Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic Small Arms

Introduction
Bordering an aggressive Manchuria, Russia fields one of the worlds strongest armies. Building on decades of combat experience in the Central Asia conflict, which rages on to this day, the Russian arms industry has always been able to supply its armed forces and foreign customers with economically priced and reasonably capable weapons. Russian arms manufacturers are renowned for producing weapons of reliability, and have also turned out some highly innovative designs in recent years.

PL-72 (Pistolet Leonova 2272) 10mm Automatic Pistol

The Leonova is a classic Russian pistol in its use of an unorthodox round. The weapon is straightforward in its design and is very handy to hold and carry. The weapon is not seen much outside of Russian security forces and has since been phased out of frontline service by the Bakunin. PB-87 (Pistolet Bakunin 2287) 5.9mm Machine Pistol

Standard sidearm of the Russian military, the PB-87 is a light automatic weapon built on a heavy pistol frame, with a close combat sight, folding forward hand grip and collapsible stock added. The weapon is light, reliable, and well thought of, though its performance against body armor is marginal. PS-89 (Pistolet Segatova 2289) 9mm Automatic Pistol

Developed to compete for the position of Russias next service pistol, it unexpectedly lost out to the costlier Bakunin, which was chosen over the PS-89 for its longer reach and automatic capability. The weapons superior stopping power and compact frame are very much appreciated and several elite units in Russia and abroad alike have purchased small quantities of the pistol. Type: 9mm automatic pistol Country: Russia Weight (Empty): 1.0 kg Length: 23 cm (Bulk=0) Action: SS Ammunition: 9x32mm fixed cartridge ball Muzzle Velocity: 590 mps Magazine: 12-round box Magazine Weight: 0.1 kg ROF: 3 Aimed Fire Range: 60 m Area Fire Burst: 3 rounds (AFV=0.25) Area Fire Range: 30 m

DK-83 (Drobovik Krylov 2283) 18mm Shotgun

In service since 2283, the venerable DK-83 was largely ahead of its time and remains comparable to most modern designs. It is a rather bulky and heavy design, and interestingly it feeds from a drum magazine holding 16 rounds. There are no plans to replace it, considering the advantage of being able to load and fire a wide range of rounds without modification as compared to automatic designs. Type: 18mm semi-automatic shotgun Country: Russia Weight (Empty): 3.5 kg Length: 105 cm (Bulk=3) Action: SS Ammunition: 18x60mm fixed cartridge buckshot Muzzle Velocity: 450 mps Magazine: 16-round drum Magazine Weight: 0.5 kg ROF: 3 Aimed Fire Range: 120 m Area Fire Burst: 4 rounds (AFV=0.75) Area Fire Range: 80 m DP Value: 0.3 x 10 Price: RUB 525 (RUB 3 for box of 100 rounds)

ASS-89U (Avtomat Segatova Skladnoy 2289 Ukorochenniy) 4.54mm Carbine

Developed in the early 2290s, the ASS-89U was intended to provide special forces and crewmen with an accurate, compact weapon. It retains reasonable accuracy despite the greatly shortened barrel and is very popular on both the domestic and export market. The weapons designation has been found very amusing by English-speaking users. AS-54 (Avtomat Segetova 2254) 8.54mm Assault Rifle

Produced in immense numbers, the AS-54 is probably one of the most successful weapon designs of this century, with a unbeaten reputation for reliability and ease of use. Now obsolete, it has long been phased out of Russian service. However, the weapon continues to circulate in quantity and unlicensed copies are still being manufactured in Central Asia and Africa. It has become something of a symbol for insurgent, terrorist, and criminal alike due to their widespread use of the dirt cheap rifle. Type: 8.54mm conventional assault rifle Country: Russia Weight (Empty): 4.2 kg Length: 98 cm (Bulk=4) 80 cm with stock folded (Bulk=3) Action: SS or bursts Ammunition: 8.54x46mm fixed cartridge ball Muzzle Velocity: 600 mps Magazine: 30-round box Magazine Weight: 0.5 kg ROF: 3 Aimed Fire Range: 600 m Area Fire Burst: 10 rounds (AFV=1.5) Area Fire Range: 300 m DP Value: 0.6 Price: RUB 270 (RUB 3 for box of 100 rounds)

AM-64M (Avtomat Mikhailova 2264 Modernirovanyi) 7.5mm Assault Rifle

The predecessor to the AS-89, its crude, simple design has given it great reliability, which is most unusual for a binary propellant rifle of its time. However, it has been considerably less successful than other Russian designs on the export market due to the increased logistical demands of binary propellant weaponry.

