Jim Knotts, chief executive officer, Operation Homefront. Children in military families understand sacrifice and live with the concept of service. This is what the Military Child of the Year Award honors. Nominees must: Must have valid military ID or currently be enrolled in DEERS, Must be between the ages of 8-18, Must be able to travel to Washington, D.C., for the ceremony on April 5, 2012. Finalists must have a background check to confirm the information provided in the nomination and must provide references. COLGATE UNIVERSITY FALL 2012 ADMISSIONS OPPORTUNITY Colgate University is SEEKING to admit two Marines for Fall 2012. Colgate is one of the most highly selective liberal arts colleges in the nation consistently ranking in the top 25 in the country. Colgate is one the rare highly selective LSP institutions that GUARANTEES admission for two LSP Marines if they meet their set criteria. Colgate has committed a guarantee that based upon a Marine's demonstrated need, their maximum annual cost for room, board, tuition and books will not exceed $2000. Colgate's student charges for 2011-2012 are estimated at $55,570. In other words, this is a scholarship opportunity worth $25+K per year. The Great Escape, enlisted recreation center, is hosting its 25th annual HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS Program. As in the past we have had an overwhelming response from the community. We are always in need of active duty military personnel who would like to have a delicious home cooked Holiday meal. This is a FREE program and is available to all active duty service members. The Great Escape matches up local families with active duty personnel who cannot make it home for the Christmas holidays. The host families pick up and return service members to The Great Escape on Christmas Day. While in the host family's home service members are provided a traditional holiday meal in the company of a caring family. By participating in this program YOU are allowing the community to show their appreciation to you, the service member. We are open Sunday 0945 2300 (during football season), Mon 1100 2300, Tues Thurs 1100 2400 and Fri and Sat 1100 0100, We are open all holidays. What is in The GE? The GE features a variety of activities including but not limited to: Gaming Rooms (X BOX 360, PS 3, Wii, Kinect, Nintendo 64 and a game cube and a lot of games), 6 tournament size pool tables, ping pong tables, foosball and air hockey, 2 lounge areas with 60 TVs, and a movie room with 132 screen, 18 leather recliners and bean bags.
