Like the Stars Program Ideas


Idea #1: Musical Program Steadfast & Immovable
Put on one of the Steadfast & Immovable musical program written by Jenny Phillips, based on the 2008 youth theme. A free script and rehearsal songbook can bee downloaded from the Free Downloads page on www.jennyphillips.com. The programs include 5-6songs, readers, and two optional video clips. There is also a simplified script available if you need a shorter program or dont have a lot of singers in your ward/stake. *Optional instrument parts are available on jennyphillips.com including violins, viola, cello, flute, and guitar.

Idea #2: Like the Stars Slide show


Create a slide show or presentation to the song Like the Stars that features photos and/or video of the young women in the ward or stake working on personal progress activities, at young women activities, etc. Have 2-3 young women give a short talk or testimony about how personal progress and/or the young womens program has strengthened their testimonies, and then play the slide show presentation.

Idea #3: Personal Progress Stars


Feature the personal progress stars in your ward: girls who have finished their personal progress program. Have each of them give a short, 90 second talk on something they learned from doing the program. Play or have the girls sing the song Like the Stars. You could also feature the rising stars, the new beehives.

Idea # 4: Star Testimonies


Opening Song: Steadfast in You Introduction to the 2008 Youth Theme: Mosiah 5:15 Talk by Leader: Talk about five main points of a testimony: 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) God is our Father in Heaven Jesus Christ is His Son and our Savior Joseph Smith is a prophet of God The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the Lord's church We have a living prophet on the earth today

A strong testimony, rooted in these five areas, makes us steadfast and immovable. Use five points of a large star as a visual aid. Explain that in order to gain "star testimonies," we need to develop faith in each five areas. Discuss each of these five points. You could also discuss how the young womens program and personal progress is designed to strengthen our testimonies in the basic principles of the gospel. Youth Testimonies: Assign five or 6 young women to bear their testimonies on the 5 main points listed above (give them the points above). You could also ask them to talk about how personal program or the young womens program has strengthened their testimonies. Closing Song: Like the Stars (perform live or play the CD)

Idea #5: Ticket to the Stars


This is a fun way to invite the girls and their parents for a fun and inspiring evening. Put on the program Steadfast & Immovable during the evening. You could serve astronaut food and decorate the cultural hall or young womens room like a space shuttle. You could use models of the solar system as centerpieces or decorate the room with hanging planets and stars.

Idea #7: StarsSkit & Program


Purpose: To introduce the young women values and their importance in a fun way. Before the Skit You may choose to have 2-3 young women give a short talk on the theme for 2008, what the young women values mean to them, etc. Or, you could have 7 girls each assigned to one of the young women values and give a 90 second testimony on that value and something they have learned about it. How the Skit Works: Choose 7 girls to participate in the skit. Each of the girls will represent one of the young women values. Have each of the girls wear sunglasses and dress in the color of their value with a sign on them that has their value on it. They will also each have props to go with their value. Create a runway in the cultural hall where the girls will walk while their value is read--pretending as if they were in a fashion show or a famous person being introduced. The runway could be a red carpet, or just a taped off area. You could decorate the outline of the taped off area with white Christmas tree lights or crepe paper. Costume/Prop Suggestions: Faith (white): An exercise head band and a white t-shirt. She can do jumping jacks or run in place when the narrator says she is very active. Divine Nature (blue): Could wear a princess hat or a crown. Individual Worth (red): Could hold a wrapped gift box. Knowledge (green): Can carry some books (including the scriptures). Choice and Accountability (orange): Any orange clothing and accessories. Good Works (yellow): Could carry some tools (i.e., hammer, broom, wrench, etc.) Integrity (purple): a purple cape, or a box that says truth she could stand on. Or a torch that says truth.

Narrator or Speaker #1: The mutual theme for 2008 is found in Mosiah 5:15: "Be steadfast and immovable, always abounding in good works. Narrator or Speaker #2: There are many types of artificial lights that man can make in this world. But they all can fade very quickly-flashlight batteries die, power lines go down, light bulbs burn out, and fire dies or are snuffed out. But the stars, were made by God, and they obey Him-shining steadfastly and strong. But what of man? God put a light in every one of us. And that light inside of any one of us, means more to God than the billions of massive stars in the sky combined. His most sacred and loved and holy creation was designed to be a holder of His light. We were designed to be like the stars. To shine-not by any power or design of man, but to shine with the power of God, steadfast and constant-a mighty light to all the world. Narrator: Straight from Holywood tonight we have the 7 most famous stars in the world with us for their world premiere private screening of the new movie Like the Stars. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Faith. (audience claps). Faith does not have a perfect knowledge of things, but she always has hope for things she cannot see that are true. Faith is very active. She knows that being tested and stretched are good for her, and she exercises daily. She knows that she would be dead if she did not work-so she is constantly moving and getting stronger. Faith just released her newest exercise video entitled, "Try Me: Exercising with Faith!" Divine Nature is of royal birth. Her Father is a king in a kingdom far away, but she communicates with Him morning and night and hopes to return back to His kingdom someday. She has many divine qualities and is continually developing her talents and strengthening traits such as kindness, obedience, and love. She believes in the great purpose of womanhood. Divine Nature won an oscar this year for her role in the 2008 remake of "Cinderella." Individual Worth knows she is on a mission. She is always finding gifts everywhere she looks, and she is using those gifts to fulfill her life long mission to become like her Father. She knows that true confidence comes from pleasing the Lord, not the world. She believes in herself and is always striving to become better. Individual Worth is most well known for her leading role in the movie "Mission Possible." Her motto is "remember the worth of souls is great in the sight of God." Knowledge As a seeker of learning, Knowledge is constantly reading and studying. She often invites her good friend "Faith" to study with her. Knowledge is always found seeking new skills. Knowledge is most famous for her roles in documentaries, home improvement shows, and movies featured on the history channel. Her motto is, "Learn something new everyday!"

Choice and Accountability is very selective about the movies she stars in, the parties she goes to, and the clothes she wears. Choice and Accountability knows that she controls her destiny by each of the little choices she makes. In her own words, Choice and Accountability has said, Sometimes we have to decide between what is easy to do and what is right to do. In these moments, I remember who I am, why I am here, and where I want to go." Choice and Accountability knows that choices are like dominoes. One choice triggers consequence after consequence, like a row of dominoes toppling over because the first one fell. Good Works Good Works has a passion for building and working and helping others. She spends every waking hour possible doing her father's work. The paparazzi have often found Good Works at homeless shelters, rest homes, and with the widowed and the sick. She does her good deeds willingly without expecting to be rewarded or recognized. Good Works has learned that an excellent remedy for loneliness, sadness, or self-pity is to forget yourself and reach out to help others. She has many nicknames, including "charity," "love," and "service." Her movie career is full of countless "supporting roles"-most recently with Captain Jack Sparrow in "Pirates of the Care-A-bout-You." Integrity is the most honest star in show business today. Integrity's greatest qualities include honesty, sincerity, truthfulness, keeping her promises, punctuality, fairness, and justice. What Integrity thinks is reflected in what she says, and what she says is reflected in what she does. Her thoughts, speech, and actions are always in harmony with her values. This takes a lot of courage, but Integrity is never afraid to do what is right and to stand up for what she believes. Although she was offered a lot of money, Integrity refused to star in the 2005 hit movie, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Liar." After the Skit: Narrator or Speaker #3: In a world that is dark and confused, we can become bright and shining stars like faith, divine nature, individual worth, knowledge, choice and accountability, good works, and integrity. We thank these stars for joining us today for the private screening of their upcoming movie Like the Stars. Decoration Ideas
Idea # 8:Star Bouquets
What you need for each bouquet: -Large tin can, emptied and cleaned out -Scrapbook paper (look for paper with stars, but any pattern will work) -Colored cardstock -Ribbon -Wooden sticks Directions: Collect large tin cans, emptied and cleaned out. Print the stars below out on colored cardstock, and then cut them out. Glue 2 matching stars together with a wooden stick in the middle. Decorate the star Create as many stars as you need for each bouquet. Glue the scrapbook paper around the tin can and tie with ribbon.. Make the sticks varying heights. You could put styrofoam or beans in the can to hold the stars in place. You could do stars with the value colors and write the value names on them if you want.

Idea # 9: Napkin Holders


Print out this page on yellow, silver, or other colored card stock. Cut out the stars and the rectangular strips. Tape the rectangular strips in a loop, and then glue or tape the star onto the loop. Roll up a napkin and stick it in the loop.

Idea #10: Value Stars


Decorate the room with stars in the color of the values (for example, white stars=faith, green stars=knowledge). You can write the value name on the stars if you want. You can hang the stars from the ceiling, attach them to the walls, make centerpieces with the stars.

Idea #11: Star Garland


Cut out star shapes on silver or gold metallic cardstock. Punch a hole in two ends. String the stars together with ribbon. You could hang large ones up in the room or lay small star garland on the tables as a table runner.

Idea #12: Stars in the Sky


String small white Christmas lights across the cultural hall where you are having dinner so that it looks like stars in the sky. You could hang a moon and star ornaments from the lights. (Search for item #IN-2/712 on www.orientaltrading.com to find great star ornaments for only .50 each. Note their colored star ornaments too).

