Trend A total of 28,488 dengue cases were admitted to different sentinel hospitals nationwide from January 1 to August 30, 2008. This is 6.3 % lower compared to same time period last year (30,406) (Table 1). Cases had exceeded and reached epidemic threshold on the 1st to 24th week and the alert threshold on the 25 th to 27th week. (Figure 2). Geographic Distribution The regions with the highest number of cases were: NCR (30.3%), III (13.1%), VII (9.3%), IVA (8.1%), XI (6.2%), and VI (5.8%). Cluster of cases were noted in the following areas

Profile of Cases Ages of cases ranged from <1 month to 89 years old (median 12 years). Majority of cases were male (52%). Seventy six percent of the cases belonged to the 1 to 20 years age group (Fig. 4). The age group with case fatality ratio greater than 1 is age group <1 years and 1-10 years (Fig. 5). There were 280 deaths (CFR 1%). The regions with CFR greater than 1% were Region I, V, VII, VIII, ARMM and CARAGA (Table 1).
