VISION
Born on 13-Jun-44, in India, my vision is to be a life-long learner and a life-long sharer of knowledge, skills, experience and attitudes, to all those who wish to learn, by facilitating in an interactive and a joyful manner to empower transformation. In so doing, I aim to highlight the impact of human factors on the administrative, technical, commercial, and legal aspects of the Shipping, Shipbuilding, Energy (Oil & Gas) and Insurance Industries, and to emphasize the importance of a win-win approach. I strive to prevent disputes in the first place and resolve disputes should they arise, on the strengths of competence and integrity, through transparency and equity without bias or prejudice.

MISSION
I am an ex-seafarer and have a wide range of experience of over 45 years (ship and shore appointments), which includes ship-design, ship-repair, ship-maintenance, dry-docking, ship-management, statutory and classification surveys, marine and insurance surveys, risk assessment, failure analysis / diagnostic engineering, valuation of ships and fixed / mobile offshore structures, loss adjusting, average adjusting, arbitrating, mediating, lecturing and facilitating learning in a wide range of subjects including Maritime Law and Marine Insurance. These strengths help me to bring a practical approach to maximizing the impact of my facilitation in the field of Shipping, Shipbuilding and Insurance education, and help me to be effective in my practice as a Risk Management Consultant, Average Adjuster, Arbitrator, Mediator, Mentor and Learning Facilitator. I am committed to spread goodwill and understanding to make the world a better place to live in.

TECHNICAL & MANAGEMENT EDUCATION


1961-1965 Successfully completed the 4-Year A Grade Apprenticeship of the Indian Navy specializing in Shipbuilding and Naval Architecture, which is equivalent to a Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Passed the City & Guilds of London Examination in Shipbuilding, (through self-study) and obtained a 2nd Class. Attended Executive Development Programs conducted by the Bombay University at Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai and passed qualifying examinations to obtain Certificates in Administrative Practice, Personnel, Production and Materials Management. I am a Qualified Neuro-Linguist Practitioner and a Qualified Practitioner of Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) a Personality Type Instrument. (I am ENFP Type).

OTHER ACCOMPLISHMENTS (1962 to Date)


1. With a team of three other fellow Shipwright Artificer Apprentices, build four Enterprises Class Sailing Dinghies for the Royal Yacht Club, Mumbai in 1962, during off hours (after Class / Workshop Training). 2. Carried out practical damage control operations on board a Naval Ship (in a theatre of war, in 1965, whose watertight integrity was impaired consequent to a collision with a Sailing Vessel in a Darken Ship situation. 3. Carried out practical fire-fighting operations on board a Naval Ship in 1966, when polystyrene insulation caught fire and received burn injuries in the operations. 4. Carried out practical damage control operations of a major on-board Avcat oil spill in a lower deck using innovative methods to jettison the fuel, in 1967. 5. Carried out design and modification of a Whaler to represent an Aircraft Carrier in the Regatta at Cochin in 1968, which was awarded the first prize. 6. Carried out with a senior Shipwright Artificer, the repairs of four Dinghies and two Whalers at Pune National Cade Corps Unit in 1969. 7. Carried out revision of Handouts / Notes on Shipbuilding and Shipyard Technology at Shipwright Training School of the Indian Navy, where I was a Chief Instructor for Apprentices and Direct Entry Artificers in 1970.

8. Carried out multiple Slipway Operations for the first time, by taking more than one ship at the same time, on the Slipways of the Bombay Port Trust Workshops, in 1972, for which I was awarded a Letter of Commendation by the Chief Mechanical Engineer. 9. Measured the Slipways of Bombay Port Trust Workshops in order to prepare drawings and drawup preventive planned maintenance systems for the Slipways in 1973. 10. Assisted the Superintendent Hughes Dry-docks Bombay Port Trust in docking the M.V. INDIAN TRADITION along with another ship in 1974, the total lengths of both ships exceeding the length of the outer Dry-dock. This was reported in the Press as the first ever docking of two ships in excess of the Dry-dock length. For this accomplishment, a Letter of Commendation was issued by the Chief Mechanical Engineer, Bombay Port Trust. 11. Built a motor boat of a Pilot Vessel in 1975 (for which there were no Lines Plan or Table of Offsets) from the distorted hull without the aid of drawings, for which offsets were measured form the frames, the lines faired and a Table of Offsets prepared, for which a Letter of Commendation was issued by the Chief Mechanical Engineer of Bombay Port Trust. 12. Designed a lifting device for installation of Acetylene Cylinders of Navigational Buoys in the Bombay Habour in 1976, to reduce the hazard of lifting the cylinder with slings around the valve of the Cylinder, which could have lead to injury to personnel and loss of Cylinder in the sea. 13. Designed an articulated Slipway Carriage in 1976, for a knuckled Slipway, to ensure that the Carriages ride over the knuckle smoothly, thereby reducing the risk of impact damage to the wheels of the Carriages and the rails. 14. Designed a 15m Fishing Trawler of Steel and prepared plans for building 200 Vessels on a production line methodology, in a Shipyard at Goa in 1976. 15. Designed innovative methods of reducing the cost per tonne of carriage of Iron Ore, on the Rivers of Goa, by use of Sails assisted propulsion and pusher trains with Seebeckwerft Couplings, in 1977. 16. Designed a 2500 DWT Iron Ore Carrying River Barge (at a time when the maximum capacity of an Iron Ore Carrying River Barges in Goa was only 750 tonnes), in 1978. 17. Appointed as local Salvage Officer by Salvage Association (UK) in 1978 and successfully beached a ship (M.V. REGALSUN carrying swarf (scrap turnings and borings), which was on fire. This appointment was on behalf of Hull & Machinery Insurers of Lloyds of London. 18. Carried out an independent assessment of a Company manufacturing air compressors in 1979 for recommending an increase in production capacity, based on which Reserve Bank of India approval was given to import the additional machinery. 19. Carried out an independent assessment of a Company manufacturing gear wheels in 1980 for recommending an increase in LPG usage for hard casing of gear wheels, based on which approval was given to import the additional LPG. 20. Carried out the first Edible Oil Imports from Malaysia Port of Port Klang and Butterworth on behalf of the State Trading Corporation of India in 1980.

