Biosystems Engineering (Biosystems) is a Toowoomba-based company that specialises in agribusiness technology development. Biosystems has over 20 years experience in design, prototyping and forensics analysis. Extensive networks and partnerships with research agencies, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), suppliers and importers have matured during the past three years, as Biosystems designed, built and patented the worlds first continuous vertically fed Woody Crop Harvester-Chipper. The short rotation crop (SRC) harvester can cut and chip woody biomass in one continuous operation. It has been developed in collaboration with the Future Farm Industries Cooperative Research Centre (FFI-CRC) and the WA Department of Environment and Conservation (WADEC), who maintain support on an academic research basis. Biosystems mission is to be a knowledge-based technology inventor who wants to accelerate the export of this emerging renewable energy technology. As such, it is actively engaged with Brazilian, British Columbian and Scandinavian entities to pursue partnerships from which to test the technology in its local environment. A number of the worlds largest paper and pulp corporations are implementing biomass / bioenergy strategies to capture renewable energy market share. The pre-production prototype harvester has been continues to be under extensive field validation in conjunction with The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), Australia's national science agency and one of the largest and most diverse research agencies in the world. As Latin America increases their levels of energy security, the production of renewable forms of energy, such as bioenergy, becomes ll that more important. Given harvesting represents the bulk of the production costs (some estimates have placed it as high as 70%), this highly efficient form of harvesting offers flexibility to the wood crop business model.

E-cofueling is a Brisbane-based company whose team of experienced and innovative international management individuals and alliance partners operate to actively develop and commercialize the ethanol co-fueling (EXD) technology and related Diesel engine efficiency and emissions technologies. Ongoing development of aligned renewable-based inventions will continue to enhance the attractiveness of the technology through growth of its broader intellectual property portfolio. E-cofueling was recently awarded Australian federal government grant funding with the priority milestones to identify international strategic alliances with whom to partner in advancing the development and implementation of the varying technology streams. As the inventions are particularly concentrated in and around compression engine (Diesel) technologies, E-cofueling has developed a sophisticated Ethanol Co-Fueling technology that combines several international patents, some granted, some pending, that incorporate fuel delivery, engine management control and optimisation systems to produce a purposedesigned engine performance, fuel economy and environmentally-focused tailpipe output capable of operating in all forms of Diesel engines. At this stage of development, laboratory, bench and infield tests have been conducted in Australia on a wide variety of naturally aspirated and intercooled turbo Diesel engines ranging from small through to medium and large vehicles (as would be used in urban delivery, garbage removal, buses and prime movers), in each of the fuel economy, power output and emissions related areas. Apart from the Queensland, E-cofueling has its key operating base located in Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo, Brazil, where key commercial activities and academic research has commenced. The next growth phase will include certified infield pilot trials in Brazil with partners identified through the assistance of Austrade and subsequent research entities. In parallel, longitudinal bench testing with universities with the support of state- and federal funding is the priority in order to accelerate its product release. Brazil represents the key market for e-cofueling with over 6 million Diesel vehicle awaiting an ethanol solution, to complement the governments flex-fuel program that has 11 million gasoline vehicles on the road today, while another 2-3 million will come off the production line in 2011.
