To the editor...

Darryl, Neryl, Brenden & Julie would like to thank everyone for their support & kind words over the past few weeks. To know that so many people thought so highly of Ralph is very humbling. To every person who spared a thought, sent a card, made a phone call, brought around food or just said hello; our family says thank you. It is this support from the local and wider communities that must remind all of us, that in times of sadness, the support from a community can help you through. Special thanks must go to Reverend Jono for all he has done, to Tony & Raelene Warne & staff at the Canowindra Hotel, Canowindra Lions Club and The Age of Fishes Museum Volunteers & Staff for organising and donating the food for the wake. We ask that if anyone has a spare $10 this Christmas, they make a donation to the Beyond Blue Organisation, so that our tragic loss may bring hope to someone elses family. Please see the NAB in Canowindra and they can direct the funds to the right account. The Fliedner Family, Canowindra

It is disappointing that Canowindra only featured 3 times in the Member for Dubbo's "The Soap Box", just received. Two of these acknowledged the success of The Age of Fishes Museum and the other The Old Vic Inn, respectively. The third referred to the completion of a road bridge. Not long ago Canowindra was considered as being at the "a--- end " of Cabonne Shire, however current development works in the town have come as a bit of a surprise. In the case of the Dubbo Electorate it looks as though Canowindra is at that same "end" of the Electorate. Over the years there have been calls for To the editor... Canowindra to secede from Cabonne Thank you to the community of Canowindra for the wonderfully generous Shire to join Cowra Shire. Now it appears that there are grounds also for Canowinresponse for the Christmas Appeal collection that was taken at the Carols on dra to secede from the Dubbo Electorate and join that of Burrinjuck, whose sitting the lawn at Moyne - which turned out to be Carols in the Dining Room. Over $500 member Katrina Hodgkinson (of at least 10 years) has proved a very worthy local was raised for the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal. There are many thank Member of Parliament. Stacey way lines in the Dubbo Electorate. This is Harkness, Nick Jacobs and Kerrie ( ? in sharp contrast to the efforts of the spelling) O'Dea for their wonderful Member for Burrinjuck, over the Blayney/ musical support on keyboard and violin, Cowra/Young/Demondrill line, currently Cornerstone, Moyne volunteers, the under way. Catholic, Uniting and Anglican Church This non-committal to rail redevelopment singers not mention the staff, residents and friends of Moyne the community for in country NSW makes a mockery of the turning up. All this made for a wonderful hype generated pre the March 2011 evening including a visit from Santa who State Election. Yours sincerely, gave lollies to the children. SENIOR CRICKET Canowindra cricket club returned to form on Saturday with a four wicket win over Valleys at Holman Oval. After winning the toss for a record third time in a row captain Nick Guthrie decided to bowl first and it immediately paid off with Guthrie removing Dave Henderson in the first over with the score still on zero. Brendan Traves picked up the second wicket but Valleys were scoring more freely and were 2/81 at drinks after 24 overs. After drinks a great partnership of bowling between Al Myers and Nick Traves brought Canowindra right back into the game. Both boys bowled accurately and took wickets at regular intervals with Myers removing danger men Troy Hayes for 41 and then Daniel Frenda-Briggs (17) with his next ball. Nick Traves also found himself on a hat trick when he removed J Montgomery and Ricky Duclos in successive balls. When Nick Guthrie and Brendan Traves returned to bowl the last four overs Canowindra had fought back well and with the last two wickets falling quickly Valleys were all out for 119. Nick Traves was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets for only 14 runs off his 10 overs while Myers finished with 2/34 off 11, Brendan Traves had 2/23 and Nick Guthrie 2/35. With regular top order batsman Peter Guthrie and Mark Norman away Shaun Craven and Rohan Toole got Canowindra to 20 before Craven was out. Toole was soon out for 18 and Nic Whatman came and left without scoring to have Canowindra in trouble at 3/36. Brendan Traves made 18 and then a 43 run partnership between Jake Devlin and Nick Guthrie put Canowindra in a strong position. Devlin scored freely with his pull shot especially impressive as he made 38 before falling. Harry Whatman fell shortly after for 4 but Canowindra soon passed Valleys score with 11 overs to spare with Guthrie on 29 and Myers not out 2. This was an impressive win after a few weeks of poor batting performances and Canowindra head into the Christmas break third on the table. After Christmas the boys will try to carry their winning form into the new month long Twenty20 competition. A thank you also to Canowindra Bowling Club for their support.

SWIMMING CLUB Leading the way at Swimming Club this week was a tiny blonde-bombshell, Jessica Bennett; Jessica took 2 seconds of her time in the 33m freestyle heat another 4 seconds in the semi, which put her out of the Final. Not content with this performance she smashed her backstroke best by 10 seconds and completely annihilated her 66 metre freestyle time by 23 seconds. What a performance. Curtis Hughes swam a personal best time of 20 seconds to take home the Spoon. Ellis Hawker emerged from the pool after his 33m backstroke heat with very red abs and the Belly Flop winners certificate. Overall best improver time wise for the night was Georgie Fisher who shattered her previous best time in the 66m freestyle by 34 seconds, a great way to finish 2011. Setting times in his first swim for Canowindra Swimming Club was pool manager Jarrod Strange who now has a time of 19 seconds in the 33m freestyle and 24 seconds in the 33m breaststroke. We look forward to his continued competition. Swimming Club will commence again on Friday 13 January 2012, so sign up before then and be ready at 5:45pm for roll call.
