Overview
The offense is an adaptation of the Wing-T made famous by the University of Delaware. The offense is designed in complete backfield series, which presents multiple threats to the defense on each play. Each series is designed with a few basis plays at the primary point of attack with complimentary counter, play action pass, or option plays. Most plays have at least two complements. The use of several formations and motions increases the effort of the defense with no change of assignments for the offense.

1) Power Series (100) is the Halfback series and brings both power and finesse to the offense. Each play
utilizes lead blocking from multiple backs and pulling offensive lineman at the point of attack.

2) Belly Series (200) is designed around the Fullback who is running to the off tackle hole. All of the
backs are flowing to the play side. The quarterback will either give it to the fullback or execute the option or pass on the flank.

3) Speed Series/Jet Sweep Series (300)- is based on the full sprint motion of one of the backs across the
formation directly behind the quarterback. Once the ball is snapped, many of the core Wing-T plays can be run. The sweep plays are designed to use our speed to get to the sideline:

4) Cross Buck Series (400) is based on misdirection off of the diving (bucking) fullback up the
middle. The series attacks the defense from inside out and forces the defense to defend all four backs on each play. The series is predicated on precision and ball faking. 5) 3 Step Passing is designed to maintain ball control via short high percentage pass plays utilizing four receivers running combination routes The Wing T is a multi formation run oriented attack. The passing plays are designed to hit those areas that are covered by defenders whose immediate assignments must be to control the running plays. Play-action passes create defensive conflicts that make it difficult for these defenders to concentrate on either phase. Why the Wing-T for youth football: 1) The core of the offense relies on balance, deception, and angle blocking to gain an advantage over the defense. 2) The offense is ball control attack. During a football game, each team will get the ball between eight and ten times. The team that controls the ball by making first downs with the least risk of turning the ball over will decrease their opponent's opportunities to have the ball and increase their own chance of winning. We must control field position. 3) The attack is dependent on good execution from all eleven players and not on the superior ability of one or two players. 4) You can spread the wealth with a four back attack 5) It gives your team an identity/attitude Sources: The Delaware Wing-T: An Order of Football, by Harold "Tubby" Raymond and Ted Kempski; Belly Series in the Delaware Wing T, written by Ted Kempski; Youth Football Using The Wing-T, by Bryan L. Base Block: Blocking progression unless otherwise called: Gap, On, Linebacker

Cross Block (XB): Outside man blocks down to stop penetration and inside man blocks out. Counter: Double Team: Down Block: Backs run opposite to the called play with the exception of the ball carrier, who runs to the point of attack. Block where one lineman executes a post block and an adjacent lineman executes a down (lead) block. Stepping with your inside foot and placing your head to the inside of the defender "on" the first man to your inside and no further. Do not chase a man who further inside than on that man. Read up to the next level. Block downfield at the closest point where you will intercept the defenders (usually the safetys) path to the ball/hole Step around tail of adjacent lineman and wall off linebacker. Zone between two offensive linemen. Block man in your inside seam. QB keeps the ball in direction of the offensive call and executes run or pass option. The down block in a double team, and includes a read up responsibility. An adjustment to option blocking where the halfback blocks the option man (3) and the end stalks the contain man (5).* Drive toward point of attack attempting to get head outside and hook defensive man. If man opens up, kick him out.* Block man aligned on the line of scrimmage and between the inside shoulder and outside shoulder QB executes of one two alternatives, keep or pitch.

Post:

The inside block of a double team where the blocker protects his inside seam after contact with the defensive man. The post block is an on block by the inside blocker. The post blocker maintains his "eyes inside" and is ready to use his inside flipper to pick up any run thru or delayed blitzers. Its also very important to teach the post blocker to keep his hips tight with the pivot blockers hips. Its his responsibility! Step laterally playside and block adjacent defender. Step to block down, if defensive man on adjacent man stunts away, block backer. Block used by backside offensive lineman on play action pass (also use on Sally play). Take slide step to inside (playside) gaining inside leverage on defender and force him upfield. Release off the line with speed to drive the defensive back off the line. As the DB relinquishes his cushion, come under control and maintain your position between him and the ball carrier. Under no circumstances should you permit the DB to support through you. Block by offside lineman on defensive lineman along the line of scrimmage at the point of attack (playside). Block defensive pursuit at a point immediately beyond line of scrimmage. Mainly used by pulling guards leading through the playside hole.

Offensive Line Techniques and Blocking Rules

Alignment
All linemen will assume a two-point stance when reaching the line of scrimmage. The Center should be ready to snap the ball. We want our linemen off the ball as far as legally possible. Both guards should align their feet in a position where the tops of their Helmets will intersect the belt of the center when they are in a three point stance. The Tackles and ends will align their down hands even with the guards down hand rather than aligning their feet. This will create a straight offensive line that is off the ball as far as legally possible.

