MALS-11, EMARINE COMMUNICATION TOOL (SEE FLYER ON PG 10) EMARINE is here at MALS-11. EMarine is our official organizational communication tool. It was developed to deliver readiness information to Marines and those who support them. This includes other service-members, civilian Marines, Family Members, and friends. Per MarAdmin 499/11, EMarine is being implemented throughout the entire Marine Corps, providing a consistent and familiar tool for you to use as you move from one unit to another. eMarine can be customized for your information needs and preferences. Please see flyer on pg 10 for Registration Procedures. BOOK SIGNING - SATURDAY AT THE MCX A book signing that will be taking place tomorrow at the MCX. Chief Chris Kyle will be at the MCAS Miramar MCX, Book department tomorrow (Saturday 14 January), 1100-1300. US Navy SEAL Chief Chris Kyle (USN Ret.), Author of American Sniper, has the most confirmed kills (255) in the recorded history of the United States military, any branch, from 1776 to present. MCAS MIRAMAR OWC, FIRST ANNUAL FLIGHT LINE DASH On Sat, Jan 21, 2012, the MCAS Mirarmar OWC invites the San Diego Community to experience our first annual Flight Line Dash. This is a USATF sanctioned 10K Run and 5K Run/Walk with a 1K kids run, the "Aviator Scramble!" The event will take place alongside the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Flight Line and around the beautiful hills of the open space and fish pond on base. The purpose of this event is to raise funds to help provide educational scholarships to our military dependents. The military members and their families are an integral part of the community here in Southern California. SPACE CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS NOW AVAILABLE: www.militarychild.org/child-student/space-camp-scholarship/ The Military Child Education Coalition has created a Space Camp scholarship program in memory of, Bernard Curtis Brown II. Bernard was the 11 yearold son of Chief Petty Officer and Mrs. Bernard Curtis Brown, who died tragically Sept. 11, 2001, when the hijacked airliner on which he was a passenger crashed into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. At the time, Bernard was on his way to California to represent his school at a National Geographic event. Space Camp is a five-day program that shows youngsters to experience first-hand what it takes to be an astronaut. Activities include simulated Space Shuttle missions, training simulators, rocket building and launches, scientific experiments and lectures on the past, present, and future of space exploration. There are three Space Camp locations: Huntsville, Ala.; Mountain View, Calif.; and Titusville, Fla. Tuition ranges from $550 to $875 and includes meals, lodging and program materials, but not transportation. Eligibility: Student applicant must first meet be: The child of a Military Member on Active Duty or Mobilized Guard or Reserves; OR The child of a Military Member who died while serving on Active Duty or Mobilized Guard or Reserve Status; AND Enrolled in grades 6 through 9. MILITARY FAMILY PROJECT Military Family Projects has a new one hour e-learning program, Duty to Care: You Make a Difference, available on the Zero to Three website. Created for early learning professionals, the program is divided into three 20 minute modules and addresses what infants and toddlers need to develop well and ways to support military children when a military parent is deployed, injured, or the loss of the Service member. At least one $1,500 scholarship will be awarded to a student at each commissary. To be eligible for a scholarship, the student must be a dependent, unmarried child, no older than 21 - or 23, if enrolled as a full-time student at a college or university - of a service member on active duty, reservist, guardsman, retiree or survivor of a military member who died while on active duty or survivor of a retiree. Eligibility is determined using the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System database. Applicants should ensure that they, as well as their sponsor, are enrolled in the DEERS database and have a current military ID card. The applicant must also be planning to attend or already attending an accredited college or university, full time, in the fall of 2012 or be enrolled in a program of studies designed to transfer directly into a four-year program. THE GREAT ESCAPE FAQS What is The Great Escape (GE)? The GE is the enlisted rec center aboard Miramar. The facility is open to all active duty enlisted service members. What are the hours? The GE is open 365 days a year. We are open Sunday 0945 2300 (during football season), Mon 1100 2300, Tues Thurs 1100 2400 and Fri and Sat 1100 0100, We are open all holidays. What is in The GE? The GE features a variety of activities including but not limited to: Gaming Rooms (X BOX 360, PS 3, Wii, Kinect, Nintendo 64 and a game cube and a lot of games), 6 tournament size pool tables, ping pong tables, foosball and air hockey, 2 lounge areas with 60 TVs, and a movie room with 132 screen, 18 leather recliners and bean bags.
