Flick Fishing Megaguide

Welcome to the Island. Its interesting what you can do with a shing obsessed billionaire, a small island somewhere remote but warm and a lot of sh. When the Islands owner decided to retire from running his business empire and put some serious time into his hobbies a very remote and insignicant island found itself having a bit of a makeover. Gaining a lot more size, some very clever landscaping and apparently most of the inhabitants of a remote Massachusetts shing village that had previously fallen on hard times and needed a bit of a holiday. Over a remarkably short time, the island was transformed into a private shing paradise with freshwater lakes and rivers stocked with sh from around the world and special underwater environments and habitats being created off shore to attract a variety of saltwater sh. These environments have been so successful that many of the sh found there are of unusual size or even far from their normal grounds.

The owner then invited his many friends to join him on this unique shing preserve and set up clubs for each of the environments so that they could challenge each other in tournaments and catch as many sh as they wanted (always returning them to the water after imaging them with some very cool 3D cameras of course). A big virtual aquarium was set up on the island although its current curator has an annoying habit of unplugging the storage servers to plug in his slot car set, so new shing enthusiasts may nd themselves temporarily employed in catching and recording new virtual sh to restock it from time to time. Oddly, in all the time the island has been in its current form, nobody has got around to naming it. Given the owners preference for anonymity though, its quite likely hed rather it just remain that way. Not on any maps and only accessible via a seaplane shuttle service that takes a very odd route to get there.

As not all of the invited guests are shing experts (and some of the ones that are can be bemused by the habits of some of the sh

here ;) ), some of the islands villagers have put together this guidebook to help out.

How To Fish: This seems a bit of an obvious place to start, but its best to be comprehensive! If you think youve got the basic grasp of the gameplay, please feel free to skip this bit... To catch a sh in Flick Fishing you rst need to cast the line. If you are using the optional setting of the on-screen Cast button you simply hold your nger down on the cast button and watch as the power bar goes up and down. Release the button when the power bar is at the distance you want to cast. This will usually take some practice! If you have set the game to the default, ick casting, you need to hold your iPhone securely and ick it forwards in a smooth casting motion from the shoulder to about arms length. For best results, this should be a smooth and owing motion rather than a rapid ick. Apart from being more effective and casting the line further, there is less chance of your iPhone going ying across the room.

If you select Go Fishing from the main menu and tap on the Old Pond location in the woods at the north of the island (below the lake), youll be in the ideal place to practice casting. Simply cast and then wait for a sh to bite. As this is a bit of a shing paradise, youll always get something biting, even if its a tiddler. So for the moment dont worry about what youre going to catch. Once something bites, wind the reel clockwise to reel the line in and capture the sh. Youll notice 2 meters at the top of the screen, the Line Tension and Fish Strength meters. These are important as they warn you when your line is about to snap and let you know when the sh is tiring and becoming easier to reel in. The sh in the Old Pond are all relatively small and/or lazy (theres at least one monster sh there that likes to sleep for weeks!) so they wont put up enough ght to snap the super strength shing line used there. This makes it a great spot to practice casting and reeling without worrying about breaking the line. Simply land your sh, take a snapshot and return it to the water and you can try another cast.

Hopefully with a bit of practice you should be able to cast to 30ft or thereabouts most of the time. If you change location to Shiny Lake youll come across larger sh there to practise using the reel and battling sh. Theres also a slightly different shing rig with lures and spinners that require a different method of casting. So rst well have a quick look at the Tackle Box. The Tackle Box is opened by tapping the thin tab at the bottom right of the screen (the one that has Tackle Box written on it ;) ). In each area you have a choice of 4 different types of bait and tackle. Tap the one you want to use and the box will close. If you select the Spinner or the Lure, these work slightly differently from most of the other tackle. Firstly they dont have a oat to show you where the line is in the water and hold the hook up. Secondly you have to reel them in slowly to move them through the water. This fools some of the sh into thinking theyre interestingly edible things and theyll take a bite.