Idea #13: Make Star Necklaces or Bracelets
A great reminder to them for the rest of the year to be steadfast & immovable like the stars. What you need: Beads: Inexpensive plastic beads can be bought at your local craft store or online. You can find beads shaped as stars or with stars printed on them, or use regular beads. Star Charm: Optional. We found the following online: http://www.artbeads.com/charm340.html http://www.bluemud.com/product.asp?pf%5Fid=70623&dept%5Fid=127%3A178 http://www.chubbychicocharms.com/catalog/c33_p1.html Stringing Material: Elastic stretch cord can be bought at Walmart or craft stores. #12 Inch Needle: Not mandatory but makes it easier to string beads. Hypo Cement: Ask for it at your local craft or bead store. Instructions: Cut an 18 piece of stretch cord. Thread the cord in the needle and then pull the needle into the middle of the stretch cord and then fold the stretch cord over to double it. String the beads onto the cord by using the needle. Make the bracelet the length you need, usually between 6.5 inches or 7.5 inches. Cut the needle out, stretch the Lycra out 2 or 3 inches and tie a surgeon's knot. You will be tying 4 ends. After you pull the knot really tight, cut the ends quite close,put on a drop of Hypo cement and pull the knot inside a bead.

Idea #14: Create a Star Dessert Table


Have a Create a Star dessert table set up where the girls and their parents can decorate large star shaped frosted sugar cookies. You could provide: --Frosting in decorating tubes --Small candies --Sliced fruit (try kiwis, peaches, strawberries, raspberries, nectarines, star fruit, canned mandarin oranges)

Idea #15: Milky way Sunday Bar


Have a table set up where the girls and their parents can create ice cream Sundays featuring Milky Way Candy bars. Give each person a big cup decorated with stars that has 1 or 2 miniature Milky Way candy bars in it. You could get black paper cups (at a party store) and put silver star stickers on the cups. On the top handle of the spoon you could tape a little tag that says When we shine our lights together, we shine stronger than the Milky Way. Or you could make a sign that says that to put on the table. In addition to the Milky Way candy bars, you could have any of the following items for the sunday bar: Ice cream, whip cream, cool whip, marshmallow cream, cherries, bananas, marshmallows, fudge or carmel sauce.

Idea #16: Steadfast & Immovable CD
Available in packs of 5 for only $3 each on www.jennyphillips.com. You can tie the CDs with a ribbon and make star shaped tags for them or wrap them in star patterned wrapping paper.

Idea #17: Personal Progress Stars Bookmarks


Encourage the young women to make goals for doing their personal progress by giving them Personal Progress Stars Bookmarks. Tell the girls that each time they finish an item in their personal progress, they can color in a star on their bookmark. Once all the stars are colored in, they will get a special surprise treat (such as a Milky Way candy bar, a Steadfast in You CD, a star charm necklace, a pack of Starbursts candy). To make the bookmarks, print out this page in full color on cardstock, and then cut the bookmarks out. You can mount them on a rectangular piece of yellow or other colored card stock if you want. You can also punch a hole in the top of the rectangular cardstock and put a ribbon on it.

Food Ideas & Recipes


Idea #18: Mini Star Sandwiches
Use a medium star shaped cookie cutter to cut these sandwiches into star shapes. You could serve the sandwiches with salad, fruit trays, soup, vegetable trays. Do not make the sandwiches too far in advance as the bread will dry out. The thinner the sandwich, the easier it will be to cut out. Do not make thick sandwiches. You will want to plan on 2-3 mini sandwiches for each person (depending on the size). These type of sandwiches work well with garlic or herb flavored cream cheese as the spread instead of mayo. Try Ham and swiss with fresh basil. Turkey, cheddar, and bacon. Cucumber. *You may want to put a toothpick in the middle of each sandwich. You could attach a star to the tops of the toothpick.

Idea #19: Not Your Ordinary Baked Potato Bar


Create a baked potato bar with the following toppings: homemade chili or black beans, crushed Fritos, shredded mozzarella cheese, diced tomatoes, chopped green onions.

Idea #20: Homemade Chili or Soup with Star Biscuits


Serve homemade chili or soup with star shaped biscuits (simply cut out the biscuit dough with a star shaped cookie cutter before you cook it)

Idea #21: Easy Milky Way Pudding Cups


Make a large pot of COOK and serve chocolate pudding (do not use instant). Fill a clear glass or plastic cup 1/3 full with chocolate pudding. Then put a layer of cool whip (1/3 of the cup). Sprinkle the cool whip with chopped Milky Way bars. Then put another layer of pudding. Put a scoop of cool whip on the top, and then sprinkle cool whip with more chopped Milky Way bars. Make Popsicle sticks that have a star shaped piece of cardstock glued to the top that says When we shine our lights together, we shine brighter than the Milky Way. Stick the sticks into the pudding.

Idea #22: Kiwi & Strawberry Stars


Make strawberry flavored, star shaped jello jigglers. Peel and slice Kiwi into thick slices. Cut a star out of each kiwi slice using a small cookie cutter. Arrange strawberry j-ello stars and kiwi stars on a small side plate. Top with whip cream or cool whip.You could add a small cookie for garnish.

Idea #23: Strawberries with Sour Cream & Brown Sugar


I discovered this surprisingly yummy dessert from my friend Soni Muller. On each dessert plate, put 1/2 cup of sliced, fresh strawberries. But a couple tablespoons of brown sugar and a couple table spoons of sour cream in separate piles. They will dip the strawberries in the sour cream and then the brown sugar. Its delicious!

Idea #24: The Fairest of Them All (Program for New Beginnings) (app. 25 minutes)
1. Open with a Young Women Narrator: (Could open a storybook as if reading a fairy tale). Once upon a time in a far away land, lived the young women of the ________________ward/stake. The high king of the land made a proclamation that was to be given out to every young women (open up and read the scripture from a scroll). Be steadfast and immovable, always abounding in good works (Mosiah 5:15). The king also added that those who followed this proclamation would become the fairest ones in the land. The young women of the ________________ ward/stake took this proclamation to heart. Adult Leader: These young women unit their faith and good works with millions of youth around the world. Play the Video Presentation: Like the Stars Young Women Narrator: (Could open up the storybook again). In a very dark and terrible kingdom, the prince of darkness saw the good works and faith of the young men and women of the high king. He saw how fair and beautiful and good they were. They were the fairest in all the world, and they were spreading light and joy to mankind, and it made him very mad. So the prince of darkness jumped on to his dark horse and came to the fair young women with magazine and tv images of women of a different type of beauty. This is beauty, he whispered and shouted and wrote everywhere. It is your bodies and your clothes that make you beautiful. But the fair young women were steadfast & immovable in their faith. They knew that the true beauty in them came from their faith and good works. Play the Video Presentation: To Become Like Him Perform the Song: To Become Like Him (female soloist)
Bishop/Adult Leader:

Give a 5 minute talk/testimony on how being steadfast & immovable in their faith and standards and being filled with good works truly makes them great and beautiful. Christ is the greatest and fairest of them all, and we were sent here to become like Him. Perform the Song: Steadfast in You

Decoration Ideas
Idea #25: Fairy Tale Tables
Every table could be themed a different fairy tale: Jack & the Beanstalk, the Ugly Duckling, the Princess and the Pea, Red Riding Hood, etc.

Idea #26: An Enchanted Forest


You could decorate the cultural hall or young womens room (where you are having dinner and the program) as an enchanted forest: trees, mushrooms, fairies, hanging butterflies, cottages, etc.

Idea #27: Fairy Tale Books


Collect fairy tale books from your neighbors or people in your ward. Do centerpieces and decorations with the storybooks.

Idea #28: Fairy Tale Menu
Serve the following. If you are doing it buffet style, put fun little signs by each dish. If you are serving them at the tables, have a little menu printed up at each place setting. At the buffet table or at each table have a basket of rolls or sliced bread. You could use a red cloth inside the basket.

10 oz. fresh or frozen peas 1 c. sliced celery 1 c. chopped fresh cauliflower flowerettes 1 c. diced green onions 2 tbsp. chopped pimiento 1 c. cashews 1/4 c. crisp cooked bacon 1/2 c. sour cream 1 c. prepared Hidden Valley Ranch salad dressing 1/2 tsp. Dijon mustard 1 sm. clove garlic, minced Rinse peas in hot water (steam if fresh); drain. Combine vegetables, nuts and bacon with sour cream. Mix prepared dressing, mustard and garlic together; pour over salad. Toss gently; chill.

Idea #31: Magic Mushroom Soup


MUSHROOM CHEESE SOUP 2 cans cream of mushroom soup 1 c. half and half 1 c. milk 4 oz. sour cream 1/2 (4 oz.) jar process cheese spread Dash of cayenne pepper 8 oz. or 3 c. fresh mushrooms, sliced 2-4 tbsp. white wine or sherry (optional) Mix soup, half and half, milk, sour cream, cheese spread and cayenne in large saucepan. Stir over low heat until cheese melts; stir in mushrooms. Reduce heat to very low and heat 20-30 minutes to blend flavors, stirring frequently. (Do not boil.) Just before serving, stir in wine. 6 servings. LEMONY BASIL MUSHROOM SOUP 1/4 c. butter 1 1/4 c. chopped onions 1 lb. fresh, sliced mushrooms 2 sliced celery stalks 2 sliced carrots 4 minced garlic cloves 6 c. water 3 cans condensed chicken broth 1 can condensed cream of chicken soup 1/2 c. fresh chopped basil or tbsp. dry basil and 1 (10 oz.) pkg. frozen chopped spinach 1 tsp. lemon juice 1 tsp. ground pepper 1/2 c. uncooked wile rice 1/4 c. uncooked white rice 1 lemon, sliced Grated Parmesan cheese In a 6 quart Dutch oven, melt butter. Saute onions, mushrooms, celery, carrots and garlic in butter about 5 minutes. Stir in water, broth, soup, basil, pepper, lemon juice and rices. Cover and simmer over low heat about 40 minutes. Serve and garnish with a lemon slice and Parmesan cheese.

