FAMILY
Introduction
Dear students of Primary School Teachers Education Program. Welcome to unit two, Lats Talk about Family. How was your previous unit result? Do you still want to have more interesting discussions and at the same time also challenging tasks. Thats what you will have this time. Talking about family is also talking about parts of ourselves. In this unit, you will learn more about knowledge and comunication skills to provide information about family with various vocabulary and expressions related in English. By the end of this lesson, you will be able to: 1. Mention members of the family 2. Describe the relationship of one person to another person in a family tree 3. Create a short description of ones nuclear family and extended family using facts and opinions. 4. Ask for information related to family topic 5. Utilize expressions of describing people about family. 6. Create a dialogue using the expressions of making invitations 7. Create a dialogue using the expressions of asking for suggestions This unit is subdivided into two sub-units. Each subunit will focus on certain language use. Sub-Unit 1 will focus on the family member, family tree, and how to use them in communication. You are expected to be able to mention the members of your family, how they are related to each other, and how to use the vocabulary 1

taught in sentences and conversation. Once you have studied this, you may try to use it with your closed friends, I am sure it is going to be an interesting discussion. Talking about people who are closed to us is always interesting right? Sub-Unit 2 will focus on asking and talking about further information of our family members. It ranges from occupations, activities, hobbies, ages, to physical appearance. You will also learn the useful language use for talking about the topics mentioned earlier. In Sub-Unit 3, you will learn how to invite people and give suggestions to people. You will have a variety of exercises that you may choose from. The materials covered in this unit will be of benefit if you practice the following: Read carefully and understand the language function given at the beginning of each sub-unit Utilize the media suggested in the sub-unit effectively, for example by repeating the expressions given in the audio/video CD Do all the exercises given in each sub-unit systematically and continually so you can gain the best learning outcomes. Use the face-to-face meeting with the lecturer to strengthen your understanding on the given subject Work together in groups to do the dialogs or conversations. When doing the exercise or evaluation, read the instruction carefully. Dear students. Welcome to unit two. In this unit, we will learn about telling our family. By the end of this lesson, you will be able to talk about family.

Sub Unit 1

When talking about family, it is common for us to make a distinction between nuclear and extended families. A nuclear family consists of father, mother, brothers, and sisters. An Extended family includes grandmother/father, uncles/aunts, and nephews/nieces.

Situation
Today is the first day of school. The teacher asks the students to introduce their families by showing the pictures to the class. Teacher Jojo : Ok Jojo! You can tell us about your family. Show us the picture! : Good morning class! This is the picture of my family. In it, you can see my father, mother and younger sister. My father is a doctor. My mother is a house wife. My sister is still one year old.

My familys really a big family, isnt it? Now, take a look on my right side. Again from the bottom of the tree, you can see my two cousins with my uncle and aunt. Focus on Grammar
In order to avoid repetition with the name, we can use pronouns as subjects. To indicate ones possession, we can use the verb have/has or possessive adjectives. Observe the following table. One of the topics of conversations is about ones family. We could talk or ask about the family members occupations, conditions, activities, hobbies, ages, and physical appearance. In this lesson, we are learning how to use some expressions about those topics.

Youre at the airport waiting for your flight. Suddenly, you run into your old classmate. Both of you are excited to meet each other after the graduation three years ago. When you were still at school, you would study and play together with him. You : Benny? 13
