OR STAFF NURSE EVALUATION

The OR Staff nurse was able to assist the student nurse/me in the following task/responsibilities:

Preoperative Phase: 1. Observe the general physical status and interaction with the family. 2. Assess psychosocial behavior, sensory perceptual alterations and emotional status 3. Take and record the vital signs as baseline data. 4. Verify the undergone laboratory test results such as X-rays, CBC, and urine exams. 5. Administer perioperative medications while observing safety precautions (the 3 checks), as ordered. 6. Assess the level of anxiety and apprehension

of the patient regarding the impending surgical procedure.

history of allergies in food and in medications

8. Develop of appropriate plan of care.

9. Confirm

materials needed for the upcoming surgery Perform preoperative nursing activities such as voiding before the surgical procedure, having oral hygiene, removal of jewelries, dentures, and any piercings in the body.

the OR bed. 5. Properly position the patient and maintain correct body alignment. 6. Monitor safety precautions such as putting restraints and explained its importance in simple and understandable terms. 7. Perform aseptic techniques such as surgical handwashing and observing and maintaining the principles within the sterile field. 8. Maintain OR standards and recommended practices for the perioperative patient. 9. Preserve patients dignity and avoid undue exposure by drapes.
10. Ensure or help ensure the

equipment to be use is working properly such as the suction machine and BP apparatus.