Type: 7.5mm binary propellant assault rifle Country: Russia Weight (Empty): 4.0 kg Length: 82 cm (Bulk=3) Action: SS or bursts Ammunition: 7.5x32mm fixed cartridge ball Muzzle Velocity: 650 mps Magazine: 50-round box Recharge Bottle: 400 aimed shots/40 bursts Magazine Weight: 0.4 kg Recharge Bottle Weight: 0.4 kg ROF: 3 Aimed Fire Range: 800 m Area Fire Burst: 10 rounds (AFV=1.5) Area Fire Range: 580 m DP Value: 0.7 Price: RUB 330 (RUB 3 for box of 100 rounds, RUB 6 for 10 recharge bottles)

AS-89 (Avtomat Segetova 2289) 4.54mm Assault Rifle

The standard Russian infantry weapon, the AS-89 incorporates a reliable optic sight and an integral 30mm G-2 grenade launcher. The weapon found a home for a time in the hands of hired mercenaries of the French Arm. In fact, this weapon became the trademark of men who were for hire, and as such is an institution in and of itself. Russian airborne forces also employ the ASS-89, a folding stock version which measures only 53 cm (Bulk=1) with the stock folded. Type: 4.54mm Gauss rifle with integral 30mm GL Country: Russia Weight (Empty): 4.0 kg Length: 73 cm (Bulk=2) Action: SS or bursts Ammunition: 4.54x21mm flechette Muzzle Velocity: 1530 mps Magazine: 60-round box with integral power cell Magazine Weight: 0.3 kg ROF: 3 Aimed Fire Range: 800 m Area Fire Burst: 10 rounds (AFV=1) Area Fire Range: 480 m DP Value: 0.5 Price: RUB 630 (RUB 3 for 60-round disposable magazine)

AS-99 (Avtomat Segetova 2299) 4.54mm Assault Rifle

A progressive development of the battle-proven AS-89, it features a newer optical sight and incorporates the latest Gauss technology, making for enhanced accuracy. Aggressively exported, many have landed in the hands of second world nations and mercenaries. Due to the vast quantities of AS-89s in service which were adopted only a decade ago, the AS-99 has met lackluster response from the Russian military. Type: 4.54mm Gauss rifle with integral 30mm GL Country: Russia Weight (Empty): 4.0 kg Length: 73 cm (Bulk=2) Action: SS or bursts Ammunition: 4.54x21mm flechette Muzzle Velocity: 1530 mps Magazine: 60-round box with integral power cell Magazine Weight: 0.3 kg ROF: 3 Aimed Fire Range: 850 m Area Fire Burst: 10 rounds (AFV=1) Area Fire Range: 510 m DP Value: 0.5 Price: RUB 675 (RUB 3 for 60-round disposable magazine)

VL-16 (Vintovka Lazernoi 16) 30- MW Laser Rifle

Essentially the license produced version of the Argentinean F-7 laser rifle, the VL-16 is issued only to units operating in zero-G environments. Obsolete by now, there are no plans to replace it, although it is been supplemented by more advanced Russian designs of late. Type: 30-01 laser rifle Country: Russia Weight (Empty): 2.0 kg Length: 76 cm (Bulk=2) Action: SS Pulse Energy: 0.3 mj Muzzle Velocity: C Magazine: 7 mj LMS cell (16-pulses) Magazine Weight: 1.0 kg ROF: 5 Aimed Fire Range: 1000 m

AB-94M (Avtomat Belnikarpova 94 Modernirovanyi) Laser Assault Rifle

Developed by the company behind the famed SVB laser sniping rifle, the AB-94M is an improved version of the original AB-94 which was plagued by reliability issues. It features toggleable pulse energy, with a lower setting for automatic fire and a higher setting for single shots. The weapon was rejected despite positive results in Russian army trials, due to its hefty price tag, and this is set to be alleviated by advances in manufacturing techniques and mass production. Type: 40-01 laser rifle Country: Russia Weight (Empty): 3.0 kg Length: 80 cm (Bulk=2) Action: SS or bursts Pulse Energy: 0.4 MJ (area fire 0.2 MJ) Muzzle Velocity: C Magazine: 10 mj FDLMS cell (25 single shot pulses/5 area fire pulses) Magazine Weight: 1.5 kg ROF: 5 Aimed Fire Range: 1100 m Area Fire Burst: 10 (AFV=1.5) Area Fire Range: 760 m DP Value: 1.0 (area fire 0.5) Price: RUB 1440 (RUB 11.25 for a disposable FDLMS cell)

RPM-64 (Ruchnoy Pulemyot Mikhailova 2264) 7.5mm Machinegun

The predecessor to the RPS-89, it builds on the same design principles as the AM-64M rifle, resulting in a rugged weapon of unrivalled reliability. Feeding from the very same binary propellant bottles has limited the RPM-64s sustained fire capability. As with the AM-64M, the increased logistical demands of binary weaponry means that the weapon has had little success on the export market. Type: 7.5mm binary propellant machinegun Country: Russia Weight (Empty): 5.0 kg Length: 92 cm (Bulk=3) Action: SS or bursts

Ammunition: 7.5x32mm fixed cartridge ball Muzzle Velocity: 950 mps Magazine: 150-round cassette Recharge Bottle: 400 aimed shots/40 bursts Magazine Weight: 1.0 kg Recharge Bottle Weight: 0.4 kg ROF: 5 Aimed Fire Range: 900 m Area Fire Burst: 20 rounds (AFV=2) Area Fire Range: 650 m DP Value: 0.8 Price: RUB 600 (RUB 3 for box of 100 rounds, RUB 7.50 for empty cassette, RUB 6 for 10 recharge bottles)

