Greetings! The CHE- College Student Council is a democratically constituted student government of the College of Human Ecology, University of the Philippines Los Baos. The Council has been at the forefront in organizing the student body and conducting activities towards a holistic development through the partnership with the different units of the College namely: Institute of Human Nutrition and Food, Department of Human and Family Development Studies, Department of Community and Environmental Resource Planning, and Department of Social Development Services. Along with its college-based student organizations, it has been maintaining an active role in rendering service to the UPLB community and its constituents. In line with the Colleges campaign towards a cleaner and greener environment, we will be having a Rent-a-Bike-for-Life Bike for the Environment, Bike for a Healthy Lifestyle. It is a bike campaign wherein we will be promoting biking in the campus by renting out bicycles to students at an affordable price. The launching of this project is on February 14, 2012. This launching will be incorporated in the other project of the CHE Student Council which is the Green Valentine: Give Love for Life and Environment during the UPLB Feb Fair Week. This will compose of different exhibits in the CHE student organization booths to promote Reduce, Reuse and Recycle for a greener environment and healthier lifestyle. There will be booths to promote organic healthy foods and handicrafts from indigenous natural and recycled materials. Also, the two month proceed of the bicycle rental fee will be donated to the victims of calamities especially during Typhoon Sendong. 5% of the proceeds per month will be saved and be part of the Student Councils Calamity and Emergency Fund to immediately help our fellow men during times of calamities or emergency situations. In line with this, we would like to solicit your generous contribution to help us realize the success of our activity. We have attached the possible modes of sponsorship in support of the program. With this big act of kindness, you will be able to revitalize the spirit of environmental stewardship and advocacy for a healthy lifestyle in the University. We wish to hear from you on or before February 6, 2012 in time for the preparation of the advertisement materials for the launching. We still welcome sponsorships until March 1, 2012 for us to purchase additional bicycles for our project. For further details, you may contact Alelie at 0917-8531508/ Daryl Deanon at 0917-3767085. ABOUT THE EVENT

Rent-a-Bike-for-Life
Bike for the Environment, Bike for a Healthier You

University of the Philippines Los Baos is on a verge of constant change. From re-routing of Public Utility Vehicles to the outer roads of the campus to implementation of the litter-free campus and beautification and greening of the vacant spaces, you can really say that times have changed in this University. These are some of the main programs and projects that promote a green University. Whether for health, sports or leisure, bicycling nowadays has taken a lot of interest from students and staff of the University. There are also some people who want to cut costs on transportation expenses. As part of a sustainable fund raising activity of the student council, we will be having a Rent-a-Bikefor-Life which aims not only to generate funds but also to advocate a healthier lifestyle and greener environment. We will also extend our project to the University level specifically through the studentry by launching a BIKE CAMPAIGN on February which will tackle about its benefits and responsible biking. A Tour de LB Bike Journey 2012 will also be conducted in July. We will be the 1st College Student Council to spearhead this campaign in support of the vision and advocacy of the University administration towards being a model University with eco-friendly environment. Launching this campaign does not only promote bicycling around campus, but also helps reduce the emission of harmful gases around the university. It also promotes a healthier lifestyle, knowing the fact that bicycling is good to tone our muscles and builds our stamina. We hope to involve Gawad Kalinga community in Sitio Maligaya, Brgy. Tuntungin Putho, Los Baos, Laguna by providing them possible sources of income specifically by employing them for the maintenance and repairs of the bicycles. Eventually, if the activity generates the interest and support from the UPLB community, we hope to involve more other units and do it in a larger scale.
