Curran Gibbons Period 1A Crucible Analysis

In The Crucible Arthur Miller has many dynamic characters. Most of which change greatly throughout the play. An example of which is John Proctor, whom goes through many tough situations. While experiencing these Millers characters change greatly and have different outlooks. Because of this Miller shows changes in his characters by giving them tough situations to deal with. Most of Arthur Miller characters have to overcome challenges in the play. These Events often change the characters outlooks on all events. For an example in the beginning of the play John Proctor is kind of a hard ass, proof of this is when he stated quote. He may seem like an asshole but is he truly being honest with himself? For an example has he always been like this or have the hanging really affected him in a way that could change him so drastically. The events in which this character has to endure must have an effect on him. Causing that character to adapt and change. Some drastic changes occurred as the play progressed. For an Example in the beginning of the play he is ok with cheating on his wife. But once all of the events started occurring he drastically changed the way he saw things. Showing that by progressing through events he changed from someone being self centered, to some who put more care into other people. As well as changing his attitude he also found more pride with in himself, Such as not signing the paper at the end and taking death instead, All of these changes are what make Proctor such a dynamic character.

Miller shows changes in his characters by giving them tough situations to deal with. By doing this he shows the characters progress throughout the play. Such as John proctors feeling for others, and himself and how they change during the story. Miller shows constantly throughout the play how easily one can change just because of surrounding issues. By involving these events he is able to get the reader to more easily understand what the character is going through.