Idea #32: Cinderellas Pumpkin Cake


1 large 29 oz can pumpkin 1 box yellow cake mix 1 cup milk 1 tsp cinnamon 1 cup melted butter 1/8 tsp cloves 1/2 tsp salt 3 eggs 1 cup sugar 1/4 tsp ginger 1/8 tsp nutmeg Mix all ingredients except for the cake mix and butter. Pour mixture into a 9" by 13" cake pan. Sprinkle yellow cake mix over pumpkin mixture. Melt butter pour over yellow cake. Bake at 350 for 1 hour. The cake can be eaten hot or cold. Top with home made whipped cream or Cool Whip

Idea #36: Star Gazing:


On a clear night, take the girls to a spot where thousands of stars can be seen. Have them lie on their backs and gaze into the heavens. Bear your testimony that the Creator of all of these brilliant lights knows each girl personally. Idea #37: Secret Stars of Service


Give each girl a small envelope of stars cut out of cardstock. Encourage them to do sall, secret acts of kindness and leave one of their stars by their act.

Idea #38: Night Hike: Shining Like the Stars in a Darkened World
Preparation: Choose a trail that will not be too difficult to hike after the sun goes down. Prepare 12 signs and place them at intervals along the trail. Make one sign for each of the following words: repentance, prayer, service, work, health, reading, blessings, fasting, friends, music, endurance, goals. Decorate each sign with stars-consider using glow-in-the-dark paint. Instruct the youth to dress properly and bring a flashlight. Start the hike after the sun has set. To begin the hike: Invite the youth to gaze up at the stars. Explain that even though the sun has gone down, there is still light in the sky because of the stars. We live in a world of increasing darkness. But just as the stars give light to a darkened sky, we are lights shining through the darkness of the world. When we choose to let our light shine, we are like the stars. Using Matthew 5, explain how the Savior labeled his followers "the light of the world." We are expected to use the light we have been given, the light of the gospel, and share it with others. We are to be examples and uphold standards in a wicked world. But sometimes, even though we have this light, the trail along our personal journeys can become darkened by sin or trials. Explain to the youth that the purpose of this hike is to learn 12 ways outlined by President Ezra Taft Benson to overcome sorrow, disappointment, and depression. Each of these 12 suggestions brings light to our lives at times when the trail becomes dark. We can then share our light with others-like the stars. During the Hike: Stop at each sign and briefly discuss how each principle can light up a darkened path. Use many personal experiences and stories from the scriptures. Use President Benson's talk for help (Ensign, November 1974, 65-67). Alternate Option: In the days proceeding the hike, assign one or more youth to each topic. Have them report at each sign. After the Hike: Bear your testimony that we have a great responsibility to share our light with others. This can become difficult at those times when we feel we have little or no light in our lives. Sorrow, disappointment, and depression may be experienced frequently during the turbulent years of growing up. But using these 12 guidelines from President Benson will help restore light to our souls-and we will in turn be better able to share our light with others, just as a night sky is brightened by the stars.

Idea #39: Good Dead Stars


Encourage the girls to serve one another and perform good deeds throughout the week. By serving others, we are sharing the light of Christ with others in a dark world. In an area where the campers will be frequently (ie: mess hall), hang a large black sheet or large piece of black butcher paper. Give each leader a box full of yellow or gold stars. These are "good deed stars." Every time a leader sees another camper doing a good deed, she should record that girl's name and deed on a star and hang it up. By the end of the week you will have a sky full of stars!

Idea #40: The Light Tree Challenge


With much prayer and thought, plan a powerful and spiritual fireside for the girls near the beginning of camp on living the law of chastity. Explain that we cannot shine like the stars if we are steadfast & immovable in out standards. Explain that the adversary knows that immorality takes that light outside of us. Without that light we are an empty holder or what was designed to be filled with his light. End the fireside by explaining the Light Tree challenge and passing out the challenge cards. Have a devotional that talks about the importance of keeping ourselves morally clean. This activity is designed to have the girls make the personal commitment to live the law of chastity. Its so important for the youth to make a firm decision and commitment now, so that when they are faced with the temptation of sexual sin, they will have already decided. Give each girl 2 of the challenge cards on the following page (or make your own). During the fireside, explain to them how important it is that they decide NOW that they will live the law of chastity. (It might be good to mention that if they have had problems with chastity this challenge still applies to them and their future decisions) Choose a group of trees by your meeting place and put a box by the trees. Tell them that, if they choose to take the challenge and make this commitment, that, sometime during the week, they can come and put one of their cards in the box (they dont put their name on it or do it to be seen, etc.) Every night, the leaders will take the cards out of the box from the day. For each card in the box, they will hang a string of white lights on the group of trees. By the end of the week, the trees should be shining. You can then talk to the girls on the last night about how each of their individual decisions is like a star lighting up a dark world, and not only with they have the Lords spirit with them, but they will be a guide for others. The girls can keep their other challenge card in their scriptures as a reminder of their commitment.

Idea #41: Star Academy


Hold a Star Academy at camp on How to Become a Star. Have 5 different workshops on 5 Points of Becoming a Star. Beauty, Acting Skills, Image, Connections, Confidence Beauty Have someone present a workshop on what true beauty means. Here are some ideas: 1) Play or have someone perform the song To Become Like Him (from the Steadfast & Immovable CD) and/or you could play the video To Become Like Him. 2) Cut out a picture from a magazine of a beautiful but sophisticated and vain looking girl or women (make sure the picture is still modest or that you crop it so that it is)--Picture A. Display that picture along with a large picture of an average looking girl in the ward or stake that looks full of happiness and goodness but does not look worldly--Picture B. Ask the girls to write down answers to the following questions and then discuss them with the girls. 1) Which girl would you rather be friends with? Why? 2) What feelings/thoughts does Picture A create? (Answers might be a longing to be beautiful, feeling inade quate, comparing yourself, vanity, worldliness, an emphasis on self, fashion, or outward beauty.) What feelings does Picture B create? (Answers might be a happiness, goodness, light, inspiration) After discussing the answers with the girls, ask them if they would rather be viewed as picture A or B? In their thoughts and desires, are they focusing on becoming physically beautiful and attractive in the eyes of the world or of being beautiful through cleanliness, care, healthy eating, and exercise but also, and more importantly, through study, kindness, service, selflessness, and charity? Explain to them that they will have the greatest effect upon people and people will be the MOST attracted to them and inspired by them when they have the beauty that comes from a life of service and love and testimony. 3) Give each girl a small sampler size of lotion, perfume, and/or lip gloss (you could give just one thing or put a few different items in a small cloth bag tied with a ribbon. Acting Skills Have someone present a workshop on Acting Skills. They could talk about how life is a stage and we are actors. There is always an audience, even if we cant see them. The audience is our Heavenly Father. 1) Do a role play to show how they choose how the script will go in their lives. Using the scripts below, read the first part, and then have 2 different girls read the responding part. Ask the girls what script they would choose? Or use the role play to show how they do not have to play the role of the script they are given by the world. They can choose their own lines. When we have hard times we can be angry and bitter and pessimistic or we can be humble and optimistic. 3) Have the audience help you make a list of common ways that stars of the world act in their personal lives. Image Have someone present a workshop on Image. Pass out small mirrors to everyone. Have them look in the mirror and tell them that they are seeing their worldly image. Then have them close there eyes and think about ways they want their Heavenly Fathers image inside them. Talk about the importance of keeping their physical image in accordance with what they want to be spiritually. Use the Dress and Appearance and Physical Health section in the For the Strength of Youth Pamphlet. Go over guidelines of dress and appearance for missionaries. Why is that so important?
Read this from Spencer W. Kimball: Spencer W. Kimball, On My Honor, Ensign, Apr 1979, 2 We say anew and more vigorously to all of you: Trim your hair appropriately. Wear modest, clean clothing. Your clothes dont have to be new and the latest fashion, but they should be clean, modest, and neat. Be dignified in your outward appearance and in your manners and in your inward morality. Take pride in your principles. Tear down, as it were, any of the old sheds of the past. Repent of old transgressions and start this school year with clean hands and a pure heart, reflected by good grooming, acceptable apparel, and personal integrity. Let me confess one of the sad disappointments I sometimes feel: The returned missionary who, after two years of taking great pride in how he looks and what he represents, returns to this campus or some other similar place to see how quickly he can let his hair grow, how fully he can develop a moustache and long sideburns and push to the very margins of appropriate grooming, how clumpy his shoes get, how tattered his clothes are, how close to being grubby he can get without being refused admittance to the school. That, my young returned missionary brethren, is one of the great disappointments in my life. I meet with prime ministers and presidents, with sovereigns and rulers, political and public figures all over the world, and one of the things they inevitably say about us (and always with warmth and appreciation) is, We have seen your missionaries. Weve seen them all over the globe, in every state of the union and in most countries of the world. Without exception, they look like young men ought to look. They are clean cut, neatly dressed, well-groomed, and dignified. My, that makes me proud! Im trying to do my own little part in missionary work and that kind of comment makes me so proud of you. Then sometimes these great leaders say, Your missionaries look like just the kind of young men I would want in my business, or in my government, or in my embassy, or in my law firm. Sometimes they even say, They look just like the young man I would like for a son-in-law. That makes me proudest of all.

