Welcome to the 15th edition of Chomps App Search Analytics Report!

Chomps technology powers the most advanced search engine for native and web apps across the worldwide iOS and Android markets. The metrics outlined in this report provide insight into app search trends across iOS and Android using Chomps on-device search functionality within the US during the month of December. Android and iOS metrics included in this edition of App Search Analytics refers to data collected December 1 - 31, but references previous months for trending and comparison purposes. App Search Analytics

App Monetization
3% of all December Android Downloads were paid, the same as November. A slight bump was seen in the $2.01 - $3.00 range, but otherwise price distribution was nearly identical to the previous month. Paid iOS app downloads increased, hitting 30% for the rst time ever in December. The jump was concentrated at the $.99 price point, which increased from 15.9% to 17.8% of all apps. The $1.99 and $2.99 price point each increased by .4% as well.

Best in Category
Android Games decreased their category share by 3%. Books, travel, and productivity apps each increased their share by 1%. On iOS, Games increased their share by 4%. Utilities and photography saw their shares decrease by more than 2% each, while reference apps increased their share by 1%.

December Spotlight
Current Event Related Queries
The query of the month is CHRISTMAS. Though query volume for the term was already elevated in December, queries spiked an additional 300% immediately before Christmas, as there were 4.2 million iOS and 3.7 million Android devices activated on Christmas. Chomp saw a 30% increase in search volume on that day and 20% increase between Christmas and New Years Day.

International Search Trends & Top Apps

On Android, GT Racing: Motor Academy Free+ storms to the top of the international charts, while Germans search for German apps. Christmas is celebrated around the world and is a top search term on iOS devices in the United Kingdom, Canada, Saudi Arabia, and Australia. Temple Run makes its debut as a top app.

The Chomp 55
Game, entertainment, and social networking apps dominate the Android Chomp 55 after several months dominated by utilities. On iOS, Temple Run pops into the top 10 just as it did internationally. Shopping app JunoWallet debuts at #2 as our users saved both money and time nding the perfect holiday gift for everyone on their lists.

App queries correlate with real time events. The query of the month is CHRISTMAS. Though query volume for the term was already quite elevated this month, it spiked an additional 300% immediately before Christmas. On the 25th, searches for the term decrease signicantly.
