The Stovery - Home of Soothing Fires COURTHOUSE GALLERY- Ginger Ertz had an irrepressible creative urge since she was old enough to hold a crayon, and in the 1980s, with a BA and MLS under her belt, she started taking drawing, painting, and sculpture classes one or two nights a week, first at the University of the Arts, and then at The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, for four years at each school. She moved to Vermont and studied with private art teachers, eventually becoming a painting teacher herself. At this point she was exhibiting work and winning awards, such as the Vermont Studio Center Fellowship Award at the Stratton (VT) Arts Festival, in 1997. She returned to school full-time and obtained an MFA from Johnson (VT) State College and the Vermont Studio Center in 2001. She continues to show work regionally and beyond. Her site-specific Soft Chandelier was selected and installed at the Albany International Airport from 2007-2010. She was recently included in the Artists of the Mohawk-Hudson Region, a juried exhibition at the Hyde Museum, Glens Falls, NY, in fall of 2010, and at MASS Mocas KidSpace exhibition Under The Sea, October 1, 2011 May 30, 2012. Her awards include residencies at the American Academy in Rome, and several residencies at the Vermont Studio Center. In 2009 she received a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship. This exhibition is funded in part by Price Choppers Golub Foundation, The Town of Lake George, and the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency. The Courthouse Gallery hours during exhibitions are Tuesday through Friday 12 - 5 pm, Saturday 12 - 4 pm, and all other times by appointment. The Courthouse Gallery is located at the side entrance of the Old County Courthouse, corner of Canada and Lower Amherst Streets, Lake George, NY. For more information call (518) 668-2616, mail@lakegeorgearts.org , or visit www.lakegeorgearts.org. BATTENKILL TIME TRADERS- What if you could get an hour (or more) of some service you need or want without having to pay cash for it? In exchange youd offer an hour (or more) of something youre good at and like to do. The concept is called time banking, or time trading. For every hour of service given to any member a participant earns one hour, which can be traded for one hour of services from any other member of the time bank. Wide-ranging options for exchange are based on the members skills computer help, rototilling, or keeping an elder company for example. Its not barter on a one-to-one basis. The time trading system values everyones contributions equally. Time trading is a simple idea that has powerful ripple effects in building community connections. For additional information, find us at http:// battenkill.timebanks.org/ or on Facebook at Battenkill Time Traders, or call 518-288-5241. Time banking will continue with a Community Social Soup Swap, on Sunday, February 5 from 24 p.m. at Proudfit Hall at 181 Main Street, Salem NY. Bring a crock pot of your favorite soup to share (and earn an hour for your membership), or just come for an afternoon of getting to know your neighbors, enjoying hot soup, and learning a little bit about time banking and how it can improve your life and your neighborhood. Proudfit Hall is handicapped accessible, and there will be a crafts table for children. Everyone is welcome. BATTENKILL CHORALE SEVENTEENTH ANNIVERSARY SEASON The Battenkill Chorale, Janet McGhee Artistic Director, opens its seventeenth anniversary season with a program of French music on January 28th and 29th, both at 3pm, at St. Josephs Catholic Church, 35 Hill Street, Greenwich, NY. The 100-voice Chorale and professional orchestra will be joined by soloists Susan Hermance Fedak and Keith Kibler in Maurice Durufles Requiem. Also on the program are motets by Francis Poulenc, Gabriel Faure, and Olivier Messaien. In conjunction with this concert, acclaimed artist and Battenkill Chorale soprano Annie McNeice will have her work for sale beginning one half hour before each concert, continuing during intermission and after each concert. Tickets for this concert are $15 and can be reserved by calling (518) 692-8093 or emailing judith.kleinberg@yahoo.com. Due to circumstances beyond our control, St. Josephs Catholic Church is not handicap accessible in winter. The Battenkill Chorale recently returned from a thrilling choral tour of Austria and the Czech Republic. In addition to sold out concerts in Vienna and Prague, the Chorale was given special access to historical sites in the former Terezin concentration camp, where they sang in honor of the thousands who lived and perished there. Plans are underway for a 2014 choral tour to Estonia, Finland, and St. Petersburg, Russia. Mezzo soprano Susan Hermance Fedak has appeared with the Berkshire Lyric Theatre, the Glens Falls Symphony, and the Lake George Opera Company, and been soloist with many of the Capital Districts choral ensembles. A resident of Albany, Ms. Fedak is Associate Minister of Music and Arts at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Director of the Saratoga Childrens Chorus, and newly appointed Conductor of the Burnt Hills Oratorio Society for the 2012-13 season. Bass-baritone Keith Kibler made his national debuts at the age of twenty-four with the Opera Theatre of St. Louis and the Boston Symphony under Seiji Ozawa. He has sung leading opera roles and appeared in concert internationally with artists including Jon Humphrey and Elly Ameling. Twice a Fellow of the Tanglewood Music Center, Keith Kiblers doctorate was earned at Yale University and the Eastman School of Music. Dr. Kibler teaches in the music department of Williams College and also lectures frequently at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.