Connections Have someone present a workshop on Connections. Its all about who you know in the entertainment industry. How much easier is it for a child of a movie star or a spouse of a movie star to break into the entertainment industry. Talk about how in life, we have no better chance of becoming a true star than in having strong connections with Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and our family. What Matters Most Is What Lasts Longest (M. Russell Ballard) Talk about the ways we can stay connect to Heavenly Father and the Lord and our family. Talk about the importance of not leaving the Saviors side through wrong choices so we can stay connected to Him and His power. Play or perform the song I Will Never Move. Confidence Have someone present a workshop on Confidence. Create a skit (or break the girls into groups and have them create a skit) with a director and actors that shows what an actor would be like that had no confidence. Talk about where true confidence comes from. Use this talks as reference: Young Women and Young Men general presidencies, Real Confidence, Liahona, Jan 2007, 810 I Can Do It! Confidence Builders If you want to grow more and more confident, here are some things you can do: Pray, as Moses did, that the Lord will help you remember that you are His child and that you have an important work to do. Make a list of your strengths and good qualities. Read and ponder your patriarchal blessing, or prepare to receive one. Serve others, and write in your journal how service makes you feel. Eat well and exercise. Your body is a gift from God, and good nutrition and physical activity will lift your mood and help you feel better about yourself. Offer prayers of gratitude, and record your gratitude in a journal. Develop your talents. Keep the commandments. Remember that confidence does not come by being better than someone else. It comes from knowing you are a child of God and doing what He would have you do.

Idea #42: Like the Stars Slide show


Create a slide show or presentation to the song Like the Stars that features photos and/or video of the young women in the ward or stake to play on the last night under the stars.

Idea #43 :Value Star Necklaces
For each necklace you will need: -A ruler -A 42 long ribbon (1/2 inch or less) -7 star outlines printed onto white cardstock (one for each value) --Colored Pencils and/or markers --A hole puncher

Instructions: Have the girls decorate and cut out their stars. Tell them to decorate each star with the values corresponding color. Hole punch near the top point of each star. String the first star on to the ribbon and pull down to about 12 to the end of the ribbon. Tie a knot. String the next star 2 apart from the first and so on until all the stars are stringed and tied. Tie the ends of the ribbon together, and they can put the necklaces over their heads.

Idea #44: Star Flip Flops


Materials: *flip flops for each girl (you can get them at the dollar store, or have the girls provide their own), *star fabric, cut into pieces Instructions: Cut or tear pieces of fabric in strips 6 inches long by 1 inch wide. Tie the pieces closely together around the top of the flip flop (about 30 per shoe). Cut the ends of the strips to the desired length.

Idea #45: Star Framed Scripture


An easy craft for leaders to make and give to the young women as a gift, but also one that the girls would enjoy putting together themselves. Materials: Black frame, 1 sheet of velum with the scripture Mosiah 5:15 computer printed on it (or you could write it nicely by hand with a black fine tip marker), black cardstock, white cardstock, glue stick, wooden stars, craft paint Instructions: Cut a piece of black cardstock to fit the frame. Cut white star shapes out of the white cardstock and glue them at random onto the black cardstock. Place the velum over the black cardstock and place both into the frame. Paint small wooden stars with craft paint and secure them to the bottom right hand corner of the outside of the frame.

Idea #46: Cell Phone Charms


Many cell phones now have a place for charms. The young women will enjoy making these beaded charms to adorn their phones-or to give them away as gifts. They would also be cute hanging from a key chain. Materials: Thin thread or wire, Small beads, Star shaped charms Instructions: Using either thread or wire, string the beads in a colorful pattern. Attach a star charm at the bottom either by bending the wire or by tying knots in the thread. In place of charms, you could also use small wooden or foam star shapes. Tie thread-or insert wire through-the charm spot (usually on the back or side of the cell phone. Not all phones have one, so the girls can tie it to the antennae or attach it to their key chains instead.)

Idea #47: Star Magnets


Materials: Ingredients for clay, craft paint, magnets, glue Clay Recipe: 2 cups plain flour 1 cup salt 1 cup cold water 2 tablespoons cooking oil Instructions: Mix flour, salt, and vegetable oil. Slowly add the water. Knead well until it forms a soft ball. Line a baking tray with aluminum foil. Use different sizes of star cookie cutters to make star shapes. Bake them in the oven at 275 degrees until they are hard (about one hour). You can use food coloring to color the dough before you bake it, or paint them with craft paint when they are cool. After the paint has dried, attach magnets to the back of each star with glue.

Choose a name for each cabin or ward that represents a fairy tale. They can decorate their cabins going along with their fairy tale, come up with role calls using that fairy tale or even wear something to do with that fairy tale. Idea #52: Opening Activity


Give each young woman a small mirror. Have them look in the mirror and write down in their journals what physical attributes they see (physical only). Talk about the evil queen in Sleeping Beauty, and how all she wanted was to become physically beautiful to become The Fairest of Them All. Explain that this week, they are going to learn what it truly means to be The Fairest of Them All. To become like the Savior, the Perfect One, the true fairest of them all. We need to make His qualities our own. Even though we will never reach perfection in this life, we must never stop trying to become more and more like Him every single day. Invite the young women to spend a few minutes searching their scriptures for qualities they love about the Savior. Any book of scripture can be used, but many passages about the Savior's qualities are easily accessible in the New Testament. Have them write down the qualities that they find that they want to have in their scriptures. Bear your testimony to them about the importance of becoming like Him instead of what the world wants us to be. Becoming like the Savior and living His gospel is the only way to find lasting happiness. Play the song, "To become Like Him."

Create a camp journal with the theme Fairest of Them All or Once Upon a Time. You could do headers on each page using words from the camp theme song To Become Like Him. Encourage the girls to write in the journal each day about the spiritual experiences they have and feel. You are enough . . . just look up Remember you are greatest when you walk with God. Idea #54: Read the Book The Parable of the Princesses


This book, written by Jenny Phillips and illustrated by Dan Burr will be released by Deseret Book in Spring 2008. This story is about 3 princesses who get taken on a journey. A mirror in the forest, a shining castle, and an entertaining village all combine in a story of a brothers love and a reminder of what this life is about. Look for this book in LDS bookstores in late Spring.

Idea #57: Write Your Own Story Activity
Have a devotional with the girls and talk to them about the fact that we choose what our story will be here on this earth. While we may not be able to choose all of the things that happen to us, it is up to us to choose what we become. Create a page or a small book for them to write their own story in. Prepare them spiritually, and then have them each find a quiet place where they can pray and write. You may choose to have them use the following headings in their story: My Story by _________________________ The Treasures I Am Searching For The Type of Princess I am Becoming How I Want My Story to End

Idea #58: The Fairest of Them All Hike


Before the hike, talk about how it is hard work to gain the characteristics of Christ and to become like Him. But we get their step by step. These little steps will be bundled together and determine our character and who we become. If we set our sights higher and always look up to the Lord and work hard, we can eventually become like Him. Have signs posted along the way with a characteristic of Christ: Kindness Patience Humility Virtue Service Wisdom Integrity Obedience Faith Gratitude Option #1: Bookmark Give each of the girls a bookmark before they leave for the hike that says To Become Like Him at the top of it. At each sign, have a stamp with the characteristic on it in a treasure box by the sign. When they get to the sign, they can stamp their bookmark. By the time they get to the top, they will have all the characteristics stamped on their bookmark. Option #2: Necklace Give each girl a string tied in a knot that will fit easily over their heads. At each sign, have a ribbon with one of the traits of Christ on it. They can tie the ribbon to their necklace. By the time they get to the top, they will have all the traits tied onto their necklace.

Idea #59: The Fairest of Them All Workshops


These workshops are designed to help teach the young women how to become the fairest in the land through examples and messages of well known fairy tales. Break the girls into 4-5 groups and hold 3-4 of following rotating workshops (about 10 minutes each). And then combine everyone together for the Fairest of Them All workshop. The Fairest of Them All 1. Read this story of Sleeping Beauty: Translated by L.L. Weedon. Long, long ago, in the winter-time, when the snowflakes were falling like little white feathers from the sky, a beautiful Queen sat beside her window, which was framed in black ebony, and stitched. As she worked, she looked sometimes at the falling snow, and so it happened that she pricked her finger with her needle, so that three drops of blood fell upon the snow. How pretty the red blood looked upon the dazzling white! The Queen said to herself as she saw it, "Ah me! If only I had a dear little child as white as the snow, as rosy as the blood, and with hair as black as the ebony window-frame." Soon afterwards a little daughter came to her, who was white as snow, rosy as the blood, and whose hair was as black as ebony--so she was called "Little Snow-White." But alas! When the little one came, the good Queen dies. A year passed away, and the King took another wife. She was very beautiful, but so proud and haughty that she could not bear to be surpassed in beauty by anyone. She possessed a wonderful mirror which could answer her when she stood before it and said: "Mirror, mirror upon the wall, Who is the fairest of all?" The mirror answered. "Thou, O Queen, art the fairest of all, and the Queen was contented, because she knew the mirror could speak nothing but the truth. The Queen was horrified, and from that moment envy and pride grew in her heart like rank weeds, until one day she called a huntsman and said "Take the child away into the woods and kill her, for I can no longer bear the sight of her. 2. Tell the girls that they all know the end of the story of Snow White (or paraphrase it). Talk about how in Sleeping Beauty, the evil queen wanted nothing more than to be physically beautiful. When we focus so much of our thoughts and desires on becoming physically beautiful rather than on gaining Christ-like attributes, we can acquire the same traits the evil queen acquired: vanity, envy, self centerdness, and pride. Talk about what truly makes a person beautiful is not what we see in the mirror. That is a temporary and surface beauty.