RPS-89 (Ruchnoy Pulemyot Segetova 2289) 4.54mm Machinegun

Issued shortly after the appearance of the AS-89, the RPS-89 is the standard Russian squadlevel support weapon. It incorporates the same features as the AS-89 but has a bipod, a longer, heavier barrel, and uses larger ammo drums. Type: 4.54mm Gauss SAW with integral 30mm GL Country: Russia Weight (Empty): 5.0 kg Length: 83 cm (Bulk=3) Action: SS or bursts Ammunition: 4.54x21mm flechette Muzzle Velocity: 1800 mps (area fire 850 mps) Magazine: 60-round box or 200-round drum Magazine Weight: 0.3 kg (60-round box), 1.1 kg (200-round drum) ROF: 5 (area fire 7) Aimed Fire Range: 1000 m Area Fire Burst: 20 rounds (AFV=2) Area Fire Range: 750 m DP Value: 0.5 Price: RUB 900 (RUB 3 for 60-round disposable box, RUB 11.50 for 200-round disposable drum)

SVB (Snayperskaya Vintovka Belnikarpova) 80-MW Laser Sniper Rifle

Although the Belnikarpova is the highest energy man-portable laser in service with any army, more modern designs produce the same damage at lower power levels. Nevertheless, the

SVB remains effective and is the standard service laser in use by the RFSFR where it serves as the squad sniper weapon. Type: 80-01 laser sniper rifle Country: Russia Weight (Empty): 2.0 kg Length: 83 cm (Bulk=3) Action: SS Pulse Energy: 0.8 mj Muzzle Velocity: C Magazine: 6 mj LMS cell (6-pulses) Magazine Weight: 1.0 kg ROF: 3 Aimed Fire Range: 1400 m DP Value: 2.0 Price: RUB 1150 (RUB 7.50 for a disposable LMS cell)

AGN-60 (Avtomaticheskii Granatomet Nikolayev 2260) Automatic Grenade Launcher

An obsolete heavy weapon used extensively during the Central Asian War, though since phased out of Russian service. The AGN-60 remains in service with many poorer nations and mercenaries. Though the weapon generally feeds from belts of 50 grenades each it may also fire standard, non-belted ammunition at a rate of fire of 1. All standard ammunition types are available in belted versions, including proximity fused rounds. Type: 30mm automatic grenade launcher Country: Russia Weight (Empty): 27.0 kg (Plus 10.0 kg tripod when ground mounted) Length: 113 cm (Bulk=6) Action: SS or bursts Ammunition: 30mm propelled grenade Muzzle Velocity: 400 mps Magazine: 50-round belt Magazine Weight: 15.0 kg ROF: 2 Aimed Fire Range: 500 m Area Fire Burst: 5 rounds (AFV=0.5) Area Fire Range: 250 m DP Value: Dependant on grenade used Price: RUB 1050 (Grenade prices vary by type)

AGR-20 (Avtomaticheskii Granatomet Rokosovsky 20) Automatic Grenade Launcher

A 30mm automatic grenade launcher based on lessons learned during the Central Asian War, the AGR-20 differs from most contemporary designs in that it is capable of firing either standard, low-velocity 30mm grenades (as used in modern assault weapons) as well as highvelocity, extended range grenades. The weapon and its ammunition cassettes are designed to accept either type of ammunition, with minimal modification which can be accomplished by troops in the field in under one minute. When employed in a tripod or pintle mounted version the AGR-20 is typically fitted with an electro-optical sight incorporating variable power magnification (x1-x10), thermal imaging, and a laser-designator/range-finder; the AGR-20 is capable of firing proximity-fused HE grenades, which are available in both low and high pressure versions. Type: 30mm automatic grenade launcher Country: Russia Weight (Empty): 35.0 kg (Plus 10.0 kg tripod when ground mounted) Length: 113 cm (Bulk=6) Action: SS or bursts Ammunition: 30mm propelled grenade Muzzle Velocity: 400 mps (high velocity 700 mps) Magazine: 2x 24-round cassettes, with selectable feed Magazine Weight: 7.0 kg (high velocity 10.0 kg) ROF: 2 Aimed Fire Range: 500 m (high velocity 750 m) Area Fire Burst: 5 rounds (AFV=0.5) Area Fire Range: 250 m (high velocity 375 m) DP Value: Dependant on grenade used Price: RUB 1650 (Grenade prices vary by type, high velocity rounds typically cost twice as much as normal ones, RUB 7.50 for empty cassette)

RG-3 (Ryeaktivnyi Granatomet 3) Rocket Launcher

Interestingly, the Russian military does not employ plasma weaponry. The gap in antipersonnel and armor capability is made up for by the use of the RG-3 rocket launcher, designed to fire a wide variety of rounds, ranging from fragmentation to thermobaric.