With the other types of tackle you just need to watch the oat for when the sh bites. When a sh bites, the Line Tension and Fish Strength meters will appear on screen. Watching the Line Tension meter carefully, reel in. The speed you reel in will directly effect the line tension as will the size and strength of the sh and whether or not its ghting. The Fish Strength bar will jiggle when the sh is ghting you. At this point you may have to reel slower or even let go of the reel and let the line run out to avoid it snapping. As you battle with the sh you should be able to wear it down a bit and eventually reel it in to the boat or shore. Note that the Fish Strength meter wont go entirely to zero and sometimes the sh will drum up a new reserve of strength and try and get away. Its only when the line length reaches zero that you can land the sh. For most of the smaller sh or in the easier shing spots, youll not have to ght them for too long. In the tougher zones though the larger and feistier sh will be hard work and some of the monsters of the deep will be a long battle!

Choosing bait: The various sh around the island arent too picky, but each of them has a favourite type of bait thats most likely to attract one. If you have the wrong type of bait, youll still hook a few different sh of the type youre trying to catch, but theyll tend to be smaller than the usual specimens. Sometimes, having the wrong bait can be useful. For instance if you need to catch a treasure chest or seaweed for the Old Man In The Lighthouses quest (or if you just want some to decorate your aquarium) then having a bait that few sh like means youve got a little more chance of hooking some junk instead of a hungry sh. Most of the sh also have a second favourite bait. This will still attract them, but they wont be quite as big. See the big list of sh listed below for the type of bait to use for each sh.

Apart from the sh on this list it appears that some of the sh around the island have settled in and grown to enormous sizes. They are a lot more cunning and less inclined to take the bait than the average sh, so theyll rarely be hooked. If you do hook one though, be prepared to put up a ght (except for Old Mog, shes a complete softy ). These named sh dont count for online leaderboard scores or FishNet matches because of their uniqueness. They do count for scoring in normal tournaments though! As catching one of these monsters is a nice surprise, weve not listed them here, but put them in a list at the end of this booklet in case you want to maintain the surprise :)

Gizmos: if you have purchased the Fishing Pro Pack from the Village Shop, your tackle box will now include Gizmos that you can use to help catch bigger sh. You can only have one Gizmo selected at any one time and youll need to unlock some of them by winning at the Fish Race game against the Old Man in the Lighthouse. Each Gizmo has a specic effect: Power Reel: Motorises your winder to aid in reeling in sh. If you hold your nger on the power reel button it adds next to the reel, the reel will automatically wind in at a set speed, reducing in speed as the line tension rises too far. You can still snap the line with the Power Reel though, so be ready to let go of the button if the line tension gets too high and press again (or switch to the manual reel) as it lowers. Weight Gauge: This gives you a rough guess at the relative weight of the sh youve currently got hooked by showing a small pointer around the top of the reel.

If its a tiddler, the pointer will be at around the 10 oclock position and a monster sh will push it nearer to 2 oclock. Cast Boost: Who said reworks and shing dont mix? Add a Cast Boost rocket to your line and it will make your casts go up to 5% further. Tasty Bait: After the Islands rst birthday last year we found out that the local sh really like cake. Apart from adding it to the diet of the sh in the eXtreme shing zones, you can also add extra cake with the Tasty Bait gizmo! Auto Slip: If you nd yourself reeling a bit too fast and snapping lines a lot, the Auto Slip gizmo is the one for you. Once selected it will automatically de-clutch the winder as the line tension hits 95% and only re-engage it after a second. This gives the line a chance to slack off and usually avoids it snapping. Its not foolproof though, so if you reel like crazy on a huge sh you can still break the line and if youre constantly triggering it you could end up with the line running too far out!

Fishing Locations: There are currently 8 shing spots on the island and 8 eXtreme shing spots. Six of the shing locations are available initially. These are: Old Pond. A very calm and easy place to sh (great for the kids). While there are only a few types of sh here, theyre very easy to catch as the Old Pond Tiddlers club allows quite heavy lines to be used and it makes a great practice area. There have been rumours of some odd goings on here though. Lake Shiny. The lake is well stocked with all sorts of freshwater sh. While the Lake Shiny Showboaters dont allow such strong line to be used as at the Old Pond, its still fairly heavy so only prone to snapping on the absolutely largest or strongest sh. By The River. Most of the sh that stock Lake Shiny will be found in the river at some point, however the Pike do tend to prefer the centre of the river to the lake. The Riverside Rodders club prefers that shing on the river is done with fairly light lines, so it tends to be more challenging to catch larger sh here.

