Written Policy – Cafeteria

Cafeteria:
Goal: The cafeteria will be a safe and clean environment where adults and students are
treated with courtesy and respect.
Responsible Cafeteria Behavior
 Teachers will walk their class inside the cafeteria.
 While in line, students will be in control of their bodies, (hands, feet, and objects
to themselves)
 Students should maintain the voice level zero (0) = No Talking; except for saying
please and thank you in the lunch line.
 Paras will use designated communication tool to articulate notable student
behavior.
Bathroom Procedures:
 Students will use the bathroom with their class during their teacher’s designated
time.
 Emergency – Students should be sent to hallway bathroom with one buddy.
Coming to Lunch and Lunch Line
1. Teachers must bring their behavior chart with them; the CLIPBOARD.
2. Students will be escorted into the cafeteria in one line by their teacher (enter using
the back door entrance)
3. Lunch box students will be seated and wait for their peers before eating.
4. Students will walk through the lunch line quietly and choose up to four (4) items
for their tray.
5. Students must get all necessary utensils and sauces before going to their seats.
6. In order to promote food manners; students may begin to eat when all students
have been served and seated.
Lunch Area Procedures
 Students will use a voice level zero (0) while eating (no talking).
 Paras will circulate through their assigned areas ensuring all students maintain
appropriate cafeteria behavior and voice level.
 When students have finished eating, they may talk in a whisper or 6 inch voice to
the students next to them or across the table.
 Students will keep hands, feet and objects to themselves.
1. Students will stay in their seats and raise their hand for an adult’s help
2. Students will eat quietly and use good manners.
3. Students will walk in the lunch area
4. Everyone will treat others with respect.
Dismissal
 Clean-up
 K-2 raise hand when finished with their food
 3-5 grades pass their trays to the end of the table closest to the trash can
when everyone is finished with their food.
 Paras will assist students with clean-up and trash disposal, students will sit
quietly at their table until the classroom teacher dismisses the students to
line up.
 Paras monitor student behavior at tables until their teacher arrives.
 Students will walk quietly to front door to line up.
 All students will face forward, silently with hands to themselves.