Pinocchios Nose (Integrity)


Tell the story of Pinocchio (or read it from a short childrens book). Talk about the part where Pinocchios nose grows longer with every lie he tells. At one point, he lies to a good fairy, and his nose grows so long that he cant get out of his house. Talk about what happens to us when we lie. Our nose doesnt grow longer, but we loose the spirit, we loose self respect, and we loose trust and respect. Being someone full of integrity, someone people can trust and count on, will attract people to you. Look up conference reports on honest and consider using these quotes: Teaching of Howard W. Hunter (Honesty & Integrity) When we are honest we experience joy. We often speak of that scriptural reference, "Man is that he might have joy" (2 Nephi 2:25). There is a joy which comes to one from being honest. Let me tell you how. By this means you can have the companionship of the Master and you can have the spirit of the Holy Ghost. Violations of the code of honesty will deprive you of these two great blessings. This great quality of integrity is fully available to us. If effectively used, it will solve all of our problems in government, religion, industry, and our individual lives. It would wipe out the awful scourge of crime, divorce, poverty, and misery. It would make us successful here and save our souls hereafter. (88-01) We should think about the results of dishonesty. Think of what an act of dishonesty will do to you. It does not make any difference whether it is great or small. First, it will affect your whole life. We never live it down. We never forget about it because it is engraved upon our conscience, never to be forgotten. Secondly, it will affect others in many ways. The injury is far-reaching. Its malignancy extends to our friends, our relatives, our loved ones, and persons we may never see. Thirdly, it affects our relationship to the Savior. It closes the channel of communication and shuts out light from our life. Integrity is the golden key to the door of success. One of the greatest accomplishments of our lives is to promote an honest, earnest integrity within ourselves. This means that we become spiritually sound, intellectually sincere, morally honest, and always personally responsible to God. Read the story of The Gingerbread Man: Once upon a time a little old woman and a little old man lived in a cottage. One day the little old woman made a gingerbread man. She gave him currants for eyes and cherries for buttons. She put him in the oven to bake. The little old woman and little old man were very hungry and wanted to eat the gingerbread man. As soon as he was cooked, the little old woman opened the oven door. The gingerbread man jumped out of the tin and ran out of the open window shouting, 'Don't eat me!'The little old woman and little old man ran after the gingerbread man.'Stop! Stop!' they yelled.The gingerbread man did not look back. He ran on saying,'Run, run as fast as you can! You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man!' Down the lane he sped when he came to a pig. After reading the story, talk about how important it is to live the standards of the church. Many of satans messages are like sly foxes. It doesnt matter if you cross the line a little bit. It doesnt matter if you date before 16 or wear immodest clothing he will say. Its as if hes saying hop on my back, I will not eat you. Then slowly he has you go from his back, to his nose, and then he has you right where he wants you. 2. Talk about how staying far away from Satan and his whisperings will keep them safe and clean. Virtue is one of the fairest traits a women could posse and Satan wants to trick us all in to becoming unchaste. That gingerbread man should have kept running. If he would have steered fear from the fox, the gingerbread wouldnt have been eaten by him. 3. You could give out gingerbread cookies or have them decorate & eat gingerbread cookies. 4. You could give out the following handout printed out on cardstock or you could use it as a tag for a wrapped gingerbread cookie.

Cinderella (Humility)
Create a workshop on Cinderella that talks about how Cinderellas humility attracted the prince to her and made her beautiful. Talk about how the glass slipper belongs to the humblest girl in the kingdom.

The Three Little Pigs (Work)


Tell the story of the 3 little pigs or have a skit of it performed. Talk about how hard work creates strong character that cant be blown down by the big bad wolf. Have a stick, a piece of straw, and a brick. As a volunteer to try to break the straw, then the stick, and then the brick. Explain that the harder we study and work in the gospel the stronger our testimonies will become. Testimonies that arent worked on are like straw or twigs. Through scriptures study, attending our meetings, pray & fasting, seminary, etc. our testimonies grow more like bricks than straw. You could create a handout that is a tag on a little twig that says Is your testimony like a piece of straw, a twig, or a brick?

Idea #60: Fairy tale Skits


Divide the girls into groups. Give each group the synopsis of a well-known fairy tale and a box of props and dress ups. (They dont all have to go along with the fairy tale. Tell them to be creative.) Give them 10 minutes to come up with a skit to put on about their fairy tale for all of the girls. Or have them to come up with a fun twist ont he well known fairy tale.

Idea #61: Aesop's Fables


Create an activity using Aesops Fables The Tortoise and the Hare The hare was once boasting of his speed before the other animals. "I have never yet been beaten," said he, "when I put forth my full speed. I challenge anyone here to race with me." The tortoise said quietly, "I accept your challenge." "That is a good joke," said the hare. "I could dance around you all the way." "Keep your boasting until you've beaten," answered the tortoise. "Shall we race?" So a course was fixed and a start was made. The hare darted almost out of sight at once, but soon stopped and, to show his contempt for the tortoise, lay down to have a nap. The tortoise plodded on and plodded on, and when the hare awoke from his nap, he saw the tortoise nearing the finish line, and he could not catch up in time to save the race. The Fox and the Monkey A Monkey once danced in an assembly of the Beasts, and so pleased them all by his performance that they elected him their King. A Fox, envying him the honor, discovered a piece of meat lying in a trap, and leading the Monkey to the place where it was, said that she had found a store, but had not used it, she had kept it for him as treasure trove of his kingdom, and counseled him to lay hold of it. The Monkey approached carelessly and was caught in the trap; and on his accusing the Fox of purposely leading him into the snare, she replied, "Oh Monkey, and are you, with such a mind as yours, going to be King over the Beasts?" The Wolf in Sheeps Clothing A Wolf found great difficulty in getting at the sheep owing to the vigilance of the shepherd and his dogs. But one day it found the skin of a sheep that had been flayed and thrown aside, so it put it on over its own pelt and strolled down among the sheep. The Lamb that belonged to the sheep, whose skin the Wolf was wearing, began to follow the Wolf in the Sheep's clothing; so, leading the Lamb a little apart, he soon made a meal off her, and for some time he succeeded in deceiving the sheep, and enjoying hearty meals. The Shepherds Boy There was once a young Shepherd Boy who tended his sheep at the foot of a mountain near a dark forest. It was rather lonely for him all day, so he thought upon a plan by which he could get a little company and some excitement. He rushed down towards the village calling out "Wolf, Wolf," and the villagers came out to meet him, and some of them stopped with him for a considerable time. This pleased the boy so much that a few days afterwards he tried the same trick, and again the villagers came to his help. But shortly after this a Wolf actually did come out from the forest, and began to worry the sheep, and the boy of course cried out "Wolf, Wolf," still louder than before. But this time the villagers, who had been fooled twice before, thought the boy was again deceiving them, and nobody stirred to come to his help. So the Wolf made a good meal off the boy's flock, and when the boy complained, the wise man of the village said: "A liar will not be believed, even when he speaks the truth."

Idea #62: Letter Writing


Have a fun workshop on the art of letter writing. Encourage the girls to write letters and notes throughout their lives to family members and missionaries. Talk about the importance of thank you notes. Supply the girls with nice stationary and envelopes. Have them write a thank you letter to someone (either at camp or to bring home with them).

Idea #63: Wax Seals


Teach the girls how to create wax seals to seal their envelopes as you used in medievil times. You can get custom made wax stampers on the internet. It may be fun to create a wax seal with your camp theme or with the words Steadfast & Immovable.

Idea #64: Calligraphy Class


Have one of the leaders teach the girls a short calligraphy lesson. You can provide the girls with parchment paper, quills, and ink as well as calligraphy charts they can copy letters from.

Idea #65: The Kingdom Mail Service


Have each cabin or tent create a mailbox decorated in fairy tale fashion and put the mailbox somewhere by the tent or cabin, or have all the mailboxes in one central location like in the eating area. Give the girls stationary, envelopes, parchment cards & seals, etc. You could create a cute little packet for each of the girls to give out when they arrive at camp. Encourage the girls to write anonymous notes and letters to other girls in the camp and secretly deliver them to the mailbox of their camp or tent. Once a day the leaders can hand out the mail. Leaders should note which girls are not getting letters and create some anonymous notes for them to put in the mailbox as well.

Idea #66: Fairest One Scrolls


Before camp, give the mother and/or father of each girl a piece of parchment paper (or stationary) and ask them to write a letter to their daughter expressing their love and appreciation for them. At the top of the paper have the heading To the Fairest of Them All. Roll up the parchment and attach it with a bow. Give the scrolls to the girls at a special time at camp.

Idea #67: Throne Chairs
Use 5-gallon buckets with lids to create Throne chairs. You could have the girls spray paint them gold and decorate with glitter glue. You could create a pad to go on top of the bucket for them to sit on.

Idea #68: To Become Like Him Locker Mirror


Materials: Picture frame mat (either 3X5 or 4X6) Mirrors (sized to fit behind the size of the mat) Markers Magnets Glue Wooden stars Instructions: Using colorful markers, have the girls write qualities they admire about the Savior around the edge of the mat. Glue two wooden stars on opposite corners. Using hot glue, attach the mirror face up to the back of the mat. Glue magnets on the back of the mirror. Encourage the girls to think about becoming more like the Savior when they use this mirror.

Idea #69: Medieval Letter Blocks


Find a fun, decorative, medieval or rennasaince font (with flowers and designs, etc.) and print out a chart of all the letters. Provide the girls with permanent colored pens and small white squares of cardstock. Have them do each letter of their name on a different square. Modge podge the letters to small wooden blocks.

