2 Question: - 1 Why is MIS looked upon as strategic need of management today? Answer Strategic management is the process of developing and executing a series of competitive moves to enhance the success of the organization both in the present and in the future. These competitive moves are derived from the demands of the external environment in which the firm operates as well as the internal capabilities which it has developed or can reasonably hope to build or acquire. While managers may follow somewhat different strategic management routines, a sound process should include an analysis of the current business situation, the formulation of objectives and strategies based on that analysis, and an implementation and evaluation procedure that ensures progress toward each strategy and objective. This article focuses on the formulation of appropriate strategic objectives based on a sound understanding of the internal and external environments faced by the firm. A brief discussion of implementation is included though this topic is covered in greater detail There are various strategic management techniques used in industries like how to utilize your resources optimally, the transportation issues, assignment issues. To solve these all strategic issues one has to use intense amount of support of information technology. For e.g. Logistics and transportation operations are sometimes over-whelmed with the vast amount of data available to them. So Information systems are designed to use the available data to portray meaningful information to decision makers. and to sort the data in much readable arrange able form which help in better decisions. The point is that some type of information system integration is necessary to link all of the players in the supply chain. Decisions regarding inventories, warehousing, manufacturing, and transportation are linked to a common database. This is the basis for Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.

Question: - 2 Why do big companies still fail in their uses of IT? What should they be doing differently? Answer There are many factors due to which companies still fail in their uses of IT

3 Firstly the companies dont analyze their business process effectively to know their actual needs regarding the information system. Problems in selecting vendors of various information systems. Selection should be according to the nature, size, and need of the firm. The employees doesnt know properly how to use the information system. Complex business process also creates problems sometime in collecting information. Also the reliability of the data and is analysis through the information system is not up to the mark. To overcome these flaws the company should wait study and then consider which information system should be implemented. Company by the help of external experts should analyze their business process. Vendor should be selected keeping in mind that they also educate guide afterwards their employees to make better use of the information system or to use IT. Question: - 3 What are some of the toughest management challenges in developing IT solution to solve business problem? Answer MIS-Organized approach to the study of information needs of a management at every level in making operational, tactical, and strategic decisions. Its objective is to design and implement man-machine procedures, processes, and routines that provide suitably detailed reports in an accurate, consistent, and timely manner. Modern, computerized systems continuously gather relevant data, both from inside and outside the organization. This data is then processed, integrated, and stored in a centralized database (or data warehouse) where it is constantly updated and made available to all who have the authority to access it, in a form that suits their purpose. E-Commerce- Electronic commerce is defined as the use of electronic transmission mediums (telecommunications) to engage in the exchange, including buying and selling, of products and services requiring transportation, either physically or digitally, from location to location. These two definition includes the challenges faced by management in developing IT solutions for E.g. like in the case of e-commerce an industry have to first look that all his suppliers and buyers have a information system installed or not secondly that there employees knows to use it or not. thirdly that the information is reliable or not. Also in case of MIS similar dilemma are there that whether people knows to use it whether the installed system is of proper use or worth the money spend on it. is the

4 reporting style through the information system is according to our need. What vendor to choose how to create and maintain database. Securities, authenticity, integrity of data are also key issues. These are all the challenges faced. Question: - 4 Describe how Information System can support Just In Time approach? Answer The just in time approach is a part of Material Requirements Planning Systems. This approach includes the concept economic order quantity concept. So the JIT approach generally Attempts to minimize inventory costs by producing in smaller quantities. Here the ideal lot size is 1. The single unit should move from various workstations of production until its production is completed. Timing is the key of JIT systems, as the supply of raw materials arrive from the supplier just before a production run is scheduled to begin.

So as we can see in the above statement that the order time should be very perfect otherwise the whole system will break down so information system can help in getting order like online systems for ordering than it can help in maintaining the order type and time and the coordination between various intermediaries and also the delivery time. All these things can be done by the help of information system. Dell maintained similar kind of system maintained by Accenture. Question: - 5 Explain the meaning of leadership with example and how IT supports this strategy? Answer Leadership- A process that influences other people to achieve an objective and guides the company in a way to make it more coherent and cohesive is called leadership. You can also define leadership as a process of leading people in the right direction in order to achieve goals. Leaders apply leadership attributes such as values, knowledge and skills to implement this process in any organization.So to fulfill all the above characteristics a leader must be always aware of all data in all the departments in a firm or the strategy. So IT helps a lot in these things for e.g. EIS use for the top most executives through which they become aware of all the data and business processes and strategies going on in the firm. And by help of that data an executive can take the decisions for future directions and strategies for the firm and also give proper directions to the firm. leader can also be with respect to a market leader so if a firm wants to be a market leader he has to streamline all his business processes which is also done by the help of installing ERP in the firm to increase the allover efficiency.

5 Question: - 6 If you receive a separate statement for entry account that you have in a bank what does that tells you about the bank information system. What type of statement would you expect to receive from a reengineered bank? Answer If we are receiving separate statements this determine the information system used in the bank is outdated because a centralized database is not there thats why a separate statement is prepared for which is a wastage of resources and also a wastage of time. A reengineering is needed in the bank in which a centralized database and compatible ERP should be installed so as statement for all the accounts can be prepared together. Also if a information system is there a online statement can also be provided for the customers. Question: - 6 Explain any two organizational information systems? The typical information mix presented to the executive may include financial information, work in process, inventory figures, sales figures, market trends, industry statistics, and market price of the firm's shares. It may even suggest what needs to be done, but differs from a decision support system (DSS) in that it is targeted at executives and not managers.Component includes hardware, software, and user interface and network components. Used in applications like manufacturing, marketing, finance and many more.
