Guidelines to carry out activities under GTU Innovation Council

Following are brought to the notice of all the concerned heads of departments and students of B.E. Sem-VII of all branches to carry out activities under GTU Innovation Council (GIC): 1. To carry out the activities of GIC is mandatory for students. 2. Project-I in Sem-VII with 4 credits and Project-II in Sem-VIII with 8/12 credits are added in proposed schemes of syllabus of all branches. 3. Students are expected to visit relevant industries and prepare Industry defined problems (IDP) as per format available on college website: www.myssec.com. 4. In Sem-VII, student shall prepare a technical report based on above in consultation with faculty guide and submit to the department before the end of Sem-VII. 5. Concerned faculty members and heads of departments will help/ guide students to find solution to identified problems during Project-I, in Sem-VIII. 6. The students shall prepare a detailed technical report inclusive of problem and their solutions in consultation with faculty guide and submit to the department before the end of Sem-VIII.

General Guidelines for Preparations of Industry Defined Problem (IDP) For The Students of Sem-VII (all branches) IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS & DISCIPLINARY ASPECTS TO BE FOLLOWED. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Observe punctuality of time. Do as per the instruction, guidance and advice of your boss. Always inform or take permission of your boss for your activities. Always be frank and exceptive. If you need some information ask politely; be flexible enough to suit convenience of your boss. While asking to supervisors and workmen, see that you are not disturbing them. 6. Do not hesitate in asking any thing you want to know, but first try to answer your question on your own and them, clarify your doubts. 7. Keep your eyes, ears and brain agile. Try to observe, know, and understand as much as possible. Go on asking why till you understand the things completely. 8. Remember that no body is free to teach you in the industry. So, you will have to become your own motivator and teacher. 9. Be patient enough if you have to wait or approach several times to meet/understand something from a person. It is not that he does not want to attend you, but he is busy with some other important work. 10. Make note of whatever you know Small details collected may be of great use at later stage. 11. Maintain daily dairy with dates, Get it signed by your boss regularly.

The guidelines/ questionnaire, which will follow subsequently, should be thoroughly read and under stored before starting the training.

should be individually addressed in form of a

report in your own hand- writing. This report should be submitted at the end of your training to concerned staff. When this report is approved , you may start preparing Final Report. 14. Identify the problem in consultation with the training in charge at the industry. 15. Students should identify various departments according to nature of process/type of company/nature of specific discipline. 16. Focus on a particular problem studied according to their curriculum/subject/topic. 17. Line up day to day activities of a department on which he is succession. 18. Students should also get the information regarding supporting/auxiliary departments e.g. stores and purchase, maintenance, R & D, personnel, sales & marketing, estimating and costing, subcontracting ancillaries if required. Note: Concerned branch may instruct the students to make necessary changes in above format.

Information to be collected for Preparation of Report

A BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT THE INDUSTRY 1. 2. 3. Name of the Industry. Major Product / field of activity. Type of the Industry. Small scale/Medium scale/ Large Scale. Individually owned/ Pvt. Ltd./ Public Limited/ unit or division of a large corporate body/member of particular group of companies /Govt. Organization. What is the age of the Company? Whether the Company has (technical or other) Collaboration or participation with any other domestic of foreign firm. How the firm has reached to the present status? (i.e. Change in Products/ manufacturing process/ technology/ management/ expansion/ diversification etc.) Whether the present location of the firm appropriate? Why? Draw layout of all the faculties (buildings/ sheds/ structures) of the whole company. COMMUNICATION How communication takes place in the Organization. Which type of information/ instructions is given/received by paper- (i.e. formats, memos, slips etc.,) What is the channel communication? (e.g. GM-Manager-Engineer-Forman workman) of

Does the Organization has MIS? If it exists, study it in detail.

Identify & list departments/sections directly related to Production activates: Design Planning Engineering- Production Inspection & QC, & other. Identify their activities and explain them in brief. Draw organization chart for each dept. Identify and list the supporting department/ Section (Which are not directly involved in Production activities) such as. Finance and accounts stores and purchase maintenance R&D Personnel & Administration- HRD- Training. 5. The chemical oxygen demand of influent coming from plant is so high According to Gujarat pollution control board it should be about 3000. But the cod of influent is about 12000. They can reduce it up to 8000 only. To reduce it up to 3000, large quantity water is required. But it increases the cost much high.
