Privately held company established in 1938 by Mr. David Klayman with the vision to design and manufacture tool for the Agricultural Industry. During the years the company has specialized in manufacturing tools and nets based on Metal. In the last three decades Meteor change its core business by focusing on developing, manufacturing and marketing polyethylene based woven nets, mainly for the use in the Agricultural Industry. The use of nets creates three major positive impacts for the growers and consumers: Dramatic reduction in the use of chemicals and pesticide which ensuring a better and greener environment. Significant reduction of costs for the grower by cutting spending on chemicals, water saving. Increasing the yield per square meter of land by 5 times, better quality of crops. Meteor is leading the local market for years by continues innovation and finding new advanced solutions for its customers needs, and by providing superior client service and guidelines before and after sell. Vertical production - raw material to final product. The manufacturing facilities currently occupy 4,500 sqm. and has about 60 committed employees. In April 2008, Rodin industrial investments bought 75% of the company industrial activities and Meteor Agricultural Nets Ltd. was established, as a joint company with the Klayman family.

The need
The Tobacco Whitefly (Bemisia tabaci) is perhaps the world's number one insect pest today, threatening agriculture worldwide. The damage caused by this tiny pest is twofold - not only can their infestation destroy individual plants by sucking out sap, but plant viruses which are transmitted by White fly and can infect and destroy many different species of crops. Prior to the early 1990's, whitefly infestations were a problem but not serious in comparison to other pests. Then, something alarming happened to the American whitefly population - they developed resistance to the commonly used insecticides. The insect was commonly referred to as a 'super bug' that could feed and breed, immune to most attempts to control it. In the mid 80s the need for a solution was urgent. Meteor has found the solution and developed few types of polyethylene based nets and won the battle with the white fly.

Thrips are very small, elongate, cylindrical, gregarious insects ranging from 1/25 to 1/8 inch (1-3 mm.) in length and 0.2 mm wide (.008") . Thrips feed on the foliage and flowers, as well as young tissues in shoot apexes where the leaves are expanding. They puncture the plant cells with their rasping-sucking mouthparts and withdraw cell sap. Feeding activities produce bleached, silvered or deformed leaves and necrotic spots or blotches on flower petals. Eventually the damaged foliage becomes papery, wilts and drops prematurely. Thrips produce large quantities of a varnish-like excrement which collects on leaves, creating an unsightly appearance. In recent years thrips are becoming a major problem to be addressed by growers world wide, until today with relatively poor success. Meteor has developed new solution called Spidernet. This innovative net blocks 75% of thrips trying to penetrate the covered area.

Meteors solution

For decades there is a constant battle between growers and insects and there is a need to find new innovative solutions to over come the damages caused to many kinds of crops including vegetables and fruit. In the mid 80s Meteor has invented a breakthrough solution which assisted greatly to win the battle. The basic idea was to cover the area of growing by a woven plastic net which will physically block the entrance of insects into growing area and at the same time will enable suitable ventilation level of air in order to achieve the desired controlled clement in the covered area. The economical and environment effects of the net turned out to be enormous. The yield of crops increased by 5 times, quality of the vegetables was better and the use of pesticides decreased dramatically.

Working in cooperation with the R&D institutes worldwide (e.g. Israeli Ministry of Agriculture, ARO center, Hanover University in Germany, University of Florida, Imida in Spain, etc.) Meteor offers its expertise in the area of plant protection throughout all the range of plant growing stages. 1985 - Developing and manufacturing the first anti insect nets with 100% success in blocking and preventing the damages caused by white fly. 1996 - Developing the first photo selective Bio-net (world wide patent). 2003 Developing and providing the most effective net to prevent the damages caused by thrips. 2008 more innovative solutions for the growers are currently tested.