Breakwater. Run by the Breakwater Bobbers club, this harbour front location has a variety of sh that prefer the shallower water. While they are generally smaller than the offshore sh, the Breakwater Bobbers insistence that everyone uses very light lines makes catching them very difcult. Blue Deeps. If you take a boat trip out to the Blue Deeps youll have a chance to catch a variety of deepwater sh including Blue Marlin and Sailsh. Fortunately the Blue Deeps Divers club allows pretty strong lines to be used, but the size and power of the larger sh still make them a strong challenge. Waves of Doom. Run by some of the original villagers brought to run the island, the Wavers of Doom club only goes shing when the sea is at its roughest, so shing with them isnt for those prone to seasickness. This is the only location where youll be able to try and catch Swordsh and youll nd a variety of larger sh here. If you play through the Old Guy In the Lighthouses quest, you will soon unlock the night shing location.

Shiny Nights. The Water Ninjas club is for those of a more nocturnal disposition or people that just really like using glowsticks! Set in a slightly different spot on Lake Shiny, this shing location is the only place to catch Brown Trout as well as a great place to catch Bream. Purchasing the Private Beach pack from the village shop will unlock the Private Beach for your shing Pleasure. Private Beach. An exclusive location run by the Posh Paddlers club, the Private Beach allows you to lounge in the sun on an offshore raft while shing for Grouper, Striped Bass, Barracuda or Mahi Mahi. Members of the Posh Paddlers club are also fond of playing the unique Fish Jack game! Each shing location also has a special, alternate, spot in whats called eXtreme mode. Once you unlock eXtreme mode for a location, you can sh there with more of a challenge with larger, stronger, sh and more skill required to land them.

Tournaments: While shing on your own is fun and quite relaxing, theres nothing like challenging the computer or a friend to a bit of a competition! Fortunately each of the shing clubs runs a variety of tournaments to keep you on your toes. Winning tournaments against the CPU player also unlocks eXtreme mode for that location. When you select the Tournament option from the main menu, you can pick from 3 types of play. Vs Human. Play against a friend taking it in turns to sh on the same device. Each of you plays for 3, 5 or 10 minutes Vs CPU. Play against a computer player. This game mode is used to unlock the eXtreme mode areas and is used for the quest challenges. Vs Bluetooth. Play against a friend running Flick Fishing on another iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch (unfortunately 1st generation iPhones and iPod Touches are not supported by this mode).

Once the play mode has been selected, you can pick the type of tournament you want to play. These are: Big Catch: The weight of all the sh you catch is totalled up. The player with the biggest total wins. Big Fish: Only your largest sh will count in this mode. Whoever catches the biggest sh wins. If you have purchased the Private Beach pack, you get the chance to play a new type of tournament against the CPU or a Bluetooth player. Fish Jack: At the start of the match the game sets a target weight. Players have to catch sh to get as close as possible in total to the target weight without going over it. If your total goes over the weight, you bust and your opponent wins. Its sort of like Blackjack/21 but with sh! If you have bought the Fishing Pro Pack, the Fish Race mode is unlocked to play against the Old Man in the Lighthouse.

Fish Race: The Old Man in the Lighthouse will pick 6 sh at random. You then have to try and catch those sh from whatever locations you want before he does. He will continue shing until one of you wins, even if youre wasting time in the menus! If you can win a Fish Race, new Gizmos are unlocked at 1,5 and 10 wins.

Fish Net Tournaments: Fish Nets allow you to play against as many players as you want over the internet in a very informal game with no time limits (unless you agree between yourselves to a time limit). When you are in a Fish Net, any sh you catch is automatically compared online to the largest sh currently caught by players in that tournament. This includes sh you catch while in Go Fishing or Tournament modes in the game as the Fish Net is run as a separate competition in the background. The current leader of the Fish Net you are in is posted at intervals on the main menu or while you are shing. The aim is simply to get the largest sh on your Fish Net. To create a Fish Net, select New Game -> Fish Net -> Create Fish Net. This will create a new Fish Net session and give you a 5 letter code. Note this code down as it is the unique code that you can give to your friends to let them join this Fish Net game. If you are given a 5 letter Fish Net code by a friend, select New Game -> Fish Net -> Join

Fish Net and enter the code. This will connect you to your friends Fish Net game. Note you can only be playing in one Fish Net at any one time, but you can switch between them by entering the different codes into Join Fish Net as you want. There is no time limit or end to a Fish Net game or any limits on what sh you can catch, so typically you agree with your friends what time and date youll count the winner. Note: You can also create a URL that iPhone users can click on to automatically launch Flick Fishing and join your Fish Net. Simply put a link in the format icksh://FPxxxxx on your website or forum where xxxxx is the 5 letter code for your Fish Net (all uppercase). When you click on this link in Safari on your iPhone it will automatically launch Flick Fishing and join your Fish Net.

