EVOLUTION OF TOWN PLANNING LEGISLATION(ACTS) IN UK Originated from the industrial and agricultural
revolutions that began in 1700s FIRST SANITATION AND PUBLIC HEALTH ACT OF GREAT BRITAIN 1840 THE PUBLIC HEALTH ACT OF 1875 HOUSING & TOWN PLANNING ACT 1909 HOUSING & TOWN PLANNING ACT 1919 TOWN PLANNING ACT 1925 LOCAL GOVERNMENY ACT 1929 TOWN & COUNTRY PLANNING ACT 1932
Created two tier hierarchy of plans. A broader & flexible plan at strategic level more certain/detailed plan at local level.
The provision of structural plan & local plan was added. Structural plan: intended to translate national, regional, economic & social policies into local context. Local plans: are of 3 types.
To consolidate certain enactments relating to town and country planning with amendments to give effect to recommendations of the Law Commission.

Local Development Documents (LDDs) are produced by the Local Planning Authority (LPA) and in accordance with Regional policy documents
LDDs form the Local Development Framework (LDF) for future development and planning decisions
The LDF is comprised of the Development Plan Documents (DPDs), Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) and Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs)
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
LPAs required to prepare Statement of Community Involvement in preparation of LDF
Public and stakeholders have opportunity to comment and input during preparation of Development Plan
Community consultation and involvement: a key facet of both forward planning and determination of applications
SCI sets a clear framework of how public engagement will take place during preparation of plans and how public views will be considered in determination of applications
