CLASSWORK TEXTBOOK

(Keep this in the HANDOUTS section of your notebook)

Bring your textbook to class every day. You will need it to do certain CLASSWORK assignments.

OUT OF CLASS ASSIGNMENTS

Although homework is not listed on your syllabus, you have homework every day reading. Reading a section before we go over it in class will help you understand it better. If I assign you to read a certain section, you will be responsible for knowing the material the next day. You may be given a timed assignment or quiz based upon the assumption that you know the material in that section.

CLASSWORK

There are 3 categories of CLASSWORK: I, II, and III. Each category counts 10% of your 9-weeks grade. Having a 100 average in each of these categories can dramatically bring up a low UNIT/ Chapter Test average. CLASSWORK should be handwritten (NO TYPING). Unless I say you can work together, CLASSWORK should be your own. Basically, NO COPYING. This includes before the bell rings and study time before a quiz or test. Below is a description of each category, assignment, and how to label them. Unlabeled assignments will not be counted in the notebook check which could lead to a lower NOTEBOOK grade. These are not the only assignments you will have during the semester. Other assignments will be assigned to categories as I see fit. When I take up an assignment, I expect it to be turned in when I call for it (not when YOU get ready). You will lose points for stalling. Also, assignments like vocabulary and 25 Facts are due BEFORE the quiz and UNIT TEST. If you forget it, leave it in your locker or truck, or turn it in later that day, you will lose 50 points.

CLASSWORK CATEGORY I

- VOCABULARY o You will be given certain words from each chapter to define. o Words are due when you take the chapter test. o NUMBER the words. You will lose 10 points if you fail to number the words. o Label VOCABULARY the following way:
Your name C# - V

CLASSWORK CATEGORY II - OUTLINES & SECTION ASSESSMENTS - These assignments are based upon specific sections. o If I assign a section to read prior to class, these assignments will have a time limit. If you do not read the assigned section before class, more than likely you will not finish and will lose points accordingly. o See OUTLINE handout for instructions on how to outline a section.

SECTION ASSESSMENTS Only answer the questions under Key Terms and Main Ideas. You do not have to write the questions but you must answer in complete sentences its your choice. Please dont be the person who always asks, Do we have to write the questions? or Which questions do we do? If you answer in complete sentences, the rule is I should know what the question is specifically asking based upon your answer. For example, do not begin an answer with the word it before you let me know what it is.

Label SECTION ASSESSMENTS the following way: Your name C#, S# - A

CLASSWORK CATEGORY III FUNSHEETS & 25 FACTS o FUNSHEETS (We can all use a little fun!) Fun sheets can be actual worksheets or from the SmartBoard. Follow directions in class. Label FUNSHEETS the following way: Your name Chapter #, Section #

o 25 FACTS This is simply a list of 25 facts from the Unit we are covering. Facts are due on the day of the UNIT TEST. Facts must be in complete sentence or question form. Incomplete
sentences will not count.

Title of Funsheet if applicable

Facts must be hand-written. Number facts. You will lose 10 points if you fail to number the facts. Label 25 FACTS the following way: Your name

Unit # - 25F

NOT DOING/ TURNING IN CLASSWORK Late assignments I do not take CLASSWORK late (unless you are absent). If you are in class and do not turn in an assignment you will be given a zero and not be allowed to make it up.

ABSENCES & CLASSWORK

I post all assignments we do during class and let you know which one(s) I took up. Please consult the board (the one that reads If you were absent please read) before you ask me What did you take up while I was out? We will set up a time frame to make up those assignments. If you do not turn them in by then, you will be given a zero. In the case of extended absences, we will work out a make-up plan.

However, the clock starts ticking on the day you return to school, even if you are absent the next day or two or week.