Quests: Recently the Old Guy In The Lighthouse has taken over the running of the islands virtual aquarium and has found himself in need of some sh to stock it. By helping him catch different sh you can earn yourself a couple of useful items and unlock the Shiny Night area for some night shing! To start the OGITLH quest, select Go Fishing and in normal mode, tap on the yellow exclamation mark near the village. The OGITLH quest is pretty straightforwards, if a little challenging sometimes. He will ask you for specic sh, sometimes with a target weight, and you try and catch them. There are a few other challenges too. You may need to nd him a treasure chest or some seaweed to decorate the aquarium or even win a trophy or two to attract customers. The quest items are as follows: Catch 2 Roach. The Old Pond is the easiest place for these using maggots.

Catch 2 Catsh. Again at the Old Pond, Bait Fish for best results. Find a Treasure Chest. Cast really short using worms at the Old Pond. Reel in as soon as you get a bite, repeat until you get a treasure chest :) Catch 2 Carp. Lake Shiny is best for these, using Luncheon Meat as bait (yes, Carp really do like Luncheon Meat!) Win the Big Catch tournament at the Old Pond. This one is relatively easy. Select Tournament, Vs CPU, Big Catch and make sure that the eXtreme button on the map is off (the locations shouldnt be showing the eXtreme logo). If you use Bait Fish, you should be able to catch quite a few large catsh and easily beat the computer player. Note. If you have already won any of the trophies the OGITLH asks for, simply go to the Photo Album and scroll to that trophy to loan it to the aquarium and complete that part of the quest. Catch 2 Pike. The Riverside is the best place for Pike. Use Bait Fish and cast to around 70ft.

Catch 2 Dogsh. Fish at the Breakwater or Private Beach, cast about mid distance using Sand Eels. This will unlock the Shiny Nights location so you can go night shing on Lake Shiny! Catch 2 Plaice. Again, sh at the Breakwater or Private Beach. This time using Ragworm. Plaice tend to be near the shore, so cast short. Catch 2 Rainbow Trout. Lake Shiny for these, using a spinner. Catch 2 Flounder. As with the Plaice, Breakwater or Private Beach with Ragworm. Catch 2, 8lb, Bream. These Bream will need to be 8lbs or over, so use Luncheon Meat at Lake Shiny (or Shiny Nights) for best results. Win the Riverside Big Fish Tournament. This tournament is fairly tricky. You can try and go for broke and land a big Pike by casting to around 70-80ft with Bait Fish (remember the match doesnt end until you have landed whatever sh you have on the line when the timer runs out, so

dont rush to land a big sh) or just go for a large Carp with Luncheon Meat and hope the computer player doesnt land anything too big. This unlocks the OGITLH Patent Line Oil which automatically adds 10% to the strength of your lines, making it a little easier to land larger sh. (this is automatically applied to your line whenever you sh) Catch a 160lb Yellown Tuna. Tuna are relatively easy to catch in the Blue Deeps with Bait Fish if you cast to medium distance (around 180ft). If you have unlocked the eXtreme version of the Blue Deeps by winning any tournament there the sh will be larger so it will be easier to catch the target weight. Catch 3 Largemouth Bass. Back to Lake Shiny or the Riverside for these. Theyll go for the Lure normally. Catch 2 Bonito. Fish in the Blue Deeps with Bait Fish relatively close to the boat. Catch 2, 32lb, Brown Trout. For some reason the Brown Trout on the island are currently nocturnal (we think their sleep pattern got