Idea #70: Medieval Stained Glass Butterflies


Hang these in the eating area or in the cabins. They could also do flowers, castles Supplies needed: Waxed paper Crayon shaving (crayons shaved with a scissors or a knife - by an adult) Scissors An iron Hole punch A few inches of string Directions: Fold a piece of waxed paper in two. Draw half a butterfly with the body at the fold. Flip the paper over and draw the other half of the butterfly (using the original as your template). Open the waxed paper and put it on a flat surface. Put some crayon shavings on the waxed paper (and inside the butterfly). Cover the waxed paper with another piece of waxed paper. Iron the two layers of waxed paper together on low heat (protect your iron by putting a paper towel on top of the waxed paper while ironing). Cut out the butterfly. Punch a hole near the top. Put a string in the hole for hanging it. This butterfly looks beautiful hanging in a window.

Weekly Activities
General Activities focusing on the 2008 Theme
Idea #71: American Idle
1) Briefly discuss what the word "idle" means and announce that you are going to play, "American Idle." 2) Break into groups. Give each group 10 minutes to come up with a short skit about idleness. The skits should portray ways that we as a society, young and old, can be idle with our time. You will be surprised at what they will come up with! You may also consider giving each group a different age group to portray-young children, teenagers, college students, adults, retirees, etc. Decide if they will be allowed to talk or if you want the skit to be pantomimed (and have the audience guess what they are doing). You could bring a box of props or provide materials (paper, markers, glue, stapler, etc.) for them to make their own. 3) Have each group perform their skit. 4) Have the audience vote on their favorite skit (use private ballots). 5) Award the winners of "American Idle." 6) Using the scripture Mosiah 5:15, discuss what it means to "abound in good works," which is essentially, the opposite of being idle. What are good works? Why should be abound in them? How did the Savior spend His time? What does service do for us personally? Play the song, "Someone Needs Your Star." 7) Break into groups again. This time, instruct each group to come up with a service project that you could do as an organization. 8) Have each group present their idea and vote again (privately) on which service project everyone would like to do for the next activity. Or, get out a calendar and choose days to do them all throughout the year.

Idea #72: Star Search Talent Night!


Letting our lights shine like the stars involves developing our gifts and talents. Talents such as singing, dancing, painting, writing, acting, photography, etc., are all forms of "good works." Holding a Talent Night is one way to encourage the youth to engage in these good works and develop their talents. Notify the youth of the talent night at least 4 weeks in advance, giving them time to work on their presentations. Encourage stage presentations as well as displays, but allow each youth time in the spotlight to present their talent (for example, if a youth brings a drawing, give him or her a few moments to present it and talk about it). Give the bishop or a youth leader a few minutes to talk about how developing our gifts and talents is one way we can engage ourselves in good works. Use Mosiah 5:15 to discuss how good works can help us steer clear of temptation and strengthen our faith.

Idea #73: Starring: YOU!


Objective: To highlight the each youth, honoring their individual talents, gifts, and qualities that help make them "steadfast and immovable." The idea is to build them up-they are good, strong young people who CAN overcome all of the negativity and evil that surrounds them. Preparation: Presentation-Gather pictures of each young man or young woman. Have the parents of each youth fill out a "Starring: Your Son!" or "Starring: Your Daughter!" survey. Put together a power point presentation with the pictures and information of each youth. Star Throne-Decorate a chair with stars, streamers, balloons, etc. This will be the chair that each young man or young woman sits in as he or she is being spotlighted. Place it at the front of the room. Star Awards-Decorate a star (cut out of cardstock) with glitter and place his or her name in the middle.

Steadfast and Immovable Slide Show-Gather photographs of the youth. You can use pictures of them together (taken from previous camps or activities) as well as some of their individual pictures you used for the presentation. Create a slide presentation to play with the song, "Steadfast and Immovable." Activity: 1) Begin with an opening song and prayer 2) Like the Stars: Take a moment to share your admiration for them. Emphasize that each of them are talented, capable people who are armed with unique gifts. Even President Hinckley stands in awe of such a strong generation of youth. Read his words: You represent a great generation in the history of the world and in the history of this Church. In terms of the Church, I feel that you are part of the greatest generation we have ever had Nearly every one of you desires to do the right thing. And in most instances you are doing it. You are trying to keep yourselves free from the corrosive stains of the world. It is not easy. It is a constant challenge. Every one of you is a story of success. But for some of you there are chapters in that story that speak of failure which you wish to rise above and which you can rise above. Regardless of what may have happened in the past, there is a way to make a new start, and you are encouraged to discuss this with your bishop. Now, this evening, my dear young friends, I present to you an invitation and a challengeRegardless of your way of doing things in the past, I offer you a challenge this night to square your lives with the teachings of the gospelI invite you to walk the path of faith with me. I challenge you to stand for that which is right and true and good" (Gordon B. Hinckley, "'True to the Faith'," Ensign, Jun 1996, 2). As the stars stand steady and constant, so each young man and woman has the potential to "stand for that which is right and true and good." Let them know that this night is about them-what is good about them and what they are doing right. 3) Presentation: a. Using the power point presentation, highlight each youth one by one. As they are being highlighted, ask them to sit in the Star Throne. Applaud after each spotlight. 4) Steadfast and Immovable Slide Show 5) End with a closing prayer. 6) Serve "Raspberry Star Cookies" for refreshments

Idea #74: Raspberry Star Cookies


1 cup butter, softened 1 cup white sugar 1 egg 3 cups all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 (8 ounce) jar raspberry preserves 2 cups confectioners' sugar 2 teaspoons almond extract Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg. Combine the flour and salt; stir into the creamed mixture. Dough will be stiff. On a lightly floured surface, roll half of the dough out to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut into star shapes using a cookie cutter. Set cookies 1 inch apart onto the prepared cookie sheets. Place a teaspoon of jam onto each cookie and spread out towards the points of the stars. Roll out remaining half of the dough and cut into stars the same size. cut holes in the center of each star, then place them onto the jam stars. Bake for 7 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, until golden around the edges. Remove from cookie sheets to cool on wire racks. In a small bowl, mix together the confectioners' sugar and almond extract to form a glaze. Add water a teaspoon at a time if the mixture is too thick to drizzle. Drizzle glaze over cooled cookies.

Idea #75: Starry-Eyed Panel


Objective: Leaders in the ward will speak in a panel-like setting about being steadfast and immovable. Preparation: One to two weeks before, let the youth know about the panel and give them a chance to write questions that they would like addressed to the panel. Ask 4-5 leaders in the ward to be a part of this panel (consider members of the bishopric, members of the YW/YM Presidencies, Relief Society President, Elders Quorum President, etc.). Beforehand, give the panel a list of questions they might be asked. Questions may include: -What were challenges when you were a teenager? -Share a time when you had to stand up to a peer. -Why did you decide to go on a mission? -What did you do as a teenager to prepare for the temple? -What does the phrase, "steadfast and immovable" mean to you? -What did you love about being a teenager? -What were some things you were involved in as a teenager? -Now that you are an adult, what is one thing you wish you had known as a teenager? -How have "good works" played a role in your life? -How has a mission blessed your life? -How has a temple marriage blessed your life? -What advice do you have for a young man or young woman who is not sure they have a testimony? -Also include appropriate questions written by the youth. Ask the leaders to prayerfully prepare for the panel presentation. Personal experiences and examples from the scriptures should be included. This should be a fun night for the youth, but also a time to learn from righteous real-life examples of their leaders. Panel Presentation: Sit the panel in a line in front of the youth. Make sure there is a microphone that can be passed if you are not in a small room. Ask the questions to the panel and give all who wish a chance to respond. (Or, to save on time, you may wish to assign a specific panel member to answer a specific question.) Make sure the panel understands that their responses should not exceed a few minutes. Allow the youth to present questions that occur to them at any time throughout the discussion (by raise of hands). Play the song (or arrange for someone to sing) "I Will Never Move." Encourage the youth to follow the righteous examples of their leaders, and decide now, in their youth, to follow the Savior and be steadfast and immovable. After the closing prayer, serve Chocolate Oatmeal Stars.

Idea #76: Chocolate Oatmeal Stars


2/3 cup shortening 1 cup sugar 1 egg 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/2 teaspoon almond extract 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips, melted 1 cup all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1 cup quick-cooking oats 1 cup flaked coconut, finely chopped Colored sugars or colored sprinkles In a mixing bowl, cream shortening and sugar. Beat in egg and extracts. Stir in melted chocolate chips. Combine flour, salt and baking soda; gradually add to the creamed mixture. Stir in oats and coconut. Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours or until easy to handle. On a lightly floured surface, roll out to 1/8-in. thickness. Cut with a 3-in. star-shaped cookie cutter dipped in flour. Place 1 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets. Sprinkle with colored sugar or nonpareils. Bake at 350 degrees F for 7-9 minutes or until firm. Remove to wire racks to cool.

Idea #77: Scripture Read-In


Hold a "Scripture Read-In." Encourage everyone to bring pillows, blankets, and their scriptures. Provide popcorn and other snacks. Munch on the goodies as you spend quiet time enjoying the scriptures. You may also want to spend part of the evening sharing and discussing favorite scripture stories. Before you begin the read-in, talk about how regular scripture study helps us to become more like the Savior. Anchoring ourselves in the scriptures helps us to leave the world behind and focus instead on becoming like Christ. Play the song, "To Become Like Him."

Idea #78: Marshmallow Popcorn


2 or 3 bags popped popcorn 1 c sugar 3 c marshmallows c corn syrup 1 c butter vanilla Mix popcorn and marshmallows together and set aside. Mix in a heavy sauce pan butter, sugar, and corn syrup. Bring to a boil for 2 minutes. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Pour mixture over popcorn and marshmallows. Yum!!

