Arteries Cortical Branches Anterior Cerebral Artery Terminal of internal carotid artery Middle Cerebral Artery Continues from internal carotid artery Posterior Cerebral Artery Formed by bifurcation of basilar artery passing laterally around crus cerebri
Passes laterally to enter the stem Anastomoses with posterior communicating artery
Approaches the corresponding artery on opposite side connecting via anterior communicating artery
Posterior ramus of lateral sulcus Continues on lateral aspect of midbrain to course on medial and inferior surfaces of temporal and occipital lobes
Supply lateral parts of orbital gyri, inferior and middle frontal gyri, most of precentral and postcentral gyri, inferior parietal lobules, superior and middle temporal gyri
The branches extend onto lateral surface of hemisphere to supply parts of inferior temporal gyrus, occipital lobe and tentorial surface of brain
Continue posteriorly on superior surface of corpus callosum The branches are distributed to brain stem, choroid plexus of 3rd and lateral ventricles, cerebral cortex -Caudal half of thalamus
Central Branches
Posterior Communicating Artery supplies: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Hypophysis Infundibulum Tuberal region of hypothalamus Anterior and medial part of thalamus Mamillary bodies 6. Subthalamus 7. Medial region of midbrain tegmentum 8. Crus cerebri
Supply
Passes onto superior surface of cerebellum -Deep cerebellar nuclei -Choroid plexus of 4th ventricle
-Pyramid -Tuber -Flocculus -Parts of inferior surface of cerebellar hemisphere -Portions of dentate nucleus -Choroid plexus of 4th ventricle
-Inferior vermis (nodule and uvula) -Cerebellar tonsil -Inferolateral surface of cerebellar hemisphere -Parts of choroid plexus of 4th ventricle