messed with in the transfer to the island) so the best place to catch them is the Shiny Night spot using the spinner. Again, unlocking the eXtreme version of this area and shing there makes it easier to catch the target weight. Fish up some seaweed. Where do you nd seaweed? The sea of course. Easiest place to drag up some seaweed is the Breakwater. Cast short and repeat the same as with treasure chests. Catch 2, 200lb, Sailsh. These will be quite a challenge so its best to unlock the eXtreme version of Blue Deeps and try there. Cast as far as possible using Squid for bait. Catch 4 Mullet. Youll nd these at the Breakwater or Private Beach again, with Ragworm. A little further out than the Plaice and Flounder. Catch 2, 500lb, Blue Marlin. While 500lb isnt too big for a Blue Marlin near the island, its still a fairly hard size to catch. If you use the Sea Lure and cast to 210ft in the Blue Deeps (preferably in eXtreme mode) you should be able to catch them eventually.

Catch 2 Red Snapper. These are fairly tough sh to land and only found off the Breakwater. They like Bait Fish though. Catch 2, 180lb, Wahoo. Wahoo are found at Blue Deeps, Waves of Doom or the Private Beach by casting to mid distance (around 180ft) with Bait Fish. Catch 2, 600lb, Swordsh. These are only found at the Waves of Doom by casting to maximum distance with Squid. Theyll put up a big ght though! Catch a Sea Bass. This cute little fellow is found off the Breakwater, Blue Deeps or Waves of Doom and will go for Bait Fish. Win the Waves of Doom Big Fish eXtreme tournament. Ok, this one is a tough one. Firstly of course you have to unlock Waves of Doom in eXtreme mode by winning a tournament there in normal mode (Big Catch is easiest). Then enter the Waves Of Doom Big Fish tournament in eXtreme mode (vs CPU of course) and use Squid as bait to try for a big Swordsh. Itll no

doubt take you a few tries to beat the computer player. Once you win this the OGITLH quest is done and he will award you with the Golden Lure charm. The Golden Lure increases the chance of larger sh and even the various named sh taking a bite.

Plus+ Recently, Flick Fishing has joined the Plus+ network and gained a whole bunch of extra features. Once you have a (free!) Plus+ account you can unlock awards in the game, compare your scores on global leaderboards and even keep your game safely backed up online so you can play on a different iPhone with your current catches. Access the Plus+ system via the button at the top right of the main menu. Once you have created an account or logged into your existing Plus+ account any sh you catch will be scored on the global Flick Fishing leaderboards. There are many awards in Flick Fishing, primarily for catching each type of sh and catching large specimens of them. Catching the named sh will score awards worth a lot more points as will completing the Old Guy In The Lighthouses quest. When you are logged into Plus+, your game is stored on your online Plus+ account. So whatever happens to your iPhone, your Flick Fishing game data is safe. It also means that

you can login on another iPhone and continue your game there. When you logout it returns to whatever local game was saved there.

Secret Stuff! If youd rather work out the surprises on the island or come across them for yourself, you might want to skip this section as it contains some spoilers about the various giant named sh you can catch, as well as some very strange ducks! Some Very Large Fish: The well designed habitats and regular care and attention means that most of the sh around the island are of a fairly large size. However some of the craftier sh have been growing a bit bigger than the rest and have learned to spot the difference between free food and food that comes with a string attached. These sh arent caught all that often and the islands anglers have started giving them names to go with their personalities. Each shing spot on the island has at least one of these named sh and some areas have two. Because of their size, strength and cunning most of them are very difcult to even hook, let alone land so expect them to list in your One that got away stories for a while!

The Named Fish: Old Mog: While being a huge and cunning old catsh, Old Mog is mostly hard to catch from being too lazy to swim up from the bottom of the Old Pond to take a nibble of bait most of the time. Once hooked, Old Mog is a fairly easy catch. Tiddles: While a younger and smaller sh than Old Mog, Tiddles has obviously been learning tricks from his pond mate. Unlike most Bream, Tiddles prefers Maggots over Luncheon Meat but is still a fairly easy catch once hooked. Fat Bob: When Lake Shiny was rst stocked the anglers were wondering where all the food and in fact some of the sh had gone. It turned out that a certain Largemouth Bass was demonstrating just how large his mouth was and growing a tummy to match. Fat Bobs just as likely to be sneaking up behind some unsuspecting angler and pinching his sandwiches off the side of his boat than nibbling on bait, but can be caught with a bit of patience and a Lure.

