United Parcel Service, Morristown, NJ Programmer/Analyst

September 1996 a" July 2008

Responsibilities & Accomplishments: Heavily engaged in effort to consolidate independent applications in Internation al Billing Systems into one cohesive system. Completed an intensive system analy sis effort where every program and DB2 table that impacted the IBS was charted a nd created flowcharts that defined the system flow for other application teams a nd users. Successfully re-engineered a major COBOL/CICS system that monitors aircraft engi ne performance, added significant user enhancements, and then re-platformed it i nto VB6/Oracle. Increased data point capture of engine related trending data, leading to high co st savings for engine maintenance. Users are now better able to predict when en gines will need service. Condensed smaller, user created applications for above named system and rolled b usiness logic into one application. These efforts led to enhanced supportabilit y and no flight delays were recorded for this application during my tenure. Led data analysis effort to diagnose user issues and application errors for syst em that handled weight and balance of UPS aircraft. One yearas worth of user ca lls were ranked and divided into separate categories, based on training issues, actual application errors, etc. This effort led to creating a hierarchy of what changes needed to be made in both the logic of the application and flow of user support. These efforts dropped the amount of flight delays caused by this syste m from 56 in 2002 to 3 in 2004. Was lead programmer in the release of above named effort (VB6/ORACLE). Extensiv e application changes made during this release. No back-out of any of these cha nges was ever required. Main change was cataloging user transactions to verify each data change in our database to track user entry errors. Wrote training documentation for the system that weighed containers before they were loaded onto an aircraft and then messaged pertinent container info to the w eight and balance system. Also supported code for the scale system. Training a nd support of this application required user interaction at many gateways across the country. Acted in a business analyst capacity to gather user requirements and enhancement requests from gateways across the country and then rate them in order of import ance for enactment into the system. Was a member of a support team that maintained the companyas aircraft part wareh ousing system. The system included hundreds of COBOL modules and JCL jobs, ther eby requiring advanced JCL/COBOL/CICS/VSAM coding abilities. Ad-hoc data reques ts that were usually needed do to a system data issue were required frequently. This position required a lot of user group interaction to understand the proble ms they were having. Completed a leadership roll in a one year effort that focused on the re-platform ing of UPSas Aircraft maintenance warehouse system from VSAM to DB2. Coordinate d meetings to discuss various options and facilitated several meetings with pote ntial vendors. Once a vendor was identified, led an extensive Proof of Concept e ffort for the tool that they had developed to translate VSAM data into DB2 table s. Throughout career, have been heavily involved in system support and user interfa cing on several critical airline applications. In 11 years, have never had a ch ange backed out of production due to programming errors.
