SWG Sponsoring & Fundraising AMSA-GA March 2011

Minute of the elevator Dos and Donts

Background: You want to win a sponsor for one of your projects. As you arrive at the enterprise to meet the person in charge (Marketing/PR-Departement?), you are told that the person has no time for you. Back in the elevator and about to leave, you meet the person by accident. You are in the elevator now and you have one minute time to make him/her interested in your project. Task: You have one minute time to introduce somebody into your organization (NMO/AMSA) and your project. Purpose is to make the target person interested in your project and win him/her as a sponsor/supporter. Aim: Make somebody interested in you project, get his/her contact data and the possibility for another appointment. Here are some recommendations, developed in a SWG at the March Meeting of AMSA in 2011. Pitfalls & Tipps - BE SHORT, SIMPLE AND CATCHY you got little time! - When talking about projects also tell about media feedback! Important for a sponsor! - Mention SCOPE/SCORE-projects particularly when talking to medical staff/doctors - Most of the time, you cant choose the setting/surroundings! - Try to be dressed neatly to make a good impression - You can train and prepare the minute. Write a text at home and try to talk to the mirror or a friend as training. Dos
1. Beginning (about 20 sec)

- Your Name, Name of Organization - Your Job (Medical Student) - Duration/Timeframe (Do you have a minute?) - Information about organization (politically independent, honorary, national & international projects)

Medizin ist mehr als nur ein Studium.

- Name of your project

2. Middle part (20-30 sec)

- Range of projects (CHOICE of 2 or 3) choose at least one contrary project to show how wide our range of projects is! - Information about your project hard facts!! Purpose, Mission, Target group, number of visitors/participants, Media feedback, new project? Old project? How often? - Famous citation/story about the project gets it more personal
3. Ending (10-20 sec)

- Visiting card/exchange contact data - Homepage! (www.amsa.at) - Questions? Further information? - National and international network (if not brought up in the beginning) Donts - No fill-out forms all you want is the person to be interested in your projects! - No shortcuts!! If you say e.g. AMSA, thats enough! (No IFMSA/SCOPE/SCORP/LORA/NOME thats irritating!) - Avoid negative connotations - Dont expect anything dont expect the person to know about your organization, your projects or the medical system or anything else! Dont talk too fast! Even when your under time pressure, talk quiet and clearly. Find your tempo in advance!