Wiggler: Not the largest sh in Lake Shiny by a long way, but denitely the largest Roach seen anywhere, Wiggler actually had some of the shermen thinking he might be an entirely new species until they realised he was just *really* big. Gums: When the angler next to you wakes up with a start and desperately tries to stop his line zooming off the reel into the depths of the river thats usually a sign that Gums the giant Pike is about. That or when you hear a loud quack and there appears to be on less duck on the river than there was previously. With the light lines that the Riverside Rodders club limits its anglers to and Gums weight and power, hes rather hard to land and if you do manage to, dont let his lack of teeth fool you, hell still give you a nasty bite! George: A very placid and quiet Rainbow Trout normally, George can sometimes be seen wandering up and down the river sneakily taking the bait off anglers hooks without them even realising its gone. Once you hook him though, George is quite a battler and will take a lot of skill to capture.

Big Red: A very large sh for the Breakwater, Big Red has caused the Breakwater Bobbers club a lot of problems as their policy of using extremely light lines means catching Big Red has been described as like trying to winch a pickup truck with cotton thread. This huge Red Snapper has been caught by several talented anglers though. Hoff: The worlds biggest Mullet. Fortunately not quite as large as Big Red, but with the light lines on the Breakwater, Hoff is still quite a challenge. Hank Marlin: First caught by a visiting musician on a shing trip to the Blue Deeps, Hank Marlin has grown to gigantic size. Fishermen will have to cast to maximum range with the Sea Lure to have even a chance of catching him. Smiling Inigo: This huge swordsh is only seen in extremely stormy weather. The Old Guy In The Lighthouse claims Inigo grins at him and is wandering the sea searching for an eleven ngered sherman that caught his father. Carpo Marx: If you sh on Lake Shiny at night you might have a chance of hooking this elusive

giant Carp, named for an unusual black mark across the top of his mouth that looks like a moustache. Bazzacuda: A recent incumbent to the Private Beach area, Bazzacuda appears to be a more energetic young Barracuda. Its thought that while hes not as big as some of the Barracuda have been measured, theres a probability that hell grow quite a bit and his ferociousness makes him a tricky catch.

Tuned Ducks! It turns out that somebody has been sneaking down to the Old Pond at night and training the ducks! To play with these tuned ducks, rst you have to go to the game options and make sure that tutorial mode is switched to OFF. Then select Go Fishing. On the map, double tap the lighthouse above the harbour. Youll see the beam switch on and start to swing around. When it crosses over the woods near the Old Pond a duck icon will momentarily appear. Tap on this duck before it fades and youll go to a very special version of the Old Pond.

Once the nine ducks have lined up you can tap on them to play them like a musical instrument The 9th duck in the centre changes the sounds the ducks make. Theres more though. It appears that the last note you play has an effect on your shing rod when you next sh in eXtreme mode. Somehow tapping the ducks changes the colour of the rod and even stranger, this actually seems to have an effect on either your skills or how the sh are biting. From left to right, here is the effect. Duck: 1) Normal black shing rod. No other effect 2) Red Fishing rod, slightly stronger sh 3) Blue Fishing rod, slightly stronger sh 4) Green Fishing rod, slighty stronger sh 5) Black/Gold striped rod. 10% longer casts (up to maximum cast) 6) Red/White striped rod. 10% chance of hooking a larger sh 7) Blue/White striped rod. All sh are 5% larger 8) Green/White striped rod. Fish bite 10% faster. (great for tournaments)

Advanced Stuff As you might have noticed when using a Fish Net link to launch Flick Fishing, the game can be launched via a URL. What most people dont realise is how many extra options can be enabled with the URL launch. For instance, you can set up a URL to join a Fish Net like this icksh://FPxxxxx but you can also set a Fish Net to only count a specic sh by adding a 2 digit code to the end. e.g icksh://FPxxxxx00 To create this, start a new Fish Net as normal and note down the code, then decide which sh you want to count in your match from the following list..

00 - Catsh! 02 - Rainbow Trout ! 04 - Pike!

01 -Roach 03 - Largemouth Bass 05 - Carp

06 - Dogsh! 08 - Mullet ! 10 - Plaice! 12 - Sailsh! 14 - Tuna! 16 - Swordsh! 29 - Bream! 33 - Grouper! 35 - Barracuda!
