Hosted by the Wilmington Police Department Crime Scene Investigation The conference will be held at the Wilmington Hilton Riverside, across the scenic Cape Fear River from the Battleship USS North Carolina. The room rate is $82 per night, which includes parking. Make your reservations by 02/28/2012 to guarantee this rate. Mention the NCIAI or if you are making reservations online, put IAI in the Group/Convention box. If you want to come a day early or stay a day late, you may not be able to make the reservation online. If that happens just call the hotel directly Monday-Friday between 9am and 5pm (910) 7635900 and ask for Reservations. They will check availability of the discounted rate. Check-in time is 4 pm and check-out time is 12 noon. Break-out sessions will be held in which you will have to choose which one you want to attend. The workshop will have a limited number of spaces available. A sign up sheet will be in the registration area at the start of the conference. Dont forget the Photo Contest, too! Attached you will find an agenda, however, here is a brief overview of the conference: The conference will begin at 1 pm on Tuesday, March 20th. Wednesday, March 21st the Hands-On workshop will be held at the Wilmington PD CSI lab and the participants will learn or be refreshed on procedures for processing using glue fuming, dyes, chemicals, florescent powders and photographing the results. If you plan to participate in this workshop you will need to bring a digital camera. Others will be able to choose between Logical Latent Analysis, in which this class concentrates on the analysis of level one detail in order to maximize the effectiveness of the search. This is not a latent comparison class and side by side comparisons will not be conducted. Participants will be asked to concentrate on the aspects of comparison that take place before they use magnification. Or, a Cold Case Forum and Presentation, in which Detective Lee Odham (Wilmington PD) will present and monitor a forum for cold cases. So, if your department needs new investigative ideas or a fresh set of eyes and ears, bring your cases to share. Wednesday afternoon Assistant District Attorney Tom Old will present information on the NC Forensic Science Act of 2011 be ready with plenty of questions. The business meeting and elections will follow. The banquet dinner will aboard the Henrietta Riverboat. Thursday, March 22nd, the two sessions will be held simultaneously. Yes, youll have to choose.