Idea#79: Exploring Good Works: Career Night!


Organize a career day around the phrase "good works." Most of the youth will eventually have to find work to provide for their families when they are adults. This activity gives them an opportunity to learn more about possible jobs and careers-"good works!" Arrange to visit a few businesses that are open in the evening (restaurants, theaters, news stations, retail shops, etc.). Ask (beforehand) a manager or employee to show you around and talk about what it's like to work in that trade. Or, consider inviting professionals to come and speak to the youth at the church (doctors, lawyers, teachers, businessmen, engineers, etc.) Encourage the youth to give thought to the "good works" they would like to consider for their future, and remind them that they can pursue any dream-no matter how big! Share these lyrics from the song, "To Become Like Him": You look around you And you wonder if you'll measure up In this world it seems you many never be enough Don't let anyone convince you that it's true With proper planning, diligence, and the Lord's help, each young man or woman can accomplish any ambitions for their futures. Remind them that choices they make now will affect what job they have in the future. Help them to set goals to reach their educational and employment desires.

Idea #80: Service Scavenger Hunt


Objective: The youth will spend the evening performing acts of service for families in the neighborhood. Making it a relay race adds excitement and fun! Beforehand: Meet all together as a group. Discuss the importance of service, using Mosiah 2:17. Play the song, "Someone Needs Your Star." Then, head out for the scavenger hunt! Instructions: Divide the youth into groups of 4 or 5. Give each group a Service Scavenger Hunt Check-Off Sheet (follows below). Instruct each group to knock on doors in the neighborhood (or ward). After politely explaining that they are on a Service Scavenger Hunt, they should allow the adult of the household to choose a service item off of the list for the group to complete. Each service option is worth a certain amount of points. The youth should use the Check-Off Sheet to keep track of what they have done. After an allotted amount of time, each group will return to the church building and tally up their service points. The group with the most points wins! Serve Honey Berry Milk shakes for refreshments.

Idea #82: Scripture Star Search Scripture Star Search: A Book of Mormon Hollywood!
Let's face it: few of today's celebrities are famous for righteousness or good works. But the scriptures are full of men and women that exemplify Mosiah 5:15-"Therefore, I would that ye should be steadfast and immovable, always abounding in good works." A "Book of Mormon Hollywood Night" is a fun way for youth to dig these "stars" out of the scriptures. Preparation: Decorate the cultural hall in a Hollywood theme. Hang stars on the wall, place sunglasses on tables for center pieces, and run a "red carpet" along the floor. Materials Needed: Decorations for the cultural hall (Hollywood "Stars" theme) Long strip of red fabric (the red carpet) Assortment of "costume" items in a box Paper, markers, glitter, glue, scissors, tape, etc. A copy of "Scripture Star Search: Group Instruction Sheet" for each group Background music for the "Red Carpet Show" Instructions: Divide the youth into small groups. Give each group a "star" to research in the scriptures. Instruct each group to search the scriptures to discover how their person exemplifies Mosiah 5:15. How was this person steadfast and immovable? What were some of their good works? Give each group a "Scripture Star Search: Instruction Sheet" to fill out about their star. Explain that you are going to have a red carpet show after the groups have finished. Each group should choose one member to "be" the star. Instruct them to have fun dressing this person up for the red carpet. Bring an assortment of costume items-headbands, bows and arrows, swords and shields, fake brass plates, wraps, shawls, sunglasses, feather boas, pieces of scrap fabric, etc. Be sure to also have paper, glue, staplers, markers and glitter on hand. Each group should decorate a Name Star with his or her name on it to be added to the Book of Mormon Hollywood Walk of Fame and write a short, snazzy "Red Carpet Introduction" about their star to be read as he or she walks down the red carpet. You may wish to read an example such as the one below (using a character no group will have, such as a character from the Bible). Sample Red Carpet Introduction: And who do we have here? Could it be? Why, yes! It's Peter! Peter is sporting a classic fisherman look, complete with a net draped around his shoulders and some seaweed hanging from his belt. Peter is best known for his role as one of the original 12 apostles appointed during the mortal ministry of Jesus. His good works included many missions and leading the church after the death of Christ. Peter's loyalty to the Lord was tested many times, and he proved to be a faithful and diligent servant. In fact, the Lord himself gave Peter the name "Cephas," which means, "Rock." Yes, ladies and gentlemen, Peter truly rocks! Let's hear it for Peter!! When each group is done, have everyone sit down to form an audience for the red carpet "show." Choose a particularly vivacious youth to be the "MC." Bring something fancy for him or her to wear-a suit jacket and bow tie for a boy, sparkly jewels and a feather boa for a girl. Or, you may want to choose this person before hand and ask them to bring their own costume. Make sure that the MC has a working microphone to do the announcing. Each group takes turns parading their "star" down the red carpet as the MC read the description written by the group. Play some upbeat (preferably wordless) music in the background as each star parades down the red carpet. After the each star's turn, their group should add the decorated star with his or her name decorated on it (ie: Peter) to the "Book of Mormon Hollywood Walk of Fame" on the floor.

Service Project Ideas


Mosiah 5:15 admonishes us to "be steadfast and immovable, always abounding in good works." It's a perfect year for service projects! Use both the "Someone Needs Your Star" song and video to help teach the youth about our responsibility to serve and the blessings of service. Below are ideas for service projects to do with the youth in 2008.

Idea #83: Service Car/Dog Wash


Spend a Saturday morning washing cars-for free! Or, for a new spin on an old classic, host a free dog wash. The combination of water, soap, bubbles, and service will be a lot of fun. (Be sure to set some guidelines so everyone comes dressed modestly.)

Idea #84: Church Scrub Down


Bring your buckets, gloves, brooms, and scrub brushes! With everyone working together it can be a lot of fun to make the windows sparkle and the floors shine.

Idea #85: Food Drive


Go around your neighborhood in groups of three or four collecting cans for those in need. Then, go together as a group to deliver the cans (if you are going to a shelter) or split up to delver them to individual homes. You could even advertise a few days beforehand by putting flyers on the doors.

Idea #86: Temple/Date Night Babysitting


Provide babysitting at the church for couples who would like to go to the temple or go on a date. Prepare games and activities to do with the children.

Idea #87: Letter Writing Night


Spend an evening writing to the missionaries and those serving in the military from your ward or stake. Let them know how grateful you are for their service and offer words of cheer and encouragement.

Idea #88: Toy Makeovers


Offer to spruce up, clean, and fix the toys in your nursery. Bring new batteries, sanitizing cleaner, paper towels, and glue. Throw away toys that are irreparable and have the youth bring any toys from their homes that are not being used.

Idea #89: Nursing Home Manicures


Ask a cosmetologist to come do a simple manicure workshop. The next week, go to a nursing home to offer your new skills.

Idea #90: Year Round Caroling


Spread some cheer to those who may need it by caroling. No need to wait for Christmas! Carol at Easter, Halloween, Valentines Day, or Thanksgiving.

Idea #91: Bring a Little Friend


Plan an activity where everyone brings a younger sibling or child from the ward. Do something fun-go bowling, go to a batting cage, or throw Frisbees in the park.

Idea #92: Bless the Bishop


Arrange (with his wife!) to come to the bishop's home one evening. Bring dinner and cleaning supplies. Help them with whatever they need to say thank you for the service of the bishop.

Idea #93:Testimony Trees


Using Alma 32, discuss how planting and nourishing a seed is like a growing testimony. One important way to strengthen a testimony is to share it with others. Talk about how sharing our testimony with others is an act of service. Encourage the youth to seek opportunities to plant the seed of faith, nurture their developing testimony by "experimenting on the word," and share their testimonies with others. Play the song, "Someone Needs Your Star." As a service project, plant trees (or flowers) in your community.

Idea #96: Opening Session: Like the Stars


Create a spiritual opening session to get the youth in the spirit of the conference and to explain the theme. Ideas: 1. Sing the conference theme songs (Like the Stars and Steadfast in You) in the opening session. 2. Use some of the ideas below to create your own program put on by the leaders. 3. Create a slide show to go with the song Like the Stars featuring youth from your stake). 3. Book Jenny Phillips to come do your opening session (see booking page on www.jennyphillips.com. Or put on Steadfast & Immovable for your opening session and have Jenny do your closing session right before the testimony meeting. Ideas for Like the Stars Opening Program Using the metaphors of stars, the young men and young women will understand that standards are part of a bigger picture. It would be fun to show a drawing or model to compare the size of the earth, sun, and supergiant stars. Looking up into a clear night sky, we can see billions of stars. To us, the stars look like tiny pinpricks of light, some so faint we can hardly see them. With the limited vision of our eyes, they appear to be very small-but that's only because

we don't see the whole picture. So, just how big is a star? Stars come in many types and sizes. Someone with no knowledge of stars may look up into the sky and believe the stars to be tiny enough to fit in their hand. But those of us who have learned about stars know better. Some stars can be the diameter of 12 miles. While a 12 mile long star seems huge to us, a star that size would actually be considered very small. The closest star to us, the sun, is 100 times larger than the earth. Something that large seems phenomenal, until you consider the size of stars called "supergiants"-these stars can be 1000 times the size of the sun! Knowing just how big stars are gives us a different perspective about those tiny little dots of light in the sky. None of us have ever been to visit a star personally, so we have to take someone else's word for their approximate size. Scientists study about stars and present us the gathered information. We trust that what they say is true, because we trust that their study and research has produced valid facts. Just as stars may appear small to the unlearned, so the gospel may appear unimportant to one who does not trust that there is a bigger picture. With our limited vision of mortality, sometimes the gospel may appear to be restrictive, insignificant, or inconvenient. This may be in part because we can't see the whole picture. Consider one who learns for the first time that stars are astronomically huge objects of burning gas, rather than simple tiny dots of light. Will you be just as surprised as this person, when at the judgment day you learn just how important the gospel was? Or, when you realize that keeping yourself worthy to enter the temple really did matter? Don't wait for that day to learn how significant the gospel was for your life. Instead, trust the Lord's servants. Live the Lord's standards, and enjoy the blessings that will flow to you for being unspotted from the world. Even if something is difficult to understand, or even if it seems to be inconvenient or insignificant, remember that, "ye cannot behold with your natural eyes, for the present time, the design of your God" (D&C 58:3-4). Trust that the Lord had a plan-a big picture-and that His ultimate desire is for you to return home to Him. Pray for the faith and courage to live these standards so that you may become steadfast and immovable and return to Him someday.