21. Estimated the Lightweight Displacement of Ship which had been scrapped, on behalf of the Indian Customs, for determining Import and Excise Duty. 22. Issued a Statement of Adjustment in respect of a General Average Claim of a Bunker Barge at Singapore on behalf of Nanyang Insurance Company, Singapore in 1980. This was the first Statement of Adjustment issued as an Average Adjuster. 23. Appointed as Sole Arbitrator by an Indian Insurer and P&I Club for apportioning blame in a collision between an Ocean Going Ship and an Inland Vessel in1981. 24. Carried out in 1982, as the local representative of Mathews Daniel International, the survey and adjustment of Indias first blow-out Claim of Jack-up Rig SAGAR VIKAS in the Bombay High Field of ONGC. 25. Re-connected the tow of Jack-up Rig SAGAR PRAGATI of ONGC, which parted in cyclonic weather while under tow from Mumbai to Dubai for leg repairs in 1984. 26. Carried out Risk Assessments, Hazard Evaluations / Risk Control Surveys and Valuation of Ships, Fixed and Mobile Offshore Structures, SBMs, Floating Dry-docks, Shipbuilding Yards and Oil Terminals on behalf of Hull & Machinery Insurers between 1985 - 1990. 27. Carried out inspection of M.V. MANGAL TARA which was stranded off Baticola, East Coast Sri Lanka, which was under the L.T.T.E. Was in custody of the L.T.T.E., and was interrogated by the Cadres, as to the intention of entering Baticola for the Survey of the Vessel. The I.P.K.F., was present in Sri Lanka during this time. 28. Was appointed as Consulting Surveyor and Average Adjuster for determining the cause of the sinking of the Statue of Lord Buddha during installation in Hussainsagar Lake at Hyderabad, in 1990, by The Oriental Insurance Company Limited. 29. Designed and conducted Seminars and Training Programmes in Risk Management, Risk Assessment, Conflict Prevention / Resolution, Leadership and Teamwork, Marine Hull / Cargo Insurances, Maritime Salvage / Towage Operations, Energy Insurance (Onshore/ Offshore Oil & Gas), Valuation of Assets, etc., at various Maritime and Insurance Training Centers in India and abroad from 1990 to date. 30. Lectured at Dubai, Teheran, Zimbabwe, Singapore, Kula Lumpur, Hanoi and Manila at various Insurance Institutes and Training Centres, on various aspects of Non-marine and Marine Insurance subjects between 1985 to 2002. 31. Appointed as Risk Management Consultant for the stranding of a Mini Bulk Carriers off Lakshadweep Island (Union Territory of India) and advised on matters pertaining to Loss Minimization. 43. Appointed as Consulting Surveyor and Average Adjuster by Future Generali General Insurance Company Limited, to opine on the aspects of liability and the quantum thereof in respect of Marine Cargo Claims from 2009 to date. 44. Appointed as Consulting Average Adjuster by Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Company Limited, to opine on the aspects of liability and the quantum thereof in respect of Marine Hull Claims from 2009 to date. 45. Appointed as Consultant by a firm of Salvors who have been appointed for the Wreck Removal of a Bulk Carrier stranded off an eco-sensitive beach in Goa, West Coast India in 2011. 46. Appointed as Risk Management Consultant for the loss of a Geo Technical Vessel, which has capsized and sunk off West Coast of India which assignment is presently in progress.
