Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes is currently transitioning to it's newly finished facility at 901 Portage St. (near Grapevine Furniture on the corner of Jackson Street). In this new space that's more than three times bigger - we will be able to offer more advocacy and volunteer opportunities to the community. Stay tuned for hands-on ways you can get involved in forming our community's food policies, and for information on a community-wide open house of our new facility in March.

On Sunday, Feb. 5, Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes will partner with Bread for the World to host a workshop on how you can get involved in ending hunger on a local and larger level. Bread for the World will talk to us about letter writing campaigns to elected officials about important issues, like SNAP (food stamps), the EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit), international food aid, and more. We'll also explore other actions you can take to make a difference locally and on the state level. Please join us on Feb. 5 from 2-4:30 pm at Westwood United Methodist Church at 538 Nichols Rd. Contact Kimberly at 488-2617 ext. 218 or advocacy@kzoolf.org for more details or to RSVP.

Food&FarmBillUpdate
Supercommittefailuremeansmoretimeforaction Since the Supercommittee did not formulate a proposal by their assigned date this fall, the Food & Farm Bill will go through it's normal legislative procedure over the next year. This means we have more time to let our elected officials know what we want to see in this bill. A local food group - composed of staff members from KLF, People's Food Co-Op, Fair Food Matters, Michigan Land Trustees, Michigan Farmers' Market Association, and Bronson Hospital - are planning a spring time event that will explain the Food & Farm Bill in relatable terms and offer opportunities for the public to make their voice heard. What kind of event centered around local food issues would you like to see happen in Kalamazoo? Join us on Jan. 25, from 2-3:30 pm at Bronson Hospital to help plan a springtime event. Email advocacy@kzoolf.org to RSVP or for more information. If you received this e-newsletter from a friend and would like to be added to the Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes' mailing list, click here.