Idea #97: Dinner with the Stars


String small white Christmas lights across the cultural hall where you are having dinner so that it looks like stars in the sky. You could hang a moon and star ornaments from the lights. (Search for item #IN-2/712 on www.orientaltrading.com to find great star ornaments for only .50 each. Note their colored star ornaments too). These decorations would be great for the dance too. Try one of the following for dessert. Create a Star Dessert Table Have a Create a Star dessert table set up where the youth can decorate large star shaped frosted sugar cookies. You could provide: --Frosting in decorating tubes --Small candies --Sliced fruit (try kiwis, peaches, strawberries, raspberries, nectarines, star fruit, canned mandarin oranges Milky way Sunday Bar Have a table set up where the youth can create ice cream Sundays featuring Milky Way Candy bars. Give each person a big cup decorated with stars that has 1 or 2 miniature Milky Way candy bars in it. You could get black paper cups (at a party store) and put silver star stickers on the cups. On the top handle of the spoon you could tape a little tag that says When we shine our lights together, we shine stronger than the Milky Way. Or you could make a sign that says that to put on the table. In addition to the Milky Way candy bars, you could have any of the following items for the sunday bar: Ice cream, whip cream, cool whip, marshmallow cream, cherries, bananas, marshmallows, fudge or carmel sauce.

Fasten your seat belt--the gospel is a fun and exhilarating ride! These fun mini-classes are designed to teach the youth that living the gospel is designed to bring us joy and make us shine like the stars. Gather all the youth together for a short opening session: Journey To the Stars. Hold this opening session in the cultural hall. Lock or block all of the doors into the cultural hall except one. Decorate that one door as an entrance to the space shuttle. Hand out Tickets to the Stars as they enter. These tickets will also divide them up for the mini classes. 1. Journey To the Stars


Leader: Welcome to the space shuttle GJC--short for gospel of Jesus Christ. Please fasten your seat belts and prepare yourself for a wild ride. The gospel of Jesus Christ is the only vehicle that is powerful enough to take you to the stars. That is because this shuttle, the GJC, was designed by God, and not only can bring you to the stars, but eventually to where God is. In just one lifetime, the GJC, can arrive at its destination. But no man made shuttle could do that. The distance from our sun to the nearest star is forty trillion kilometers. To walk this distance would take you about one billion years. Even our fastest space probes would take sixty thousand years to travel this distance. Shuttles made by man could never get you to even one star in your lifetime. We commend you for choosing the GJC (gospel of Jesus Christ) as the vehicle for your earthly journey. Though some view the GJC as old-fashioned and boring, the GJC (gospel of Jesus Christ) offers the fastest, most exhilarating speeds known to man as well as the most exciting and joyous experiences man could ever have. There is no comparison between the GJC and all other shuttles made by the world. We commend you for choosing the GJC for your journey to the stars. Please hold on tight and count down with us to take off. We are now leaving the earths atmosphere. Play DVD: You could have a big screen and project images of the earth as seen from a space shuttle as from a movie such as Space Station (IMAX) (2002) (available on amazon.com). You could also just project slides or still images from a powerpoint presentation of images of the earth and space. Have space shuttle flight attendants leaders pass out peanuts and drinks while the video is playing. Play sound effect: Leader: Oh no. Everyone please stay seated. We are being attacked. The spacecraft S-A-T-A-N (spell the letters out) is not happy that we are headed towards the stars. But please stay calm. This is to be expected. It happens every time we are headed towards the stars. With the powers of the S-A-T-A-N spacecraft being as strong and wide spread as they are, there is no way to reach the stars without a battle. The important thing is to stay with the GJC. Its bullet proof, laser proof, and everything you can think of proof. Theres nothing in the universe that can penetrate it, slow it down, or change its course. The only danger is leaving the craft. Leader: Phew. We have passed the enemy. Captain (bishop or young mens president): We have just gone through enemy territory and made it through because of the force that is with us. This force is something that every one of you can have in your life. It is the strongest power you could have and will always be stronger than any enemy you encounter. This force is the holy ghost. As you journey to the stars, it will protect you and help you fight against the evils around you. The captain can continue on this subject in his own words--talking about the power that comes into our lives when we have the holy ghost with us. End with: No matter how small or weak or unimportant we may feel, when we have the Holy Ghost, the force with us, we will be surprisingly strong and mighty. SPACE STATIONS
Idea #100: Space Station #1: Stars Around the World (missionary prep) (Main part of lunch in this class)
Decorate the room with pictures of missionaries and maps of different parts of the world. Cut out stars from construction paper, etc. and decorate the borders of the pictures and maps. Have the adult putting on this mini class start with the following: Mosiah 5:15 admonishes us to abound in good works. One of the greatest works we can focus our lives on is missionary work. What greater service is there than to share the gospel with others? This world, that is so dark and confused, has about 60,000 missionaries shining like stars around the world. Missionaries give light and guidance to others, but serving a mission is also one of the biggest steps to on your personal journey to become like the stars. Do the following activities in this workshop: Activity #1: Ask the missionaries to come and speak to the youth for 5 minutes about preparing for their missions. Ask them also to include information about what it is like to be a missionary, what they love about serving, and how the youth can be missionaries now. If you want, you can open up 5 minutes of time for the youth to ask the missionaries questions. Activity #2: Book of Mormon Testimonies: Have each youth write their testimony inside the front cover and think of one person to give it to. Activity #3: Laundry Game: Divide into teams and see who can fold a basket of laundry the fastest. OR divide into teams and have a laundry basket full of church socks. Time each team as they match the socks, and see which team can match up the socks the fastest. Activity #4: Mac and Cheese Sampler: Sample different ways to spice up an old favorite-mac and cheese! Make a mack and cheese bar with diced chicken, ground beef, cubed ham, chili, salsa, chopped tomatoes, crushed red peppers, hot dogs, and/or crumbled bacon. This would serve as lunch, so you may want to also provide salad and garlic bread.

Idea #101: Space Station #2: Eyes on the North Star (standards)
When you are facing the North Star, you are facing north. Likewise, when you are facing the Savior, you are facing heavenward. All other stars move, but the North Star does not. It is a fixed point that never changes. He never moves. His standards that are never changing help us navigate through life. Keeping standards and standing steadfast and immovable will help navigate you in the right direction. Have the leader discuss the standards outlined in the "For the Strength of Youth" pamphlet. Scripture Idea: 1 Ne 10:18 (He is the same today, yesterday, and tomorrow.) Activity #1: Give each of the youth a bookmark from the following page. Play the song I Will Never Move, and ask them to think about their commitment to the standards while the songs plays. Activity #2: Have a fondue star fruit bar. Tell the youth how sweet their lives will be when they live the gospel. Give each of them a large star shaped cookie. Make a bar with cream cheese frosting and cut up fruit that they can decorate their stars with. Try kiwis, peaches, strawberries, raspberries, nectarines, star fruit, bananas, mango, canned mandarin oranges)

Idea #102: Space Station #3: A Starry Eyed Panel Starry-Eyed Panel
Objective: Leaders in the ward will speak in a panel-like setting about being steadfast and immovable. Give them a chance to write questions that they would like addressed to the panel. Ask 4-5 leaders in the ward to be a part of this panel (consider members of the bishopric, members of the YW/YM Presidencies, Relief Society President, Elders Quorum President, etc.). Questions may include: -What were challenges when you were a teenager? -Share a time when you had to stand up to a peer. -Why did you decide to go on a mission? -What did you do as a teenager to prepare for the temple? -What does the phrase, "steadfast and immovable" mean to you? -What did you love about being a teenager? -What were some things you were involved in as a teenager? -Now that you are an adult, what is one thing you wish you had known as a teenager? -How have "good works" played a role in your life? -How has a mission blessed your life? -How has a temple marriage blessed your life? -What advice do you have for a young man or young woman who is not sure they have a testimony? -Also include appropriate questions written by the youth.

Ask the leaders to prayerfully prepare for the panel presentation. Personal experiences and examples from the scriptures should be included. This should be a fun class for the youth, but also a time to learn from righteous real-life examples of their leaders. Panel Presentation: Sit the panel in a line in front of the youth. Make sure there is a microphone that can be passed if you are not in a small room. Ask the questions to the panel and give all who wish a chance to respond. (Or, to save on time, you may wish to assign a specific panel member to answer a specific question.) Make sure the panel understands that their responses should not exceed a couple of minutes. Allow the youth to present questions that occur to them at

** NOTE: If you would like to include games in your youth conference, you could change 1 or 2 of this panels into games/activities that had to do with the them of stars, space shuttles, the moon, etc. Get creative and let the kids have a lot of fun. Think of using moon walk, starburst, milky way bars, relay races, etc.