ALWAYS THINK POSITIVELY. On a flight getting ready to Depart for Detroit, Jack was sitting on the plane when a guy took the seat beside him. The guy was an emotional wreck, pale, hands shaking, moaning in fear. Whats the matter? Jack asked. Ive been transferred to Detroit , theres crazy people there. Theyve got lots of shootings, gangs, race riots, drugs, poor public schools, and the highest crime rate in the nation.. Jack replied, Ive lived in Detroit all my life. Its not as bad as the media says. Find a nice home, go to work, mind your own business, enroll your kids in a nice private school. Its as safe a place as anywhere in the world. The guy relaxed and stopped shaking and said, Oh, thank you. Ive been worried to death. But if you live there and say its OK, Ill take your word for it. What do you do for a living? Im a tail gunner on a Budweiser truck. SOUPER SUPPER FEBRUARY 12. FOLLOWING THEIR FOOTSTEPS: The Knox Trail Honor Walk During the winter of 17751776, Colonel Henry Knox left Boston, marched to New Yorks Fort Ticonderoga, andwith a team of men and oxenhauled more than 50 tons of cannons and other arms back to Bostons Dorchester Heights. The threat of these cannons firing on British ships in Boston Harbor led to the British evacuation of Boston, a major victory for the fledging Continental Army. In 1926, New York and Massachusetts began installing commemorative markers that traced the so-called Knox Trail at locations in the two states. In April of 2012, staff members of Patriots of the American Revolution Magazine will walk the Knox Trail. The mission: to honor Henry Knox and his noble train of artillery, to raise awareness of and promote the Knox Trail as a unique American historical route, and to help the American Revolution Association raise needed money for history-based museums and parks with connections to Henry Knox and the Knox Trail. Starting from Fort Ticonderoga on Friday, April 6, 2012, Patriots of the American Revolution Managing Editor Benjamin Smith and Copyeditor Alex Culpepper will march south along Lake George and the Hudson River to Kinderhook, New York, where they will veer east into Massachusetts, aiming to reach Dorchester Heights in Boston National Historical Park on Wednesday, April 18. Along the way they will take photographs of the various markers along the Knox Trail and document their trip for in-depth articles about the Trail that will run in future issues of Patriots of the American Revolution magazine. Donations received by corporations and private individuals will be collected by the American Revolution Association and distributed directly and equally to the following four museums and parks: Fort Ticonderoga (www.fortticonderoga.org) New York State Military Museum (http://cts.vresp.com/c/?FriendsoftheNewYorkS/ 71393a5f47/89c3e18a2f/6c4e277454 Boston National Historical Park (www.nps.gov/bost/index.htm) Montpelier, The General Henry Knox Museum (www.generalknoxmuseum.org) Patriots of the American Revolution and the American Revolution Association will keep none of the donations.
