OK Humane Place Spay/Neuter Clinic works to made a better community for pets, owners and everyone
_
The OK Humane Place Spay/ Neuter Clinic is staying busy this holiday season. The clinic is open to anyone needing access to spay/neuter services and it is also available for all rescue groups. The clinic's goal is to perform surgeries that would otherwise have not been done. Pet owners who have a relationship with a private-practice veterinarian are encouraged to take their pets there. This frees up valuable surgery appointments for those pets at the most risk for having litters of puppies and kittens. Jessica R Herron, Clinic Manger said, "The sio tomcat neuter special was originally scheduled for Dec. 5 - 6, however we are extending the dates of availability. We will be having another $10 tomcat neuter special, Jan. 5 and 6." Herron added, "Since our goal, as an organization is to assist Oklahoma City in becoming a no-kill city shelter by December 2012, we are aggressively targeting the four zip code areas (73107, 73108, 73109 73119) that produces the highest intake at the Oklahoma City Shelter. The special pricing for those four zip codes will not be changing anytime soon." She concluded, "We have several grants in place to help just about pet owner that needs assistance. We also accept SNAP vouchers from Best Friends." OK Humane is a 5o1c(3) nonprofit organization that operates solely on private donations zip codes: 73107, 73108, 73109 or 73119. For a limited time OK Humane Clinic is offering a FixYour-Momma Program for pet owners living in 73107, 73108, 73109, or 73119 zip codes. People that bring in their mother dog/cat and have them fixed at the clinic's affordable price will be eligible to have the puppies/kittens fixed for free. The standard fee at the OK Humane clinic is only $30 to $60 to have an animal spayed or neutered. It is never too late to spay or neuter a pet. It is best to have female pets spayed before their first heat cycle, which commonly occurs at 5 to 6 months. Pets that are spayed/neutered have decreased or zero risk of certain types of cancer and make better companions because they are not motivated to wander in search of a mate. Over 17,000 dogs & cats are euthanized at the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter every year simply because there are not enough homes. It can cost up to $176 to capture, house and either adopt or euthanize stray an unwanted pet. The spay/neuter operation for cats and dogs is the best and safest method of pet birth control. The unfortunate alternative to birth control is the mass destruction of millions of unwanted, surplus pets. The clinic is open Monday - Friday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., at 4522 NW 16th St., in Oklahoma City. Christmas came early this year for a military veteran and his three young daughters thanks to a partnership between Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity and AT&T. Vernon McDow, a local veteran and single father of three girls, applied for the Critical Home Repair program to provide his family a safe living environment. In conjunction with Home Depot's Veterans Initiative, Habitat's Critical Home Repair program helps limited income veterans restore homes through weatherization, painting, landscaping, grab bars, ramps and minor structural repairs. "Critical Home Repair is a great service to our community homeowners to help them continue to live in a safe, healthy and affordable home," Ann Felton, Habitat's local chairman and CEO, said.

"We are thrilled to be able to offer this service to families in need, like the McDow family." Homes are selected for Critical Home Repair partnership based on need, willingness to partner and availability of volunteers and other resources. After AT&T leaders heard about the project, the firm made a sio,000 donation toward McDow home repairs. The company also donated to the fund for future use. AT&T provided each member of the McDow family with a 4G LTE Samsung Galaxy tablet and other gifts to help fulfill the family's Christmas wish lists. AT&T's contribution totaled almost $27,000. "It is our hope that Christmas will be just a little bit brighter for the McDow family this year," said AT&T Oklahoma President Bryan Gonterman. "We are proud to work with Central Oklahoma Habitat

for Humanity in their efforts to help Oklahoma families build better futures. We are also pleased to have been able to provide, particularly the daughters in this family, with technology that will help them as they work achieve their educational goals." AT&T Pioneers (current and retired employees) also provided volunteers for the renovation. They were joined by other volunteers, and active duty members of the military from Tinker Air Force Base. Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical Christian housing ministry that provides affordable housing for hard-working, limitedincome families. Habitat has built 600 new homes in central Oklahoma since 1990, all sold at cost and with no interest charged. For information, visit www. centraloklahomahabitat.org or call (405) 232-4828.

Operation Felix is a "pay what you can pay" program for all cats living in one of the follow ing zip codes: 73107, 73108, 73109 or 73119. elude both recommendations in their final report. The panel previously endorsed elimination of transferable credits and called for mandatory fiscal impact reports on all tax credits, caps on tax credits, annual audits of credit programs, routine analysis of each credit's effectiveness at permanent job creation, and expiration dates for all tax credit programs with the option for renewal. The group also endorsed a prohibition on hearing taxcredit bills during the final hectic days of the legislative session. DRIVERS WANTED

Although elimination or restriction of many tax credits programs will likely draw strong opposition from the groups that have benefited from them, Dank urged lawmakers to consider the bigger picture. "Starting right now, remind yourself every day that the only lobbyist that counts is the people who elected us," Dank said. "They may not hang around in the halls here at the Capitol, but

they are here in spirit." The text of the report was circulated to journalists and to state officials after conclusion of the final meeting of task force. The report will be used to craft legislation for the 2012 legislative session. Dank has proposed that an existing moratorium on tax credits be extended for one year.