Base Blocking Rule Progression

All blocking will be Base unless otherwise called in the huddle with one of the following Tags: Belly Power Sweep/Toss Trap Down

Base blocking rule progression: Gap, On, Linebacker 1. Gap block defender in your inside gap 2. On (or Base) block defender head up. A defender who lines up from your inside shoulder to your outside shoulder is considered head up or On. 3. Linebacker block first linebacker your side Remember: G.O.L

Drive Block Progression

This block is used to block a down defender lined up On an offensive lineman. On is defined as a defender "on" the line of scrimmage (LOS) and aligned in such a way that his helmet is between the shoulder pads of the offensive lineman. A simple method to teach this is to have the linemen extend their arms straight out from their shoulders toward the other end zone, anyone between their hands is "On". 1) On Down, the offensive line snaps down into a three point stance: a) Feet (toes) even with each other, do not stagger or use a heel to toe alignment b) Head is up, back is flat, and eyes are focused on the chin of the defensive lineman 2) At the snap of the ball, the blocker takes a short 6 step (the Drive step) with the playside foot a) The first step is playside Page 19 of 90

b) He is NOT to have made contact with the defender at this point! Contact comes on the second step. c) This sets the blocker up for the power that's now about to come out of it when he drives out using that foot. d) Chest should still be over knees 3) The blocker explodes off of the drive step to make his second step (the Engagement step). a) The defender is engaged as the second foot comes down b) The lead foot should be almost directly below his head. This should result in a 90 degree bend in the knee of the back foot at this point. The front foot should also have a 90 degree bend at the knee. 4) On the second step the elbows are bent at a 90 degree angle (for maximum arm push) and with the thumbs of the hands pointed up. The offensive lineman fires out head up, knees bent, numbers over knees, eyes above foot of second step, and back flat. Hands are in pistols (semi-closed fists with thumbs up, index fingers pointed forward) and the elbows are cocked, locked, and ready to strike. a) The hands punch to fit, squeeze, and lift up. The helmet follows, nose to the armpit, simply to keep the blocker low. i) Aiming point for the hands should be at the outside edge of the outside jersey number. Pointed index finger goes to armpit. ii) Punch with both hands to stop his momentum and find the outside edge of his front shoulder pads of the chest. This should be near the armpits. iii) Squeeze the hands towards one another and lift up high on his gear. The knuckles of the hands will be under the gear and the thumbs over the top. The helmet follows the playside hand. The level of the eyes should be even with the hands when they make contact, with head to the playside of defender, nose to armpit. Any helmet contact against the defender is incidental. The helmet is not part of the blow. b) Do not extend your arms after the blow - you have no leverage that way. Extend the arms only if you feel him getting away. Until then, roll the hips under the body and drive while lifting up on the opponents gear. c) Keep the elbows in and drive with your feet. Get your body and shoulder pads into the man and do not allow him to separate. Work the hips to the playside (between the defender and the hole) d) Drive until the whistle or until your man is on the ground underneath you.

Down Block Progression

This block is used to block the first man to your inside and no further that is lined up on the line of scrimmage. We do not want to block down on more than one position to the inside. 1) The 6 drive step is to the inside at 45 towards the defender on the man next to you 2) If the defender is attacking up field the head goes in front of the defender and the far side shoulder locks into the defender below his shoulder. This forms a L that locks the Page 20 of 90

6)

defender in as he is driven into the track and away from the play and the LOS. We start teaching this by saying anyone on the LOS will be head in front. Coming towards the LOS equals attacking. The key is blocking surface and we want to maximize the area provided to us by the angle block. We want our blockers shoulder, head, and hands on the defender and driving him down the track. Never lean into a defender; keep your center of gravity low and stay under the defender as you drive him upward. Drive your hips into him so that your body stays under his. Feet constantly moving towards the defender. The linemen cock their arms at the hips with bent elbows and palms up. As they begin to make contact with their shoulder and head they strike into the ribcage and chest (far side hand and near side hand respectively) with the palms and drives upward and forward maintaining contact and force throughout the block. You dont recock and strike again instead you keep driving into the defender with the palms as you lock into the defender with the head and shoulder. The reason for this is two fold; one you want to get the defender on his toes and moving down the track and secondly you want to have a large blocking surface (palm of hands, head, and shoulder) that controls the defenders movements as he tries to break away. Never ever let your hands, shoulders, or head disengage the defender. Always work to maintain your initial placement as you drive upward into the defender and drive him down the track. If the down block is a lead block on a double team, the blocker must put his head on the defenders back and the near shoulder locks in below the defenders shoulder. The lead blocker drives the defender hard to the inside as the post man gains momentum and swings his hips into the down blocker, the two of them open a hole vertically and horizontally while gobbling up all linebackers and safeties in their path. If a defender slants away, do not chase, stay on your track to the next level (i.e., read up).

Sell fake 10 yards down field Block down inside. Get in the wedge The Wedge Fit is very important to the success of the wedge as well. It allows the unit of blockers to move as one and allow no penetration. The fit is achieved by having the exterior lineman (those outside of the center or pivot man) slide inside (not forward) and fit their inside shoulder into the inside mans ribcage as they get their inside arm up and their hand pressing on the lower back. This locks the players in as they work up field they must work to get their outside hand onto the inside blockers shoulder pad (on the near back). Wedge Bootleg if we call Wedge Bootleg, everybody blocks the same, except the QB will keep the ball. The SE will stalk block the Corner
