Me & My Mirror

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will - 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of Gods grace 8 that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, 9 he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, 10 to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfilment - to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ. In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, 12 in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. 13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are Gods possession - to the praise of his glory. Ephesians 1:1-14 (New International Version, 2010) After corporate reading session of the passage (before the teens break up into their respective Forms), Facilitators pass around mirrors to the teens. (We will try to get as many mirrors as possible. Joshua Chan is PIC for this.) Facis can choose to re-read the passage with your Form members. It will be very good to comment/explain the passage a bit. Facis tell the teens to look into the mirror and write down the first five (?) words that appear in their mind when they look into the mirror. Questions : 1. What is the first thing you see when you look in the mirror? What are the first five words that appear in your mind when you look at yourself in the mirror? 2. What parts of your body are you proud of? What parts of your body are you NOT proud of and would like to change? 3. What abilities are you proud of? What abilities you WISH you had? 4. Do you ever wish you were like someone else? Are you having trouble finding "something" that you are good at? (guitar, drums, studies, writing, being friendly, having lots of friends)

5. Do you compare yourself to others? Why? 6. Who are you? Or who do you THINK you are? Who do your friends say you are? Facis, get the teens to write the answer to that on the same piece of paper. Get them to share. (?) Perhaps five words? 7. Who are you in Christ? What does your Father think of you? (read the passage again) "HE blessed us" v.3 "HE chose us" v.4 "HE predestined us" v.5 "HE adopted us" v.5 "HE has freely given us" v.6 "HE redeemed us" v.7 "HE lavished on us" v.8 "HE made known to us" v.9 "HE purposed" v.9 "HE chose us" v.11 "HE included us" v.13 "HE marked us" v.13

So, WHO ARE YOU? Facis, tell teens to crumple previous piece of paper. Ask them to write down their identity in Christ on new sheet of paper. Tell them to keep it to remind themselves of who they really are. (?)

Note to Facilitators : This is for YOU. Use the questions as a guide. Dont run through it just to finish the questions. Give your take on things! Share about your own personal life/ struggles/victories too! Feel free to linger or ask further questions, to probe further etc etc. Please spend time in prayer, read the passage and prepare ;) IMPORTANT : Drive home the point that we are defined and find our purpose in the person and work of Jesus Christ. Who are we? Not what people think, not who we want to be etc etc etc.
