Sujud as Sahw refers to prostration of forgetfulness. It is compulsory if someone adds or deletes something in the prayer mistakenly. Hadith 262 In Zuhr prayer, the Prophet[SAW] did not sit at the end of 2nd rakaat and so at the end of 4th rakaat, he made 2 prostrations before taslim( finishing the prayer with Assalamu alaikum warahmatullah). Prophet[SAW] recited takbir for each prostration and for getting up from prostration and followers followed. One should follow the imam even if he makes a mistake. It is duty of Musalli to inform the imam when he makes a mistake by saying SubhanAllah or a woman by clapping. If someone remind the imam when he is closer to standing position, he should continue to standing position. If closer to sitting position, the imam should go back to sitting position. Hadith 263 Prophet[SAW] prayed only 2 rakaat in zuhr or asr prayer. After being informed, he prayed the remaining 2 rakaat and said the taslim. After that he prostrated 2 times and uttered takbir for each time and for getting up from prostration. The talking between Dhul yadhayn and Prophet[SAW] did not break the prayer. Dhul yadhayn informed the Prophet[SAW] that he had made a mistake. Prophet[SAW] also asked other sahaba to check whether he had indeed made a mistake. Hadith 265 When anyone is in doubt about his solat as to how many rakaat he had prayed (3 or 4), he should cast aside his doubt and base his prayer on what he is sure of and then perform 2 prostrations before taslim. If he cannot cast aside his doubt, he should choose the lower rakaat. This would mean he may have prayed 5 rakaat which would mean that he has prayed exactly 6 prostrations and this will be humiliation for shaytan.

Hadith 266

Prophet[SAW] made extra rakaat and was informed after prayer. So, he faced the Qibla and made 2 prostrations and said taslim. Hadith 267 When anyone of you doubts and stands at the end of 2nd rakaat, if he remembers while having stood up completely, he should continue and should not return to sitting position and he should make 2 prostrations before taslim. If he did not stand up straight, he should sit down and there is no sujud as sahw for him. Hadith 268 There is no sujud as sahw for follower but when imam forgets, both should make sujud as sahw.
