what is MSC? Mobile Switching Center (MSC) Combines of MSC-S & M-MGw Responsible for: Routing traffic and Signaling information in the network Some functions: Call control management (Registration,..) Mobility management (Location update, handover, call routing,)

Circuit Switch Overview-Cont

What is GMSC? Gateway MSC (GMSC) Interface with fixed network (PSTN/ISDN) Retrieve information form HLR for location of sub. Route all calls to appropriate MSC/VLR Also perform charging for mobile terminate call

Circuit Switch Overview-Cont

What is HLR/AuC? Home Location Register (HLR) Centralized database of subscriber
Administrative information Subscriber registration Any supplementary services

Authentication Center (AuC)

Ciphering User authentication
