The ACI establishes a means of communication that is standardized between the EFB Application Control Component (ACC) and the EFB software applications. The ACI protocol may be implemented several software layers residing in both the ACC and in each EFB application. To achieve the objectives of programming language independence and operating system independence, ARINC 840 defines a standard set of messages that are known to the EFB Applications and to the ACC. This allows EFB applications to be developed independent of the EFB platform.
