Removing and installing bumper cover

Exploded view - Saloon 1 - Cover Removing: Remove luggage compartment side trim. Rep. Gr.70 Unplug connectors to parking aid senders at control unit (on left below rear light). Remove cap nuts (accessible from luggage compartment). Unscrew combi nuts. Unscrew wheel housing liners in rear area. Remove bolts -1- on left and right of guide -5Remove bolts -8Unclip side sections of cover at guide. Detach cover. 2 - Grommet Grommets must be pushed onto studs before installing cover. 3 - Self-tapping screw 1 Nm 4 - Self-tapping screw 1 Nm 5 - Adjuster, left 6 - Clip Inserted into rear cross panel. 7 - Bumper cross member Remove cover -1- prior to removal. Removing Chapter 8 - Self-tapping screw 1.5 Nm 9 - Retaining strap 10 - Clip Insert in rear cross panel. 11 - Hexagon bolt 20 Nm 12 - Adjuster, right

Unscrew cap nuts (accessible from luggage compartment). Unscrew combi nuts. Unscrew wheel housing liners in area of cover. Screw out bolts on left and right at guide Chapter. Unclip side sections of cover on side of guide. Detach cover. 2 - Grommet Fit onto studs before installing cover. 3 - Self-tapping screw 1 Nm 4 - Left/right adjuster 5 - Clip Inserted in rear cross panel. 6 - Hexagon bolt 20 Nm 7 - Left/right guide Removing Chapter 8 - Combi bolt 1.5 Nm 9 - Bumper cross member Removing and installing Chapter 10 - Retaining strap 11 - Combi bolt 1.5 Nm 12 - Support piece Removing and installing Fig. 13 - Cross member for bumper

Note Only features which are different from the standard bumper are described here. 1 - Rear bumper The procedure for removal and installation is the same as for standard bumpers. Does not have to be removed to detach spoiler and impact protection 2 - Bolt 2 Nm 3 - Bolt 2 Nm 4 - Spoiler Bumper installed Remove bolts -2- and -5- and pull spoiler out of bumper together with impact protection. 5 - Bolt 2 Nm 6 - Impact protection Bumper installed Spoiler removed Remove bolts -3- and -8- and detach impact protection from retainers. 7 - Washer 8 - Quick-release screw 4 Nm

Installing support piece Note The support piece only has to be installed with a new bumper cover. To remove, press catch -arrow- aside and pull support piece downwards out of cover -1-. Insert support piece -2- in cover as shown and allow it to engage. The locking lug is not to be removed until the cover has been completely installed.

Releasing support piece WARNING Never release support piece following removal, as this could cause injury. Old support piece is to be left in position if old bumper cover is re-used. If bumper cover is replaced, new support piece must be clipped into bumper cover from underneath. Following complete installation of bumper cover, release support piece by pulling locking lug -arrow-. Note Pulling locking lug slackens off support piece and bumper cover is supported by cross member.

Attachment points 1 - Cover For removal, remove all nuts and bolts and pull off cover towards rear. 2 - Self-tapping screw 1 Nm 3 - Self-tapping screw 1 Nm 4 - Cap nut 4 Nm 5 - Combi nut 4 Nm 6 - Guide 7 - Grommet Grommets must be pushed onto studs before installing cover.
