Spring Break 2012 in Belize!

Dr. Sally Beisser and Dr. Shelley Fairbairn will take 10 students to San Pedro Island in Belize for a study abroad practicum experience in Holy Cross Primary School over spring break 2012.

Rooms and flights are on hold pending final student deposits. You will need a passport. No visas are required. You will spend approximately 3 days in Holy Cross Primary School (in walking distance) with other events planned for exploration and leisure. See schedule below. You will wake up each day on the Caribbean Sea. Beautiful. Contact sally.beisser@drake.edu or shelley.fairbairn@drake.edu ASAP if you want us to save you a space. We can take 10 students. You will need to make a $100 deposit to save the air fare which goes up quickly.

Here is our planned agenda: SAT March 17th: Travel Day to Belize y Depart home airport and arrive International Airport in Belize City, then transit on a small airplane to San Pedro Island. y Welcome meeting upon arrival and unpacking. y You will stay at the Blue Tang Inn See http://www.bluetanginn.com SUN March 18th: Get Organized Go Snorkeling y Continental breakfast at Blue Tang Inn y Morning sail on the Sirena Azul Sailboat to a Marine park to Snorkel (included in Drake package price) in the Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley (this is fun Sally has done it!) y Drake student meeting to get ready for the week MON March 19th: Practicum at Holy Cross y Continental breakfast at Blue Tang Inn y Time in classrooms with elementary students and teachers at Holy Cross School y Lunch at School y 3:30 Group meeting back at Blue Tang Inn to debrief the day y Dinner at Leisure TUES March 20th: Practicum at Holy Cross y Continental breakfast at Blue Tang Inn y Time in classrooms with elementary students and teachers at Holy Cross School y Lunch at School y Dr. Beisser will present an after school workshop for teachers at Holy Cross School (~1 hr) y 3:30 Group meeting back at Blue Tang Inn to debrief the day y Dinner at Leisure

WED March 21st: Practicum at Holy Cross-- Sunset Sail y Continental breakfast at Blue Tang Inn y Time in classrooms with elementary students and teachers at Holy Cross School y Lunch at School y 3:30 Group meeting back at Blue Tang Inn to debrief the day y Dinner at Leisure y 4:30-7:30pm Sunset Sail on Sirena Azul (included in Drake package price) THURS March 22nd: Exploration Day y Continental breakfast at Blue Tang Inn OPTIONAL TOUR (pay $230 extra) All Day Cave Tubing and Zipline including Lunch (Sally has done cave tubing and zip lining and lived through it! FUN) y OTHER OPTIONS: Explore the island by bicycle or golf cart, read a book by the pool or beach, swim, get a massage, go shopping, or run on the beach, catch a ferry to Caye Caulker, etc. y Dr. Fairbairn will present an after school workshop for teachers at Holy Cross School (~1 hr) y Dinner at Leisure FRI March 23rd: Mayan Ruins Day y Continental breakfast at Blue Tang Inn y All day Lamanai Mayan Ruins Trip including Lunch (included in Drake package price) y Dinner at Leisure SAT March 24th: Check out and Fly Home y Continental breakfast at Blue Tang Inn y Taxi Transfer to San Pedro Airstrip y Tropic Air Flight from San Pedro to Belize Int'l Airport BZE y Board flight for USA and return home
