AFFORDABLE PROTECTION WITH BitDefender 2009!

From the last generation Antimalware products from this Romanian developer I
reviewed Internet Security 2008 extensively in March.
Now it’s Total Security’s 2009 turn which , as extras, has system tools and
(online)back up.
The program kernel is the same in the 2009 versions, but this does not mean that
nothing has changed:
Online Backup
There is an integrated online backup available with extensive features. Nice trick:
if a file on the PC gets infected and there is copy in the backup, this clean file
automatically can be restored
Messenger Encryptie
Windows Live and Yahoo Messenger traffic can be encrypted if both parties have
BitDefender 2009. Received files were already always scanned for malware!
Netwerkmanagement
In a home(office)network the protection from all connected pc’s can be managed
from one computer. This computer serves as an update server too.

Bestandskluis
Here one can store personal data / files safely and encrypted. If the vaults are
open you can add, open and edit files. Files and data can be irreversibly
destroyed too with Bestandsvernietiging
Kwetsbaarheidcontrole
Bitdefender 2009 can show if your system is up to date. Do you miss important
Microsoft and other program’s updates van Microsoft and are your passwords
strong enough?

Laptop Modus
If a laptop is running on battery, BitDefender automatically can operate in energy
saving modus. For instance: no scheduled scans and backups will be run until

Bitdefender 2009 detects the connection of storage media like disks, usb sticks,
memory cards and will offer to scan them form malware. Added security for

Startprotectie
After installation BDF will perform a scan during startup to check if there’s nested
malware present and try to eliminate it. User can choose to perform it every time
or periodically
Vernieuwde Firewall
It now offers protection for the new Internet protocol IPv6.
New Intrusion Detection System (IDS) prematurely detects intruders and hack
attempts before it happens
If needed there are several defined connection profiles. The average user won’t
be bothered much by this firewall. The first time the network will be detected and
the user will be asked if it’s public or

trusted.
The firewall recognizes thousands of safe programs, so it won’t bother the user
with those too Interface
Renewed, clear, user friendly and available in a basic and advanced lay-out. One
can immediately notice if there are any security issues and solve them with one
click, and the user can choose the issues that BDF will monitor. If you don’t want
a daily total scan, you disabled it from monitoring and BDF won’t moan anymore
about it!

Prestaties
File scanning has improved by 60 %. BDF remembers after first scan which files
are clean and in future will compare in a database if this still is the case. This
procedure is much faster than scanning anew every time. Time is gained too by
better identification of common system files. Email scanning has been improved.
There is some boot up delay but all suites suffer from this more or less

Tune-up
Here are the tools for system maintenance.
Kopiezoeker will find duplicate files and deleting those will free up disk space
but can be dangerous too, careful use recommended!

Proactieve Bescherming
BitDefender uses two special technologies that are additional to the protection
based on the virus database.. B-Have (heuristische analyse) will intercept when a
file is opened and checks behavior in a virtual environment to detect malware.
The second one ‘Behavioural Scanner’ scans running processes in the computer
for malign actions. It can be activated in Advanced Lay-out at Antivirus / scanner
settings. In a test this year BitDefender scored fine on proactive protection

In November on AV-Comparatives, new results on this kind of protection will be

published. Proactive / heuristic protection is very important because new
malware gets more and more clever and it always takes a while before the virus
database is updated, the time it takes depends on the developer. An example: :
during the last 2 weeks I received by mail 3 quite new Trojan Horses that where
hiding in a zip attachment. I send one of them for analysis to naar Virus Totaal:

In the meantime you should have hoped that the proactive detection of your
scanner would have been good enough! Fortunately you can rely on BDF in this
matter.
In the ‘ On Demand’ test (based on virus database) Augustus 2008 BitDefender
AntiVirus got an advanced score and that is not the highest classification. On that
moment middle class thus, but still better than F-Secure, McAfee and Norman.
The score is not the only thing that is important as you can read in this blogitem.
